From: Cristiano Midnight Everyone has a valid voice - even a critical one, no matter what their "contributions" to Sl. You don't have to measure up to some bar of philantropy to be worthwhile in SL, or be able to post your thoughts. We all contribute to the community - we are the community. Thanks Cris. Let's leave this thread at this positive note.

From: Siggy Romulus MASS SUFFERAGE!!! kk. I am a nOOb, but I know enough to value your 'ass-etts.' But do you have to bring voting rights into this? (Or, are you saying that everyone should vote? In that case, I support your ass. Otherwise, your ass is on its own.)

From: Merwan Marker So Seth are you asking to be outed? Outed? Interesting choice of words. As whom or what? "Out" away if you like. As far as I know, I've never spoken with kkM, and yet she believes that "more than most" I understand the value of anonymity and discretion. Backhanded rhetoric, or a mistaken idea? Clarify.

From: Seth Kanahoe Please tell everyone on these forums exactly what you mean when you say that I understand "the value of discretion and anonymity...more than most". I want to make sure no one mistakes your meaning, myself included. I am too disinterested to take that bait...really. You understood my point and if you want to enlighten others, then go for it. From: Seth Kanahoe As I said, in most cases such discussions aren't worth much, and the better part of discretion is to leave it alone or deal with it privately. Of that, I am "certain". Actually I agree. However, it is disingenuous for anyone who reads these forums to deny the pervasive cynicism of some who post regularly. The problem seems more overt at times, however we all have seen the forum feeding frenzy in action. I think its offensive for members to criticize the efforts of other members who bring positive content to SL when the crtitics may bring nothing more than their attacks or noxious gases. Yeah, it pisses me off. Is that divisive? Maybe, but I think its time to speak up about this even though it means having mud slung at me by the mud slingers. That part is not as important as addressing the unsolicited nastiness (emphasis on unsolicited.)

From: Enabran Templar I know you enjoy disagreeing with me, Cocoanut, but I fail to see where I said what you're suggesting. I never said we all need to drop everything and help newbies. I only said that someone who would refuse to help a newbie is a dick and anyone who would render help when asked is decent. My point is that helping a newbie isn't selfless -- it's acceptance of your responsibility to be a good citizen. On what scale you practice it is up to you. Unless you disagree with me that it would be improper to brush off a newbie who asked you, Cocoanut, how to tweak one's graphics settings to something more usable? As for people who help newbies "as their thing," that's a pretty damn fun thing to do. Blowing someone's mind is really rewarding and it's great to see someone fresh off the boat inspired to go create great wonders. Infinitely rewarding, not at all selfless, though an awesome contribution to the community. Where's the disagreement again? Probably isn't much of a disagreement. I was just thinking that the newbie helpers are a breed of their own, with a skill set not easily emulated by just everybody, and content providers as well, in that they help provide the PEOPLE content we need, lol. Maybe you think of it as a pretty fun thing to do because you ARE one of those people for whom it is their thing, and maybe just don't recognize that it makes you rather special, and different from what the average player might do. coco

From: Enabran Templar Anyone who can beat an accomplishment like Snapzilla want to step up and refute Cristiano's last post? Any takers? Me, me!!! ... of course. I don't think the thread was INTENDED to be a celebration of achievements. I think it was intended to be a gripe. I read it as a gripe thread, and responded to it in the same vein. coco P.S. No, nobody should ever be coerced into naming names. It not only isn't necessary in order to discuss the perceived problem at hand, it's an invitation to break the TOS and be disciplined for doing so. P.S. Sorry, I didn't see the part about "beat an achievement like Cristiano's." Oh well, you got my opinion anyway, lol.

From: Cocoanut Koala Me, me!!! ... of course. I don't think the thread was INTENDED to be a celebration of achievements. I think it was intended to be a gripe. Actually it was INTENDED to be both, a gripe and an acknowledgement of contributions. Your point is interesting because it illustrates how many focused on one aspect or the other, but not both! I never denied or hid my gripe, in fact I detailed it several times. But I offer my gripe in the context of why not praise those who do contribute so much to make SL great, rather than criticize them for the hell of it, or out of jealousy. I still cant understand anyone's complaint with that premise.

I don't contribute shit. Because I don't need to. Because I pay to play, just like lots of other games. I don't owe anyone fucking anything, including being part of your so called community.
And as an added bonus, what I paid covers the cost of me bitching in the forums for life. yay!

Rubber dog shit - a generic term for anything I make - usually for other ppl - usually scripted - before being named properly.
hence you will oft hear of my being chained to the lab making 'rubber dog shit'

You understood my point and if you want to enlighten others, then go for it. heh, you can't have it both ways - you were interested enough to give a deflecting, disingenuous reply to a valid point. So who was baiting who and who responded with a "go for it" first? Actually, I'm not sure to which of the a half dozen people I'm supposed to be an alt of you were referring to. I'd guess either one of two perennial favorites, or a new suggestion that I've found really bizarre and funny. *shrugs. Brinkmanship and empty threats of "outing" are not substitutes for a good argument.

From: Jeska Linden Please refrain from personally attacking those you don't agree with in the forums. If you have a personal disagreement with someone, please consider taking it to a more appropriate medium, including in-world chat, private messages, or forum IM. Where do you come off so high and mighty, dictating to people what they should and should not say as if you owned these forums?

I don't see why you can't understand complaints about the premise. By your definition, it is fine for me, or you, or anyone else who has vaguely contributed to SL society to criticize someone, but if you haven't donated x amount of time/money, then shut up. Your gripe states very clearly that those who do not contribute do not have a right to complain - so those who contribute do? Would you have been any less upset if an established player who fits your contribution criteria ripped some project to shreds that you liked? I agree that there are some people in these forums who like to simply tear things down - though I don't see it nearly as much as I used to. Do I see negative comments? Certainly. Is the criticism warranted? That is in the eye of the beholder. I have just as much of a problem with the attitude your post conveys as I do with unwarranted criticism.
