What have you added to SL?

I contribute NOTHING! I take and I take and I take, and then I lay upon a pile of freebies, kicking wildly as I cackle with a manic glee!

I plan to make a fort of L$1 freebie packs, and mock people from inside, offering only my scorn and the upturn of a freckled nose!

I think the people who come to SL to have fun have not only been left behind - and are being left behind more as the more sticks are introduced in place of carrots - they are also roundly looked down UPON.

Can't even call it a game or even say "ingame" without having someone come down on you and try to police what words you are going to use . . .

. . . no more funding for events, and big-Sim fun things that don't make money take too much money to put on (Spitooney) . . .

the onrushing crush of culturally-correct attempts to drown, smother, ban, limit, deride, or otherwise bully into nonexistance Tringo, Slingo, and other popular entertaining ways to pass the time and have fun . . .

. . . the constant call for this and that money sink in every possible trivial way to nickle and dime the player to death, charging him to travel, to wear attachments, to post an event, to take a leak . . .

the constant moaning about the "shallow" among us . . .

. . . and all the other things that cause me to wonder, where do you think all us content creators are going to be when all the fun-loving people go off to something more fun? (Not to mention more welcoming.)

We'll be PBS, while everyone else is watching the other channels, is where we'll be, hoping for contributions, but not even as good as PBS. We'll be opera, struggling to survive, while rock rules the world.

I built the first in-world blogging program, which is freely available in the Scripting Archive, though slightly outmoded these days. There was my SL-controlled MP3 player, which was more proof of concept than anything. I used to host the SL history wiki on an old, ASP.NET wiki I wrote; so, for a time, my program was content given to the community.

I just spent a bundle on fully functioning male anatomy and now I'm going to be charged to take a leak. The well known purveyor of said Object never mentioned this and with a Brand I trusted, I was sure everything was on the up and up. This is too much! What's next, a tax on streaking? All my fun is squashed before I even get around to it.

No wonder I never leave my hut. I'll be at home sulking. Don't bother me.

It seems that if anything fun is invented it is instantly attacked by the Conservatives in here. Those who preach the Conservative Work Ethic. There use to be huge clubs where you could go dance the night away and earn lots of lindens, Till the Conservatives screamed that the entertainment was filthy that giving out free money was a sin, and that people should concentrate on creating content instead of having fun.

Yes I see your point Angel. I really didnt mean it in that way since I am a capitalist who firmly believes in financial reward for hard work and creativity. I was thinking more about those whose sole motivation is profiteering vs those who contribute time, effort, creativity and perhaps their own financial resources merely to entertain, educate and share with others.

SL has seen some amazing examples of those who act altruistically. For example people such as Cristiano, Chip, Flipper, Abramelin, Merwan, Jamie Otis, and so many more (please forgive my failure to mention all the names that come to mind,) have worked hard to enhance the SL experience and community at their own expense.

This doesnt mean they are not or should not be rewarded financially; they most certainly should.

Guess I am fed up with comments slamming their efforts made by those who really add nothing to SL but their presence and often unwelcome criticism.

I guess you never visited Gypsy Moon during the one year plus that I maintained it for the sole pleasure of the SL community, well thats right how could you....you are banned from there. Just as much as you claim “You don’t know me! You don’t know what I have done!!” in that classic daytime television trashy way, you don’t know me either. I didn’t make a thread in a thinly veiled attempt to call people out so I can appear to be superior to others, you did. I asked a simple question, what the hell have you done? SL is a big place, there are people that contribute everyday without bragging on it in forums, because may they are just good people and feel the contribution is enough. You can keep your inflammatory community dividing posts to yourself.

Edited to add:

Anyone who is paying for SL has the right to complain and bitch about it as they please even if they have never added a damn thing to SL because they are a paying customer to a for Profit organization. No one who is paying for SL should feel obligated to give a damn thing back to the community. This is pay to play, not the Red Cross.
