Kiefer, from what I have been able to discern, refers to a fresh barrel of beer or possibly a barrel maker. :=)

Besides I thought it sounded cool.

Beckett just seemed like a name that with with Kiefer.

I chose Persephone because in Greek mythology she had a bit of a second life herself! I thought this was a fun idea and it lets me play both naughty and nice while staying in-character. To complete my spiritual connection to Persephone, I recently opened a small shop on Phantasie Island called Pomegranate Designs (a shameless plug from the Queen of the Underworld AND the Goddess of Springtime!) :)

THE STORY OF PERSEPHONE

Persephone is the goddess of the underworld in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Persephone was such a beautiful young woman that everyone loved her, even Hades wanted her for himself. One day, when she was collecting flowers on the plain of Enna, the earth suddenly opened and Hades rose up from the gap and abducted her. None but Zeus, and the all-seeing sun, Helios, had noticed it.

Broken-hearted, Demeter wandered the earth, looking for her daughter until Helios revealed what had happened. Demeter was so angry that she withdrew herself in loneliness, and the earth ceased to be fertile. Knowing this could not continue much longer, Zeus sent Hermes down to Hades to make him release Persephone. Hades grudgingly agreed, but before she went back he gave Persephone a pomegranate (or the seeds of a pomegranate, according to some sources). When she later ate of it, it bound her to underworld forever and she had to stay there one-third of the year. The other months she stayed with her mother. When Persephone was in Hades, Demeter refused to let anything grow and winter began. This myth is a symbol of the budding and dying of nature.

From: feniks Stone
feniks is fonetic for Phoenix, the fire bird who rises out of the ashes and believe me, I feel the flames as I type. It has been my internet name for years now.

Stone, because I knew I would outlive all the other Stones and be the only one left, the gypsy that remains...

fen-

And here I thought you might have gignormous ears or something (fennec foxes). :D

my name in all games
01-18-2005 15:45
In all game and virtual worlds I play I am Snakekiss. She is the virtual 'me'. My two childhood heroes who persist today are Lara Croft and Bruce Lee.

Snakekiss is my'ninja' name. Silent, deadly, fast.. like the kiss of a snake.....

Being Japanese such a name was logical for me. One of my parent is French, and my Favourite color is.. black... so when i reach SL and they insist on TWO names for myself I find Noir.. which is French.. and means .. black....

That is how it works.

So I am the silent fast deadly japanese girl who wears black and speaks french...
and I borrowed a couple of obvious assets from Lara...

Also as a final twist... my japanese family name is Kichizuke.. which means... Kiss!

all fits eh? spooky..

From: Catfart Grayson
Catfart was the name of a Dungeons and Dragons NPC I created in the mid 70's. When I started needing an online name, All the ones I liked were gone (I dont like being Cat109 or XXXCatXXX).

In desperation trying to find a unique name in one game, I remembered Catfart (And his brother Dogbreath). Strangely enough, it wasnt taken. Since then I've been able to use the same name in all games, never meeting another Catfart, although I've seen a couple of Dogbreath's.

I was a bit stumped by SL's second name system (Wish more games would use it). Luckely Grayson happened to be the name of the of the ruling family in the old D&D game that Catfart came from, so Catfart Grayson I became.

Every time I see your name in the forums I crack up and wish I thought of it. Thanks for the story behind it :)

I chose this name because when I took Russian in high school. We had to think up or Russian name, that we going to use and be called in class and by our other class mates. I chose 'Vladimir' as my frist name. ( Can not remember last name, that was to long ago ). So when I signed up for SL, I looked at the avalible last names, and saw Statosky, and thought that Vladimir would be a good name to go with it. But I wanted imy name to different and stand out somewhat so that is how I came up with 'Valdimir'. It is not a commonly used spelling of the name.

Kitsune is Japanese for "fox." In a way, that describes me.

Kanahoe is mostly for the alliteration; it was also the only available last name that combined even remotely well with the first name. >.>

Frankly, this was originally a test account. One day, stuff started to happen to it. Then, some more stuff happened. Circumstances required that it remain in use for a time. Eventually, it had far too much history (or baggage) to turn it off.

Now, it is as much a person as an avatar can be. It would be wrong to turn it off. It is me, and I am it.

Since beta days, I haven't spent more than 1 hour TOTAL in any other accounts. I have an alt, but I only use it to test sensors and weapons.

Oh! And it has 700 Lindens, and a few spare gadgets, that I'm saving for emergencies. Inventories have had problems before.

So, to answer the question, I chose "Kathy" because it was a left-hand-only name to type (I was a guitarist, and a bad typist), and I don't think the interface remembered your name at the time. I chose "Yamamoto" because it was long, and I guess I felt no one else would miss me using one of them up. Remember, they retire a name after 150 (?) uses.

Now, I have come to see it as a perfectly respectable name, that I hope people see belonging to a person who speaks truthfully and plainly, if perhaps a bit forcefully.

What, do you have two left hands? last time I checked K and y were on the other side of the keyboard...

My name speaks for itself, I thought of this name as a joke and didn't bother to re regsiter when I discovered I actually enjoyed being here.

As for Marten... well it was just something that went with Lianne lol

Well...NFM is my real life nickname (shortened version of No Fear Man) and my real life company is NFM Enterprises...so...that explains the first part.

Darkholme...I don't know...probably because it had some sort of mystique about it.

Like I said, I don't know how to type, so most words are just patterns to me. At the time, the name seemed a bit like a riff on a guitar. It can be made with a 1st-4th spread with little trouble (I have a good reach) then 3rd-1st-2nd left-hand finger pattern real close together (sort of like Amin).

Frankly, in order to stay close to the trackball, I type most things with the left hand. Some are easier than others.

While in a mystical trance, I typed Gene for my first name, then closed my eyes, and scroll-wheeled like a madman on the surname list. Upon releasing the mouse, and opening my eyes, what fortune -- a clever pun!

Alright, that was complete and utter hogwash. I initially tried for Ford Prefect -- who'd have guessed it was already taken? :p

I was still rather set on something whimsical, so upon finding Poole, I was overcome by a sudden urge to not try harder, and by sheer luck, I got Gene Poole. Otherwise, I probably would have just used the first name Socrates, and hoped for an occasional Bruce fan to recognize the reference.

When I joined TSO I needed to come up with a name. Normally on the internet I use secretlondon but that looked a bit crap as an avatar name. As the best bit of the Sims was building I called myself Roberta after the UK childrens TV character Bob the Builder. I'm not Latina in anyway. My only other TSO was rofl - and that was only because it was available.

SL requires a surname as well as a first name. I chose Dalek as it is unusual, and British coming from the UK science fiction series Dr Who. Despite this I'm not actually a big Dr Who fan.

Why choose names with British references? Because I'm in the UK and the internet is generally dominated by Americans. I'm not patriotic or nationalist in anyway - I'm just not American and don't wish to be one. Dalek is British to those in the know without being overt.

First off I go by many a name: Steve-o Esteban, Steban, Skippy, Airborne(from being int the Air Force)

After a good RL freind of mine told me about SL I got intrigued and joined up. So coming up for a name was eay for me. In 9th spanish class I saw the word Fuego, which is spanish for Fire. I'm some what of a pyro and like fire, so it fits me well :D I adopted Fuego as my own personall nickname and used it as my tag when i wrote all over my books in high shcool, hehe.

I chose Falcone for one reason and one reason only........ it just fits, hehe.

I hardly post or read the forums, manily I'm to busy with SL itself so catch ya in game, woot woot.

:)

I have been Mhaijik for many years online - first introduction to the online 'world' sitting at the keyboard thinking of a name - to me being able to communicate with 1000's across the internet was majik - hence Mhaijik - I am a weirdo at spelling - I like things my way

Anyone who ever knew Mhaijik anywhere online before, can find me in a search.

I also seem to be, or have, or find majik where ever I go.

Then to pick a last name ack - I went down the list over and over again - and decided on Guillaume after googling it - I liked the look of it - so I had to know who Guillaumes were or what it meant. (*waves* at Emmy)

It fit - it is the name of many artists, poets and authors, which fits me as well :o

This is my second name - my first one was, like many others here, my real first name. But it was in beta test and my poor machine couldn't handle the program. I abandoned SL after one day under that account. (Saskya Valen - Valen because it was the most... well, it was the least of the evils offered, since i couldn't choose my own.)

Changeling Fate was created months later when Devyn reminded me of SL - and i'd realized i'd gotten a pretty signficant computer update. I chose Changeling because that's what my usual RP character IS, as in - her race. Some people are elves, she's a changeling. (different from a shapeshifter, and no - not in :the dreaming sense.) Fate, because there's this odd thing that goes on in my life.... uh, well. nevermind. it's much more self centered than i like to convey, really. Suffice it to say that people that get really close to me seem to think i somehow change their lives - for some odd reason. That and again, 'Fate' was the least of the offered evils in that drop down list.

Duuya means Bear in my native language (no, it isn't a cleaver way to say, "Do you";)
Herbst means I smoke (yes, I'm proud)

So in a sense my name means: Bear Smoke or something.....

Liv is my rl name. Sooooooo easy.

Karuna....well, as a former Therian I was relentlessly hounded by Wuvme Karuna to check out SL. She assured me I wouldn't be disappointed. Finally relenting, I agreed to try it and of course to assume Wuvme's last name.....as we were most certainly Therian sisters. So Liv Karuna it was!

Arda ~
The High Elven name for the whole world including both the mortal lands of Middle-earth and the immortal realm of the Undying Lands from Tolkien's Books. I've been a fan of Tolkien's books long before they became popluar and made into movies and thought Arda was a pretty name.

Fauna ~
Because I love nature and everything in it.

Fauna ~
in ancient Roman religion, a goddess of the fertility of woodlands, fields, and flocks; she was the counterpart—variously considered the wife, sister, or daughter—of Faunus

I've been curious about how people selected their SL name, this thread is really interesting. :)
