OH and Lo - I love your name! When I see you, I always think of the homeplace for the folks in Octavia E. Butler's Xenogenisis series of books. It is called Lo :D

That's so funny, I've read Octavia E. Butler, even saw her speak at some book fair. I am not sure if I have read that series; I read the books a long time ago. Hmm! :)

Well, I've been using rinaz as my internet moniker for a very long while now. I feel that it suits me as its part of my real name add it with a Z at the end to make it sound like rina's. Like rina's webby or rina's email.

It was interesting to note that when I logged in voice chat, I'd usually hear people prouncing my name as "rhy-naaz" Yuk ...lol

The last name bijoux was just chosen at random, wasnt choosy :p It just seemed to click together anyways :)

Heather-My RL first name

Dawn-My mother always told me that if I had a middle name that it would be Dawn.

Cohen-I had a very interesting dream once about the name COHEN...always wondered why...still don't know :D

This is been my first change to my handle in a LONG time. I've always used in the past heather13h. Was tired of people thinking I was that old...hehe. 13 was picked because it has been a family lucky number for about 40 years. And H was for the first initial of my maiden name.

o.k. here is how I pick mine and alot of people try to guess or think they know but they are wrong everytime.

Mrs...because I'm married in RL

J..A..K..A..L Is the first letter of everyone in my immediate family first name. Except for the L that is the first letter of our last name.

Sauvage because it just seemed to go well with the first.

However, I have been nicknamed by SL residents as MJ...its easier to type.

Huggerz,
MJ :)

Well this is a good thread to make my first post in!

I've been "the impudent guttersnipe" online since 1992, and I often shorten to to imp or snipe. Hard to do that most places these days because all the other imps out there usually beat me to it.

I chose Ludovico because A Clockwork Orange is one of my favorite books and movies of all time. So watch out or you'll get the Ludovico Treatment from me! ;)

I have always been Pituca online. I always had to add a number though there were so many. It means "A young lady of the fashionable set" in Spanish. AND "Soy muy pituca". hehe

There were no Latino sur names to choose from at that time, so I chose Chang in honor of a dear online friend with the RL last name of Chan who died just one year before I found Second Life.

I chose "Spinnaker" because I thought it sounded cool...only later did I find out it was some kind of sail or something. "Gabriel" was the first name a friend of mine came up with when I said to her "quick, what's the first male name you can think of" (since I couldn't come up with any) -- perhaps ironically, my avatar is female right now.

I was kind of unhappy with the name at first, and though I continue to wish that I'd chosen a more gender-neutral name, I'd hate to change it now.

Looking down the list of words I saw Lumin and thought of luminescence. I like that it is a word play, a nice form of light, it isn't gender specific and sounds nice to me.

As for me, Ilianexsi is a name I found in a book of strange & unusual baby names when I was writing a story ages ago... I chose it for the name of a female demon I was writing about. The story is still on a back burner. As far as I can tell, the name doesn't mean anything. (Though if anybody knows of a meaning, I'd love to hear it.) It's been my internet name for quite a while now.

Sojourner I chose because I like the connotation... it means 'temporary resident,' though I don't plan to be here only temporarily. :) I liked the travelling, nomadic image it conjured up.

Most people shorten my name to Ilia or Ilian, which is much easier to remember. I realized after I registered the name that I shouldn't have capitalized it-- it would be much easier to see how it's spelled that way-- but, oh well. :)

My name was orginal going to be kirt, but as I was registering I botched up my e-mail. Mixed to addresses together, so I had to reigster twice. And sense kirt was locked up in limbo. I did kurt.

I picked Christopher because it was the name I used in TSO and I liked the nickname "Chris". Ugh, I still get nausious when I think of the number of times I had to "green up" my little avatar there >_< I was so glad when someone alerted me to SL, where I picked up my first C-like programming language.
Omega because it resembled the last name I used there as well, and I felt Christopher Omega had a nice ring to it

Im glad I picked Omega though, since many great SL'ers are part of the Omega clan, Catherine, Ama, Charlie, and Echo, to name a few ;)

So true. :D

I was like, "Who blessed those Omegas with such endowments of scriptly goodness?"

When I first came to SL, I was wondering about this. Similar with the Epoch clan, I think.

Who was it among us who did an heuristical study of SL last names? Was it you, Kex? *points at Kexxles* :D There were some fascinating things learned from that.

I've been reluctant to reply, because my name is SO not original. I was new to online worlds when I signed up for SL. I didn't even know people could talk back to me!! Scared one was I. I *thought* that I was supposed to sign up with my real life name. It let me type "Kate". I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't let me type "Hatch". Figuring it was an oversight on LL's part, I chose Hanks, the closest thing I could find.

When I was at an SL'ers party in RL...with Hik, Lita, Hobbes, Trin and Nala...everyone (including me) laughed at my unoriginal name. But truth be told, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am as much of myself in SL as I am in RL.

The scary part of having my SL name so close to my RL name is when I tend to mix them up. I once answered my work phone saying "Kate Hanks...". Doh! :D

heh fun thread

i'm a mythology fan: forseti is a norse mythological name(son of balder and nanna). Picking a last name to go with Forseti was kind of tough, so i stuck with the myth theme -- svarog is the slavic sky god.

Hehe...yeah...I think the quote in the movie goes "This famous linguist once said that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words in all of history, that "Cellar Door" is the most beautiful." by Drew Barrymore.

I believe that was in fact J.R.R. Tolkien who originally made the statement about 'cellar door' being a lovely sounding phrase, if you say it divorced from its meaning... though I could be mistaken about that. The man was a language nut extraordinaire. :D

As for my av's name... Cross is the name of one of the main characters in a rather... ahem... 'racy' science fiction story I've been working on. :D Cross, of course, comes from the cross-shaped pattern on her back.

Lament just seemed the best fit, considering the character's background and whatnot. :)

Faminu was a randomly generated name by the EQ1 engines eons ago, has stuck with me through a few games/IRC, etc... Usually gets shortened to Fam or Fami (my current EQ2 name heh).

Ditto on the surname, the whole wanderer thing seemed to fit me very well. :)

I remember when the city opened and I rode the trolley. Then it disappeared. The rumour was Echo stole it. I'm pretty sure it's true. Echo, don't you know? She's the evil purple one!

The rest of the Omegas are cool though.
