How did you pick your SL name?

I am simply blown away after reading this thread in it's entirety.

Mine was easy... Almitra is from the book "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran, She is a seeress. The book is a very interesting collection of "wisdoms" that the "prophet' imparts upon the people of the village before he leaves on his final 'journey', i.e. death. My rl hubby has teased me for years that I am a 'seeress' just because I happen to 'know' things before they happen, sometimes, but don't bet on me knowing anything of importance when you really need to know it! LOL!

And Blair? because it seemed to 'go' with a seeress better than the other choices at the time

Lillyana- I love that name....i use that name in various places..

Hoffman-When I saw this last name there I couldn't believe my eyes!

If you have ever seen Snow White-A tale of Terror...Lillyana Hoffman is Snow White...

Anyway, how I got my SL name (rather boring story really *giggles*) TSO was my first online game, & I used names that began with MAL, & therefore friends pretty much always called me Mal. I like(d) that alot so I wanted to stick with something like that in SL as well.
The hardest part of that was that Valana & I knew, before we started SL we would want to be Twin sisters in SL (After all we had already been sisters in TSO ever since we met over 2 years ago) So together we went back & forth til finally we came up with Malana & Valana. Spencer because well, at the time, to us it was the most *normal* sounding name & it goes well with our first names. We LOVE being the *Spencer sisters*

When hubby and I were dating, we watched George of the Jungle together. George reminded me of my hubby so I started calling him George and he started calling me Ursula. (yeah, I know, puke ) When I got invited to try out Uru I just changed Ursula to Urusula. I kept that name on SL so Uru friends could find me. Zapata went well with Urusula.

In June of 2003, I was accepted to beta test an online version of a Myst game called Uru Ages Beyond Myst. I pondered over a befitting name and came up with Estrelle. I later learned that Estrella was the Spanish word for "Star" which I thought was lovely as I enjoy all things interstellar.

When Uru was no longer and I discovered SL in February of 2004 I decided to keep the name Estrelle so that my ex Uru buddies would recognise me, and I hoped it would be original. To this day I am still the only Estrelle .

I chose Fauna as my last name because I love my pets, Julius my pussy and Peppy my Cockatiel.

A friend of mine recommended SL to me, having met her in TSO. Logged in and was overwhelmed by choices.

I wanted something semi - normal so as not to stand out like a sore thumb. I love the name Misty so I typed that in quickly. Selecting a last name was harder until I reached the "R" list and loved the name Rhodes. "I picked a great clan btw Hugs to all my Rhodes relatives".

It was not till much later that I found out I had the same name as a porn star <------ THIS WAS TOTALLY UNINTENTIONAL!

in fact i am YadNi now for a while, i was already Yadni in "T".com, which was my first "serious" online game addiction before i fell on SL.
Normally, it is to be cut into two parts, Yad and Ni. Where Yad is for my RL first name: David, which is written Yaddad in Hebrew, took the first half and i was Yad. Ni is a very very ancient nickname my parents used to give me when i was a baby and even them, they dont remember the reasons or meanings, i was simply "Mister Ni" .... so came Ni just after Yad to make me a complete name: YadNi

Monde: aha one of the best names i saw in the list when i created this avatar. It means "world" in French, which is my native language. World. Mother Earth. Home. Sons of the Earth. Yea that s exactly it, i feel like a son of the Monde =)

Caitlin has been a name I have used online for a while now. In TSO I had the name Chloe. I met my best friend there and she started calling me C. So when I recreated she wanted me to keep a name that started with a C, so she could continue to call me that. I did a search on baby names, seen the name Caitlin and fell in love with it. So from then on I have been Caitlin. Caitlin Chance in TSO..._Caitlin in THERE.com and now Caitlin in SL.

I got Jackson from looking down the list and when I seen the name Jackson, I thought of the Janet Jackson song Nasty Boys. The one little part where she says Ms Jackson if you're nasty! Pretty dull I know......But thought I would post it.

By the way...My friend that calls me C also plays SL.....her name is Nicki Jackson!

Honestly? I was inspired by, of all things, my Deus Ex II character. She rocked, and so did that game. (But I couldn't get a last name that started with D ... )

I picked David mainly because it was my name in RL [Aswell as my fathers, my grandfathers, my great grandfathers and so on and so forth ]

Jacobs was the closest to my real life last name of Joseph.

Doesn't sound as exotic as your lot but still kinda funky [To me anyway.. I'm a sad sad man]

Ikari - Dual source. Name of my character I ran around in alot of games as, and my nickname among friends (Ikari - Japanese for Anger.)

Gullwing - My character is an otter, and gullwing just makes me think of a seagull's wing. Seagull, otter. Both near the water? Works for me.

For me I have always been interested in anythng Egyptian...

Speedfreak - A name I have used online for about 6 or 7 years now. I was/am Speedfreak515 in There (which was my first online world). Anyway, its referring to my hobby about computers how I like to always have the best hardware I could possibly get and keep everything running nice and fast. Also refers to the fact that I like to drive fast.

Valentino - This one just caught my eye from the list when I signed up. I like the "latin lover" feel to it (though I am German and Irish) . I don't know why, it just sounded best to me when I signed up. I'm glad, though. What a great bunch of Valentinos in world.

Hmmmmm Let me think.. Well no reason except i was supposed to be an Andy when i was born but came out wrong sex... lol... And Cooper cuz it didn't sound stupid sounded normal sorta..

I chose Cristiano because it is is my RL first name, and in both TSO and There I used my name (since I don't often run into many other Cristianos). At the time I signed up, there were no really Latin sounding last names, so I went with Midnight because my AOL screen name was DarkPrinceFL, and it had a nice ring to it. Little did I know I would be joining the Midnight Mafia (according to Imagoel Best).

When my girlfriend joined SL a little while later, my RL last name was available and she picked that since Midnight was locked at the end of beta. Sadly, I think I most likely would have taken my actual last name if it had been available, though I am glad it wasn't, as I am rather fond of Midnight

My original SL name when I joined in January of 2003 was actually Martinito Starseeker. My cousin had gotten accepted into the beta, and his name is Martin. He hated SL so he gave the account to me, and surprise, I hated SL too lol. I didn't play very much intiially. When I finally did start to get more into it, I wanted my own name

Karuna- because i played there.com and i always used to hang out in Karuna Plaza, it was the best place in There.com when i was there... alot of memories.. lol
