Ravenelle is my internet nick. I had wanted plain ol Raven on another game many ages ago but it wasn't available so I just made this one up. Turns out it is a german name but I digress and that has nothing to do with anything really.
Zugzwang was the last name on the list at the time. |

I wanted something i didn't think anyone else would have, so i made one up. If you put an "s" on the end- in SL i am the me i want to be "versus" the me i have to be in RL. (*to the live DJ's in SL- it is pronounced VER-soo,stress on the first syllable- you guys always bitch at me for my name).
Richelieu i picked because everything sounds better in french, non? Mostly, i just liked the assonance with the first name. Richelieu means "wealthy place" but that had no bearing on my choice. _____________________

My name came from the movie called, "Boogie Nights," which starred Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, and Julianne Moore. Amber Waves was the character played by Julianne Moore. When I saw that Waves was offered as a last name it was only obvious that I picked Amber Waves as my name.

Wow this is a long thread

Since I was not active when this thread first came to be, I guess I will post about my name now.
Legith was actually a name of a character in an RPG story I was writing. At some point I gave up on the project, but before I did I made a concept drawing of this Legith character. This drawing is/was hanging in my room.. glanced at it and decided to bring the character to life in SL. As for originally coming up with the name, I believe a fantasy name generator was used. As for fairplay.. it just seemed to work the best.. I went over that list of last name multiple times, not really that happy with many of them. However I must say I'm happy with the name. _____________________

When I started in beta I feared that once beta ended we'd all be required to get new names. Honestly, I wanted my name to be Majidah so I picked Eve so I could get rid of it later. Well, we never had to swap names, so Eve stuck.
As for Cartier.. it was that or Apple... and the irony was too much for me. |

Mine was based on the preset list of surnames. When I saw 'Marlowe' I immediately thought 'Clarissa' - Clarissa Harlowe (almost the same!) is the eponymous heroine of 18th century novellist Samuel Richardson's masterpiece 'Clarissa'.
I like the fact that surname choice is restricted. Having come from EverQuest, where people thought it was fun to call themselves some extremely dodgy things, I appreciate the fact that it keeps a lid on really bad taste or offensive names. |

As quickly as I could I picked two words that seemed to repel each other. I wanted something wise yet stupid... It sounded cool during those few seconds it took me to drag my mouse to the button that would bring about my DOOM. I am constantly smothered in novelty toast gifts. ITS SUFFOCATING ME.
The only thing I've really succeeded in with using this name is making my friends uneasy while eating breakfast. ![]() _____________________

An atmospheric welsh river running through glades of trees and enigmatic faerie-like glowing lights zipping around as if by magic over the cool mystical waters ?
No, not really...... well, if you like, but at the time.... I just happen like the word Firefly, I find it evocative, and Dee is a name I also like which also sounds the first letter of my 'real' name. I chose on the spur of the moment whilst signing up.... I have a habit of picking things with Crow, Raven, or Hazel in them otherwise, or maybe something dragonish or usually something else mythic and magical, so this does make a refreshing change, plus I've grown into the name here as a person and couldn't be anything else now, even when I occasionally log in as an alt I feel like Dee masquerading ![]() In another world, I am Aeriel ![]() |

The last name "Surface" probably has more than its fair share of "descriptive" names. "Rough Surface", "Frictionless Surface", "Riemann Surface" and so on. "Seifert Surface" is no different, but it's an obscure enough technical term (related to my RL work) that almost nobody will know what it is. It also sounds like a real name, which is because it is - Herbert Seifert was a German mathematician.

Wow... I've now read this thread *twice* seven months apart. I think the first time through I was too tired by the end to post.
![]() The fact that you choose a name, and that your last name was restricted to a list, really stopped me for a good half hour or so. I had nothing to go on, just a half hour demo from a friend as to what SL was like. Was this name going to be something I'd keep a long time? I really just wanted to get in-world and get started! I came up with some bad puns based on available names, but didn't want to be stuck with a pun if I spent a lot of time in SL. The names I came up with that sounded cool were taken, again and again. Eventually I kept coming back to Neutra as neutral, as in bland, as in nobody would have taken anything I wanted for a first name... That left me stumped for the first name. I drove myself nuts over it, and was about to type in my RL name or something equally boring when the phrase "zippity doodah" flashed into my head, thinking "pick anything for chrissakes, type zippity doodah -- just enter something and click!!!" So I entered Zippity Neutra and stared at it for a while. Honestly, I think I was just relieved to have something I thought I could live with, so that's what I went with. I don't see a lot of Neutras in-world or on the forums. But that's not really a bad thing... _____________________

Ennui because i am easily bored.
Jackal because i didn't want to go with my standard internet monikers or RL first name, and it sounded kind of nice with "Ennui". Also, easy to type, easy to remember, asexual, and i even found a jackal AV recently :) |

Sigma for "Sigma Hyperon" -- a composite object of aub-atomic particle resonances (meson and baryon both stable and unstable)
Overdrive -- mostly for the etymological suggestions of excess... Ultimately suggesting that I am a composite object of excessive colliding "forces." I exist solely by the collision and interactions of the world around me. I am an indefinite. Accurate, but immeasurable in my entirety. A blip. You won't even see me unless you look for me. _____________________

i was sassysaphire in There. saphire, because that is my husband's nick name for me. sassy, for obvious reasons. Linden would not let me have sassy. so i modified it and became sazzysaphire. but i am still sassy! i picked the last name because the person who introduced me to SL had same last name.

i used my first name Bob and Parks for my last name because it was the closest thing to parker my deceaced Grandpa's last name. He raised me as a child and was the only dad i ever really had in my life, so its a homage to him in a funky kinda way.

![]() hmm my fav uncles name is Ziggy. and while looking for a new name a few years ago i tryied Ziggy, then ziggie, then xiggy then settled on Xiggie (it looked the best). i refuse to have numbers after my name, i dont want to be Ziggy the III, i want to be me. And ive never had a prob with xiggie being available, and it easy enough to pronounce, and fun to say. for my surname i didnt even scroll through the whole list. i came across Fizz and thought it was spiffy. my last name in rl is an one syabil f name too, so i took to it. oh and i thought xiggie fizz catchy. |

I got my first name Melmia from one of my favorite characters I've designed, and the only one to really last in most situations.
Marat i have no real clue why I choose. It sounded the best with it. Keeping my name short and easy to remember. Also giving it a nice little ring to it in my mind, making it sightly jsut there. -Mel |

I've always tried to find different names, when I began TSO I would use my real name, I got bored with that and used to look up names on online baby names websites. When I went to sign up for SL, the name Celeste came into my head, not really sure why. As I scrolled the last names i went from a-z trying to find one that meshed well, I ended up back with Arnaz..it just had the same lilt to me I suppose. They both have a slight Hispanic flavor to it, though I'm far from having any Latino or Hispanic in my background, I like the flow of the names.
I found out Celeste is Latin for "From the Heavens", religion is a large part of my life. |
