Oh I would do more than say I'm sorry. I would advocate for prison sentences and long ones. I also would like to see prisons be about reform rather than torture. Again, I would stand with those victims just as I have stood by friends who have come to terms with molestation. (One of my 3 best friends was molested for years by her father who hung himself in her bedroom.) I also know that his violent death was as traumatic for her as his abuse of her.

Additionally, I have sat with women making T-Shirts for The Clothesline Project in which they took the internal healing process and externalized it for people to see their pain and healing. I have spent quite a lot of time with victims of molestation, both as a women's centre coordinator and as a transition house manager.

None of the women that I sat with said to me, "I wish he was dead." In the two cases where the abuser was dead (both by suicide) the victims expressed mixed feelings about this.

Again, there are more than the victims to think about-there are the potential future victims to think of. In the last story I posted-had that man been put to death, those other two girls would not have had to endure that nightmare. I'm pretty sure if you asked them before the incident "Would you rather this man die or rape you and keep you prisoner?" they would rather see him dead.

Doesn't change the fact that this topic has completely derailed-and in that much I agree with you. This is typical. They can't defend themselves on the topic so they come up with another one.

Let's talk victims pal

as a matter of fact, I think the people who did this deserve the death penelty. who is going to prevent the culprits from killing and maiming innocent children again? You don't seem too worried about innocents here? Or is innocence only an anglo trait?

I stayed on topic dood. you gave your little examples about how people who diddle kids should have a bullet in their heads

I give my examples about how people who blow up and burn children and kill thier family deserve the same

how are you missing the connection?

I don't think you are... at some level

you know that you have blood on your hands

so I think you are just in a state of denial

you will work it out in therapy, or with your God later

oh yeah, good luck with that

may you see the face of every Iraqi child you burned be forever imprinted in your brain

whether by your own hand or the policies you defend, of death and violence, of looting and maiming and killing

you can attempt to justify that you want "some" people killed by an expert of your choosing, and how you cherish innocence and are pro life but then go and support the killing of innocents

then you call people hypocrite

say "libs gone wild" all you want

cute

doesn't wash the blood from your hands

you are out of touch dood

these pictures are my way of taking the distance out of your bully tactics of shooting from hundreds of miles away and not seeing the result of your aggression

sure, pretend to be a hero, hide the photos of the coffins coming home to dover, pretend your violence is nice and clean and sterile to keep the illusion and facade of your your pure, lily white, innocence incarnate right?

you follow gods rules right? Jesus?

From: Jesus Christ

Let him that is without sin cast the first stone

actually, you want to kill everyone whose moral compass doesn't point your way

muslims, they are savage animals, kill them

pedos, my life is worth more than theirs

killers, Jesus doesn't forgive murder

You mesh politics and religion, and your next act will consist of explaining religion and state don't mix

but that justifies other positions by you

and then you call people hypocrite

typical

no, your actions/decisions/votes/campaigning didn't burn those kids

it was societys fault, right?

Personally, I would rather be diddled by a creepy uncle than have my family killed, my arms blown off; blown to pieces...

but they deserve a medal right

thats just sick

You have done more to derail this topic than any of the other posters. Your constant barrage of attacks against their dissenting beliefs and opinions disgusts me. I know it won't happen but, I really wish you would unlabel yourself as a Republican.

What a load of SHIT this thread is. It's been awhile since I've seen such a barrage of different "FACTS" (with no references or actual proof to back them up whatsoever) thrown out randomly just to discredit people.
So here's my attempt to disrail it even more...I'm sure the thread can manage to get even more crappy.

By the way these "exciting, unusual people" just happen to be shooting at you, detonating bombs near you, killing other DECENT foreign people, and would cut your head off if they could.

Er, I mean... woohooo...flower power.... make peace not war... there's never a good reason to wage a war man... *goes off to get high and protest the Iraq war in support of the troops*

Whatever this refers to, general or specific, it doesn't make any sense. I'm sure the death penalty doesn't exist "to show people that killing is wrong". (To even suggest it is completely assinine.) And fighting insurgents/extremists/terrorists is generally intended to STOP them from killing innocents (or defend yourself). Not to "show that killing is wrong".

True enough. At least this makes sense.

Where is the teenaged hippie that wrote the first two? We need to send them back to school so they can learn something.

He probably has derailed more than anyone else (since I wasn't around to do that) but I'm not seeing any better behavior on the other side either.

The point has been made that I have derailed this thread and in retrospect I agree that I have done my fair share. I've allowed this to veer from a discussion on a very important topic and deteriorate into the same old partisan bickering. Therefore, I've removed or editted all my posts that make direct mention of Liberals.

To be clear, I still mean what I said-but those statements bore no relevance to what I consider to be an extremely important topic.

Yeah, just an attempt to further de-rail for fun. :D You have to admit half of them are stupid.

That one I missed makes sense, at least. No comment really.

Faulty reasoning. One of the more common flaws of logic assumes only two outcomes. It is like the idea of hmm... I spend a lot on my gas bill, but if I don't, I'll freeze to death. I also spend a lot on my electricity bill. I can't afford to keep spending like this. I'll have them turn off my electricity (without thinking gosh if I quit gambling 100 bucks a month I could pay for both of them). This type of reasoning is such a common flaw that it is mentioned in chapters on argumentation.

What would be good is to not live in a society where children are sexualized in the media, on television, on MTV, in Calvin Klein ads, or anywhere. It would be good if people who commit crimes are punished fairly for them and helped as much as possible to reform (cheaper that way for one). Are you actually advocating killing people before they've committed crimes based on the idea that they might commit a crime?

When someone has committed a crime, that person should be punished, and if the crime is one that poses danger to others, incarcerated. The girls would not have been abused if he was incarcerated, either.

Agreed. I believe the appropriate punishment for this crime is death. It's the only gaurantee.

I didn't bother to read all of the posts because I figure most of them have nothing to do with the original post but I do have a question. What is the problem with the ACLU standing up for our constitutional rights?

We (in the USA) do live in a Republic governed by a document called the Constitution and I see nothing wrong with a group dedicated to defending our rights.

If I hear another person blasting the ACLU, and using child abuse as the reason, I will puke.

I am going to add that the last thing that victims of child abuse need is violent outrage at what happened to them. It only traumatizes them further. All it accomplishes is making the soap box people feel proud of themselves for speaking out againt child abuse.

And who is going to say sorry to the victims of these men who should have been behind bars but weren't? You?

You going to say sorry to the family members of the innocent citizens who were murdered by their own government?

From: someone

You're right, like the victims of an immoral unjust government. And I'm not thinking those who are executed here, I'm thinking the families of those who were executed. Why should they be punished for being related to a psycho? Do people who lose family members to violent crime, then support the death penalty, realize that they are in essence doing to another family what was done to them? Why would I wish that on anyone, unless I'm simply uncaring and bloodthirsty?

A chance to leave the GOP and fight for the rights of the rest of us humans who are not filthy rich

there are plenty of parties, although I don't advise democratic unless you must vote for one to prevent the current batch of neo cons from gaining or retaining a seat

good to have you aboard. It takes some longer than others to notice the pure evil in our president, but when it hits us, we know we have an obligation to save the republic

Yeah, it'd be terrible not to throw away your vote. After all, who wants to vote for a candidate who has a hope in hell of winning? It's much more fun to vote for a guy who's accidentally dyed his skin blue, or who wears a tinfoil hat in public.
