From: Reitsuki Kojima What, exactly, do you think happens to dogs that maul people? Fine, I'm not in favor of that either. Happy? There is, however, a difference between people and other animals. We're not, for example, allowed to kill other people and sell them at McDonald's.

From: Elspeth Withnail Several people on this thread have expressed a sentiment that I believe can fairly be rephrased as 'Killing other human beings is never... ever... acceptable.' I am curious... is killing in self-defense acceptable? And no, I am not drawing the same parallel I was a bit ago (executing extremely dangerous offenders to protect society), I mean private-citizen-in-peril self-defense. Killing never being acceptable under any circumstances seems, to me, to have the same logical flaw as total pacifism... if not all parties involved subscribe to the same belief, then one party is at a truly tragic disadvantage. If a person wants to believe that, I can respect it. It takes a lot of conviction to allow yourself to die for an ideal, and I can respect that sort of conviction. I do not, however, agree with it.

From: Sally Rosebud People, people, if you want longer or stiffer sentences for child molesters, you have got to take it up with the lawmakers! There is no life terms or death sentences for child molesters at this time! Just because we all find it reprehensible and unforgivable, the one thing we can all agree on, doesn't mean it is a capital offense. Bill O'Reilly has been campaigning for this ever since the murder of Jessica Lundsford. He's been trying to get Jessica's Law or Megan's Law enacted in all 50 states. http://www.foxnews.com/oreilly/-Kiamat Dusk

From: Kyrah Abattoir no matter what you did you still have one right, it is to live, cause killingsomeone for his crimes place you at a rank even lower than the said person, you justify a crime by hiding behind law when it's just a low level vengeance need ^ Gospel.

Kiamat, I really think you need to take a deep breath and take a step back from the forums for a bit. You are calling everyone who disagrees with you a liberal, when that may be far from the truth. You are making sweeping generalizations, making yet another topic with lots of grey areas black and white. Are you going to put to death a 12 y/o who molests a younger sibling?

As for the 12yo-it would depend on the severity of the crime and the individual. (ie, is he mentally retarded). I can tell you for certain, I'd have them locked up and watched very closely. But, if a 12yo was having sex with an infant on the internet--yeah, I'd fry that little bastard, too. -Kiamat Dusk

From: Kiamat Dusk You want me to take a break so I can stop taking you to task over your immorality. You want to get back to your moral relativistic, grey area, happy place. I'm calling these people Liberal because their actions clearly indicate they are. -Kiamat Dusk What immorality is that? Just because I don't think child molestation warrants the death penalty? Or is it my pro-choice stance that bothers you more?

Hmmmm....that's a tough call.... Your compassion for child molestors vs your utter lack thereof for unborn children... From: Sally Rosebud Kiamat, I really think you need to take a deep breath and take a step back from the forums for a bit. You are calling everyone who disagrees with you a liberal, when that may be far from the truth. You are making sweeping generalizations, making yet another topic with lots of grey areas black and white. Are you going to put to death a 12 y/o who molests a younger sibling? Kiamat does oversimplify, IMO. And some of the folks leaning to the far Left seem to me to have an equally unrealistic view. A twelve-year-old? Child sexual experimentation happens. It isn't always pretty, no. It sometimes winds up with a kid being hurt. Sometimes badly. It isn't the same as being a sexual predator. Not in the same ball game, not really the same sport... it's like comparing flag football to full-contact tackle played by NFL veterans. That twelve year old probably isn't going to go on to film himself raping an 18-month-old, trade that video to other pedophilic predators, and plan to do it over and over again. I trust that does not seem like a small difference? See, this is the thing that a lot of people don't seem to understand, about this issue. Yeah, sexual predators are sick. They're insane. They need help. They do deserve some compassion, because the roots of their illness often stem from childhood abuse that they themselves suffered. But they're also not going to change... there is no effective treatment for it. Even chemical castration does not prevent their harming another child, because the urge is not wholly sexual. Their rate of recidivism is astonishingly high... if you compare their sickness to an addiction, compare it to heroin. If they are imprisoned, even on a life sentence, they might eventually win parole or escape... and they are, by their very nature, compelled to find a victim that fits their preferred profile, and show that victim what Hell is like. So I'll phrase it this way: Sexual predators need a bullet. Is that better?

Nope, not any better. If you want maximum sentences changed you need to get in touch with your lawmakers. In case you hadn't noticed I think these criminals in particular should get the longest sentence available with no chance of parole, PLUS counselling.
