International Online Child Pornography Ring Busted

Wednesday, March 15, 2006

CHICAGO — Participants in an international Internet chat room transmitted live visuals of child molestation and traded thousands of pictures of child pornography, federal authorities said Wednesday in announcing charges against 27 people.

U.S. and international authorities have charged 27 people who took part in the Kiddypics & Kiddyvids chat room. The youngest child seen in pictures or video was less than 18 months old, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said in announcing the results of the 10-month investigation.

The defendants include Brian A. Annoreno of Chicago, who prosecutors say molested an infant and transmitted it live to a viewer in the Canadian city of Edmonton.

"The behavior in the chat room and the images sent around the world ... are the worst imaginable form of child pornography," Gonzales said at a news conference in Chicago.

Investigators identified seven children who were molested on the streaming video, Gonzales said. Four molesters are among those charged, prosecutors said.

Thirteen people have been indicted in nine states on charges that include possession, receipt, distribution and manufacture of child pornography. The states are: Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New York, North Carolina and Tennessee.

The other 14 have been charged in Australia, Canada and Britain. One person remains at large. The investigation began with an arrest in Edmonton last May.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a unit of the Homeland Security Department, led the U.S. investigation.

Undercover agents gained entry to the chat room and identified the 27 people, initially through their screen names, officials said.

DHS Assistant Secretary Julie Myers said investigators told her this case was among the worst they've seen. "It's hard to find cases more heinous than those that involve child molestation," Myers said.

Gonzales has made crimes against children and online pornography top priorities for the Justice Department.

Also Wednesday, the Justice Department said it has quadrupled prosecutions of human trafficking crimes when comparing the first five years of the Bush administration with the last five years of the Clinton administration.

There were 91 cases in which people were accused of forcing women and children to work in sweatshops or prostitution between 2001 and 2005, the department said in a new report. There were 109 people convicted in that period, more than twice as many as in the preceding five years.

Time to evict them from the planet before the ACLU steps in and gets them out of prison.

All that and the only thing you can think of is to get into the abortion issue again. Amazing. And you wonder why people call you morally bankrupt.

Fine. You're right. I'm not pro-life. I'm anti-abortion. Better?

No, I'm calling you a hypocrite. I did not even bring up abortion, you did. Oh btw, you shouldn't get the death penalty for pictures or even molestation. I'm not saying I in any way approve with what they were doing, I think it's sick and disgusting, and they should be punished to the greatest extent the law allows.

Actually, no, the death penalty exists for murder, under the theory that killing two people is better than killing one.

And to ensure the continued immorality, hypocrisy, and ineffectiveness of the American justice system.

Using this sort of thing to promote the death penalty and bash the ACLU, neither of which have any relevance to whether it happens or not... no, I'm not too keen on that.

yeah, please don't kill these child molesters, please, they can be rehabilitated and maybe draw pretty pictures, and write pretty poems in the future, or maybe even children's books. awwww. :}

it's one thing the world needs is more former and current infant molesters walking around, i mean after all, they're just humans, surely no human can be a monster, and i want all of them to be my friends. awwww, yay. :}

please insert M&M's up each of their asses, until they're dead.

Ummm I'm not saying they shouldn't be punished, they should be in jail for long periods of time, but they should also get counselling while in there, and no chance for parole. The death penalty should be only for extreme cases imo, and only after there is no doubt whatsoever that the person getting the death penalty is the person who comitted the crime.

I live in Edmonton, and when this hit the newspaper the other day I was so disgusted by what I read.. someone in my own city.

People like this predator need more than simply being thrown in jail.. sadly, it seems our Canadian society seems content on not implementing the death penalty.. this bastard deserves far worse.

So, what you're saying is-you're wishing rape and murder on some kid. That's so far over the line I can't even see you.

Soooo....the guy on video having sex with an infant doesn't qualify?
While they are "in jail for long periods of time" (can't even muster the will to say "life", eh?) my tax dollars are paying his cable bills.

But, I'd like to thank the SLefties for coming out en masse to prove why Liberals cannot be trusted with positions of power. Every single post shows how utterly out of touch you are with reality. Must be all the drugs you want legalized so badly.

Woah. I mean, just woah - that is one of the most nasty attempts to stifle opposing views I've ever seen on this forum, and I've seen a fair number of them. To hope that that happens to those that are of an opposite view to you shows a level or derangement that I think you might need help with.

Personally I've never agreed with the death penalty simply because I don't believe that justice is perfect, not by a long way. Not here in the UK and neither in the USA.

I find child abuse of any form totally reprehensible, but it doesn't justify the death penalty, nothing justifies that in my opinion.
Besides, the death penalty is too good for these fuckers, theyre not fit to socialise with other humans in my eyes and should be kept in solitary confinement for life.
Just my opinion as a parent.

no matter what you did you still have one right, it is to live, cause killingsomeone for his crimes place you at a rank even lower than the said person, you justify a crime by hiding behind law when it's just a low level vengeance need

So long as the ACLU exists, I don't trust "life" terms. Life is just longer for the ACLU to convince people that the criminals are the real victims here.

There's a line that you just don't cross-this is one of them.

Thankfully I live in a country where the death penalty is a historical curiousity.
Yes I realise it can be frustrating when a life sentence doesnt mean life, but as Kyrah says, the death penalty places the judiciary system of that country (state, or whatever) on a par with, or even lower than the perpetrator of the crime.
Why dont you focus your energy in campaigning in real life for the life sentence to mean life, instead of crying "string them up" on a forum read by a few hundred SL addicts?

Because I believe in the death penalty. I believe there are crimes for which you forsake your right to live. I believe there are people too dangerous to allow to continue to live. And I believe my taxes can be better spent elsewhere than paying to ensure such loathsome criminals can watch Dr. Phil every morning. That's why.

And in real life, my vote and my money go to support those who support the death penalty.
