Oh don't worry Coco, I undestand exactly how they work. It's exactly the same on the TSO Stratics forums. Can people please leave their baggage at the door? Is that too much to ask? If someone doesn't like what I create in Second Life, should I expect to be placated by other residents when I start a thread complaining about how some people don't like my stuff? Why the expectation that we should all be kissing each other's butts? The nice thing about SL is that unlike TSO we're not a bunch of 16 year olds. We're adults and we should be able to trake our lumps. If you put something out there, expect to have it criticized one way or the other. And for god's sake, don't whine about it when you don't get 5 stars. Grow up. _____________________

Hi Ingrid

Hi! Ingrid, You have great products. Thank you for all the help you gave me when I first got into SL, the great house you rented me, and all you have done. I now have my preimum account, have a small first land lot, which I have rented out, and have rented a very nice house from Mr. Neva who has been an outstanding landlord and has bent over backwards to help me with the property. SL Is Great!

Can people please leave their baggage at the door? Is that too much to ask? Yes it is entirely too much to ask. I don't live some secret fetish based life in an online environment, when I play computer games they live and act as me in avatar form. My personality comes out through them as I play. After all, if Jaundiced Wee didn't keep lugging his baggage in his continuing attacks at Coco, this thread wouldn't exist. Lewis _____________________

The rumpus is they are still on my case for daring to complain about the gaming of the stars thread rating system in classifieds that has been going on for the past few weeks now. Actually it's for going on and on and on and on and on and on about a subject that has throughly covered. You never did respond to my challenge to do something positive and proactive on this subject instead of ranting. This in addition to purposely rating my threads and classified product threads low just because they can. Which, ironically, proves my point. Or.. the people who 1-starred your threads and products know that it would get your goat. You said you don't care, but you keep posting about how much it upsets you. I would recommend getting a thicker skin if you are going to be a content creator... you can never please everyone, if something you made pleases you.. who cares about the rest? Looking outside for validation and confirmation of worth is doomed to disappointment. Look at the names of the ridiculers in this thread, Lewis, and others reading this. They run this game. They use derision and ridicule - en masse - to make fun of who they want to, because they disagree with that person's ideas. I've been re-reading your posts lately. You use the same tactics. If you want to claim the high moral ground, then you need to practice what you preach. THIS IS BECAUSE I SAID I THOUGHT THE STARS SHOULD BE TURNED OFF IN CLASSIFIED. No, I think it's because a fair number of people think you are a pain in the arse. Nothing to do with issues, just your delivery. _____________________

the freedom for anyone to create and sell content is being gamed such that there is a lot of mediocre and even ugly content out there! LL, please put a stop to letting just anyone rez a prim. for example look at other succesful games like WOW and There, where players cannot just upload a funy texture and sell tshirts. Thank you! surely this is a joke.. err, isn't it? quite amusing and very 1984 / brave new world / brazil - esque coming from a meta-justice-thingy officer which is built "To promote justice, fairness and resident rights in Second Life. To stand up for minorities. To protect the stake of those who invested their time, money and emotions into this Metaverse." ![]() .. exit stage left. |

This in addition to purposely rating my threads and classified product threads low just because they can. Which, ironically, proves my point. coco P.S. Look at the names of the ridiculers in this thread, Lewis, and others reading this. They run this game. They use derision and ridicule - en masse - to make fun of who they want to, because they disagree with that person's ideas. And they have free run of the forums to do so. In this particular case, they're making fun of my desire that the stars be turned off in the classifieds and my notions of equal opportunity for all. THIS IS BECAUSE I SAID I THOUGHT THE STARS SHOULD BE TURNED OFF IN CLASSIFIED. They don't believe I should be allowed to say such controversial, hideous things. So they respond with mass ridicule like the babies they are. They very much don't want me, Coco, to speak on these forums, or to persuade others, regarding fairness or anything. They care not for anyone's feelings but their own hyena-like amusement. They are like an abusive spouse one should leave. One sticks around for months on end in virtual disbelief that (a) people could actually be like this, rather than serious about ideas and respectful towards others' ideas, (b) that the Lindens allow it, and (c) that these particular individuals actually do run this game and these forums. But they do - and as such, they act as a very abusive spouse that ruins enjoyment of and participation in a marriage, or in this case, a game. I really don't think it is possible to speak on these boards without their approval, otherwise you come in for their RELENTLESS abuse. They aren't about to let go of a dribble of their group power. It sucks. And I'm willing to tell everyone that this is the way it is. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=6674829&dopt=Abstract |

I didn't start the thread because some people don't like my stuff. Please. I have been selling "stuff" in the real world for long enough to have already a very thick skin towards fair critique. The thread was started because the star system sucks. People who advertise in the Classifieds know this. coco _____________________

The thread was started because the star system sucks. People who advertise in the Classifieds know this. Unfortunately the forum software doesn't allow the thread ratings feature to be disabled so we're stuck with it. The only other option would be to get rid of classifieds altogether, which LL tried to do, but popular demand made them decide to leave them. It is was it is. People who rate others low just to be mean suck, but since there's nothing we can do about it, debating it isn't particularly useful. _____________________

Nothing to do with issues, just your delivery. Surreal, I haven't responded to your suggestions because I haven't gotten around to giving them the serious consideration they deserve. (And may not, at this point.) I did notice, though, that you were the only one who gave any good ideas about what to do about the Classifieds situation. Yes, they do it to get my goat - which proves my point about the Classifieds. Half the people IN there are doing it to get each others' goat - and to ruin the competition. This is particularly prevalent (sp?) in the fashion section. That may not matter to the people who trashed my thread on the subject, but it DOES matter to other people. As for this "fair number of people" who think I am "a pain in the arse," I know who they are and I really don't care. The tactics of derision and mockery, in place of actual intellectual discourse, has gotten way more than tired by this point. This idea of trying to appeal to me to give up the things I care about, and the priciples I stand for, because the same certain names in thread after thread have decided I'm a pain won't work. I couldn't care less. I don't respect these people anymore, so that won't work. coco P.S. Chip, the forum software DOES enable them to disable ratings, on a forum by forum basis, simply by clicking "no." Check out vbulletin.com for confirmation of this. _____________________

I don't know how to link in the forums! (Which is one reason I never started a blog.)
If you go there and put "rate a thread" in the search, you will find thread after thread after thread where the vbulletin people tell how to click "no" on it. You will also find threads where people are asking for the ability to do this throughout the site with one click, but apparently it has to be done on a forum by forum basis. coco _____________________

Yes; as you will notice, people will attack you and will attempt to derail this thread because they can't have a conversation about the issue. It's a well-seasoned tactic by some forum dwellers. |

Remember how, in grade school, you couldn't give a Valentine to just the kid you had a crush on and your actual friends? If you wanted to give a card to anyone you cared about, you would also be required to spend money on and give an expression of caring ("BEE MINE!"
to every single kid in the class, even the one who tried to cheat off your quiz and got you in trouble, or the guy who threatened to beat you up if you didn't hand over your milk money, or the girl who would cry and wail, "It's not FAIIIIIIIIIIR!" like a preschooler when she didn't like what her mom gave her for lunch and you wouldn't trade.I think Second Life should be *just* *like* *that* You know, "fair." I think, if you give any thread five stars, you should have to give EVERY thread five stars. Because "fairness" is more important than honesty and useful communication. _____________________
