I just got off the phone with the Vatican, guys. I have some good news or some bad news, depending on your point of view.
The guy from the Pope's office -- really nice fellow by the name of Colantoni -- told me, basically, that since entering the 21st century, it's not really the Church's purview to officially persecute the sexual liberty of others. I explained to him that all I wanted him to do was initiate an inquisition like they did back in the day, but he claims they just don't do that anymore. When I asked to speak with his supervisor, he informed me that the Lord is his supervisor, and that I didn't need a telephone to address Him.
Fair enough.
So, I'm afraid there's no narrow-minded backup on the way to ensure this terrible breach is rectified. I left a message with someone who works in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, but still no call back. She's not actually a quaker herself, nor does she know any, but she said once they have the costumes and can teach us how to arrange a proper 1600's-style rejection of sexual independence.
So we'll see how this pans out. In the mean time, hold strong!

From: Lewis Nerd ....... or at least a group with a name and a subject that wouldn't have caused so much uproar.
Lewis Actually most of the "uproar" has been a small number of people, yourself included - overall, they have gotten a tremendous amount of support in this decision here.

From: Cocoanut Cookie I really, REALLY don't know what your problem is, Moopf, either on this thread or on the now-closed one. coco Interesting, I don't believe I posted on the now-closed thread, did I? Nope, just did a search and I didn't. But basically I just hate hypocrites and your comment about not being suprised about the support for this from men is astoundingly hypocritical coming from somebody who has complained numerous times about the percieved sexism in comments that may, or may not, have been directed at them. You want to pigeon-hole people? I can do that as well. I think you're an interfering busy-body who often thinks that everything is aimed at them and, if you had your way, nothing would ever happen because it would just get talked about ad infinitum because nothing would ever be right. Oh and you have an over-inflated sense of entitlement to boot. There's another person who's posting a lot on this thread who's a hyprocrite as well, but I gave up trying to reason with them a long time ago.

From: Cristiano Midnight Your comment was sexist, Cocoanut, the very thing you complain about. "Do as I say, not as I do."

From: Lewis Nerd So you're complaining about a film that has an "18" rating, just like SL has?
The film was comedy entertainment. Somewhat dated after 25 years, sure... but unless the "Revenge of the Nerds" stars open an official inworld presence and fan club (rather than just a surname being used amongst many available to me and others at the time), I don't see your parallel.
Maybe if you took a step back you'd see I'm not against people enjoying porn if that is their choice, any more than I'm woried that you happen to not like a film I find amusing (if, of course, you'd actually seen the film in full you'd realise theres a lot more than a few 'mild erotic' scenes and it actually has quite a strong storyline about nerd persecution and how brains always beats brute strength in the end, that is quite an inspiration.
We are talking about the principle of LL choosing specifically to work with a porn site - LL approached them, not the other way around - so kindly stick to that rather than attacking my choice in entertainment.
Lewis Sorry. I read this comment of yours and got confused: " It seems that as a straight, Christian, non-furry male who has no interest in the sleazy side of life...". For someone with no interest in things "sleazy", your apparent idolation of the lead character of what I (and likely many "moral" people) would consider a sleezy movie - and your choosing your avatar's name for him - has me baffled. On the one hand you profess to being a moral Christian so offended by the presence of these people that you say, " I don't plan on interfering in whatever they want to do in game, as long as they stay out of my way" (that would be simple avatars we're talking about) yet you think nothing of watching and endorsing a movie with nudity, simulated sex, lewd and lascivious behavior, and gross/immature banter. So let's correct something here, you're talking about the "principle" of LL choosing to work with what you consider a "porn site". As evidenced by the posts on these threads, not everyone defines it the same as you and many here don't believe the actions of LL is anyone's business but their own.

From: Moopf Murray Interesting, I don't believe I posted on the now-closed thread, did I? Nope, just did a search and I didn't. It's cool, Moopf. I used to get that all the time. Thread in which I'd never even shown my face and someone would IM me like "Dude, she just called you out and you didn't even post there." It has something to do with everyone not agreeing being a They. As for the rest of your post, I would encourage you to father my children.

From: Cocoanut Cookie Well, you know, why didn't they just start with SOMEBODY ALREADY HERE!! Like the furry group, for instance, or the elves or whatever. Wouldn't those people like a last name of their own, too? Not to mention the land? And I don't buy this stuff about, "We're trying out a new thing, regarding people in a community choosing their own last name." Ridiculous. They could have tried that out with someone already here. They have, as already detailed with a number of Universities (IE, the last name "Pitt" and such) and various well-known individuals (Jaron Lanier, Kevin Werbach). Lewis, wouldn't you agree that Universities are hardly contraversial? Regards, -Flip

From: Enabran Templar /me waggles his eyebrows suggestively Do that on web cam and you could have your own site, and in turn, eventually, your own custom SL last name. I vote for Waggle.

From: Cocoanut Cookie since it is no longer just what people do in SL, but what the Lindens are actively promoting, applauding, and giving special benefits to. coco I'm still looking for the sources for all these facts you're posting. Where is the "active" promotion? Where is the "applause"? And can you outline the "special benefits"? I'd honestly like to see where you're getting your information to concretely post these statements. Thank you (#2)

Thank you (#2) Sources for facts just get in the way of trying to get an opinion across! Don't you know that? I'm still waiting for replies to any of my points. Nothing forthcoming, surprise surprise. I enjoy lively debate, but when people refuse to address points raised in debate and stick heads in the sand, its leads to flame wars instead of good debate. :-| What eats at me is that the most decent, moral Christians I know don't wear it on their sleeves and find it offensive when people do. When people start sentences by saying, "Well, I'm a <insert religion here>", they think I'm hearing "I have the moral high ground here". What I'm hearing in reality is, "I use my religion to justify my bad behavior instead of actually living my life morally by its teachings." But that's another topic. Judge not lest ye be judged! Cristiano, can we start posting pictures of gorillas and stuff yet? Regards, -Flip
