No apoplexy here. I thought it was quite clear in my post that I didn't expect her to date gay men. My only objection is the inference that gay men are not real men. You'll also note, if you reread my post, that her method of bringing race into the discussion was worrysome as well.

Kudos, Groucho. The person who posted after you didn't get your point apparently, but I did. Notice also, everyone, how it's (somewhat) okay to single out gay people, but a post that singles out specific races, and even then ONLY to make a point, is unacceptable.

Torley, this thread STARTED OUT with overtones of intolerance. You can't honestly be worried that it might "stray" there, can you? I mean, seriously!

So because the op isn't open to dating all males, including ones who are only interested in dating other men or want to date other men a well a women she's intolerant?!

The only intolerance in this thread has come from the oversensitive, over PC people in this thread who have branded this woman a homophobe and worse simply for stating the type of guy she's looking to meet. Just about everyone who has responded here seemed to be willing to write off the original post (and perhaps your first few posts, Kiamat) as simple ignorance. It would have blown over in the first page if there had just been a simple apology admitting that the post was impulsive, poorly thought-out and that she didn't really mean what she was so clearly inferring.

But no, she (and you) decided to turn the thread into something that is so mind-numblingly stupid in its defiance of simple logic, even just plain old common sense. For the nth time in the thread you've championed the cause of this poor girl who apparently is being continually harrassed by gay men trying to force her into dating them. Is that really such a serious problem in SL? Gay men stalking innocent hetero girls.

The inference in the first post was 100% clear and you can prove that to yourself when you substitute race for sexual orientation, as I did above.


Maybe, if the women posting their profiles are as bigoted or clueless as the OP. Wouldn't it have accomplished the same goal for her to post "woman seeking good man for monogamous relationship". Doesn't that kind of rule out those she is hoping to avoid, without inferring that gays or bisexuals are not "good" and not "real men"?

This is not a discussion, as far as I'm concerned. As Groucho pointed out, you need only substitute racial groups for the words "gay" and "bisexual" to see the very obvious problem. I'm not going to dignify you with an argument because at this point you're either incapable of understanding (I doubt it), too driven by your own agenda to see the obvious (possible), or too determined not to be wrong to ever give up, no matter how obviously wrong you know in your heart you in fact are (very likely).

In all three of those cases, any effort I make is going to fall on deaf ears, so why bother at all? It's a little like arguing with someone who insists that 2+2 doesn't equal 4. If the self-evident nature of it isn't enough, what argument could you hope to convince the person with?

The vast majority of people clearly see the problem, and that will do.

No, actually nothing like that. That is neither an admission nor an apology for her original bigoted post. Her statement about black men is completely irrelevant. Her original post says nothing about her preferences other than that she doesn't consider gay men good or even "real men". On that she is very clear.

As Alex says, you fail at logic. And you obviously just aren't even trying to understand the complaint about her original post.

But since you brought it up, I find her comment on black/white equally as humorous and possibly as damning as her original. I can only imagine the poor girl carrying on a SL relationship with a "good", "real man" (who is absolutely not gay!) and then being crushed to find out that he was black in real life. Wouldn't that be a pity?

This is the General forum. In the personal section of the classifieds your statement might make some sense. In this forum, however, one who expects to be able to post without garnering a reaction or comment from all sorts of people (even a straight, white, real woman such as myself) is a fool.

"Real" men and even "Real" women aren't in SL. They are at a RL social gathering of some sort waiting for you to go meet them and go talk to them! To me SL is just a game! It's a game that has gotten so wrapped up in itself that people cant distinguish between RL and SL. People use SL to live out their lives and actually think that the AV is them! They put unwarrented RL emotions and stresses into SL that are completely and utterly irelevent. I had a fight with a Gf I met in SL and we broke up because of what I did in SL. She treated it as if it was RL and we had a serious RL fight that ultimately led to our break up!! I seriously couldn't phathom that we actually had a fight about SL that led to our breakup. It has gotten so perverse to the point that people cant determine what is real and what is not real (SL). To me this is completely pathetic and sad that a lot of us are mental slaves to SL with its grip of trickery and deception into thinking that what takes place in SL has the worth of RL. I even wouldn't use SL to gain RL money! Then to me it wouldnt be a game anymore!
I play SL to have fun! Seriousness or RL has no place in SL for me!

Yes the person sitting behind the computer playing SL is real but everything that takes place in SL in NOT real!!
So If you want a real man then go find that real man that is sitting behing the computer and stop using SL as your relationship catalist!
