No you fail at logic because you continue to fail at understanding the most simple inferences. It looks like we can both agree that she doesn't consider gay men to be "real men" (or possibly even "good men"  . Whew, at least we're getting somewhere.Now, do you really think that "by her standards" absolves her of any bias or bigotry? That is simply inherent in the concept of prejudice and discrimination. Let's look at these statements and see if you can figure out which are offensive and which are not: a) "I don't like black men." b) "I'm not sexually attracted to dark skinned men." c) "Black men are not real men, in my opinion." d) "I don't find black men attractive." e) "I'm looking for a good man. Not a black man." f) "I would never date a black man. It's okay for you, however." I use black instead of "bisexual" because people are more attuned to picking up racial bias and haven't clued into other forms of bigotry. Also, it is slightly more plausible that the lack of "attraction" is based on something other than prejudice. Yes, I do take it very personally. I am extremely offended when people abuse logic and language so badly. If it's not a "gay" thing then why even mention it in a phrase like "gay or otherwise"? How about just "no one mentioned it", and then you don't have to worry about which posters are gay and which are not. Uh, one of my first posts addressed exactly the "race issue" (surprisingly it was an independent thought and not based on your brilliant insight) and at every point i've tried to make this a discussion on logic and ridiculously misplaced prejudice, not just a gay thing. And some of my best friends are negroes and they'll be the first to tell you that I'm no racist. QED? Riiight. I can only slap labels on you based on what you post. Maybe your poor choices in this thread are not indicative of your real personality and I'm sure your good friends will understand. I personally don't think you're particularly biased against gays. You show the same insensitivity to every group. We're just going to keep going around and around on this. I understand how you found the post to be offensive. I can truly see it from your POV. I disagree, but I certainly see how it could be taken that way. However: 1. I think it's better just to shake your head in pity and move on when confronted with such things by an individual. 2. Bigotted or not, she doesn't owe anyone an apology. But that's just me. I understand why you're upset, I don't agree, but I understand. I missed the posts where they went to great lengths to prove that they were, in fact, real men. I DID see the ones where they expressed offense and where other people, not themselves gay men, agreed, but I must have missed the posts you read altogether. |

Commenting on such offensive behavior gives the offender a chance to explain and/or stop themselves from repeating the offense. I don't know of any gay men offhand, but I do know of a lesbian couple that celebrated the first anniversary their SL partnership recently, as well as a couple of other lesbian couples in the sims. Just because a sim is Victorian or steampunk in theme hardly means that it shares the same social bigotry that the actual Victorian era had. RPing a certain era hardly means that one shares the same prejudices the actual era held. As to whether or not it "matters," I don't know. Does it matter if most of society still regards women as unequals, as wombs on legs, as simply the mommy and the housekeeper? How about taking some unpleasant stereotypes from the past (and, sadly, the present) and ask yourself how you would feel if most people saw you as beneath them simply because of how you were born. |

I guess it's just me... I honestly don't give a flying fig. The first guy I dated in SL, generally presents hirself in SL as a lesbian. I could see through this easily (being RL female helps with that) and I still did not mind. Because she has been a true friend in every way. And did eventually tell me her situation anyway. And damn, her female avie is HAWT. (you know who you are The second guy I dated in SL, I knew to be male because he had been DJ at a club I was at. Also has a very nice voice I think.... and easily one of the most effortlessly butch avatars I've ever met. This is all wonderful, but both of these guys are dear to me, you see. The third guy I dated in SL, seems quite masculine, but I have no proof, I'm sure if he sees this he'll be rolling around on the floor laughing, he knows, of course. LOL Am I atypical to not care in the slightest whether the avie and the player have the same gender? Or is it my by bi bias showing? LOL |

Logically, it is ridiculous that people care whether the person controlling the avie is male, female, bisexual, black, white, etc. But they do. We all do, actually. Just some have managed to overcome (or at least suppress) their prejudices better than others. Unless they are looking for a RL connection, but if that's the case they should make that very clear before starting any "relationship." |
