I'm a roleplayer, but I'm not RPing in SL, just having fun.

As a roleplayer I don't really mind if your avatar is one gender and you turn out to be another gender. Besides, when one is a GM in a tabletop RPG one has to play *everything* (men, women, cars, computers, animals) ... and SL is one big 24/7 masquerade, let everyone be whoever or whatever they want (be a table lamp if you want).

But just like Jonquille, I won't be happy if one foists lies when speaking about their real self. It would be better to not bring it up at all.

In some MMOGs I've played I see people hitting on others completely forgetting that the person on the other end may be of a different gender from the avatar. I hear of females playing male avatars just so they can play in peace and not get hit on. In my vincinity such behavior is not uncommon enough for my tastes.

I also don't care if someone is playing another gender, ethnicity, age.. etc etc. Makes no difference to me at all.

However, if someone is going on with elaborate 'RL' stories and then turns out to be someone completely different, I would most likely write them off. Not because of their gender, but because I don't care to hang out with liars. I don't ask for personal information, so there's no reason to make it up other than enjoying lying.

I agree completely. Once it goes RL you have an ethical obligation to inform the other party.

I guess it's just me...

I honestly don't give a flying fig.

The first guy I dated in SL, generally presents hirself in SL as a lesbian. I could see through this easily (being RL female helps with that) and I still did not mind. Because she has been a true friend in every way. And did eventually tell me her situation anyway. And damn, her female avie is HAWT. (you know who you are ;)

The second guy I dated in SL, I knew to be male because he had been DJ at a club I was at. Also has a very nice voice I think.... and easily one of the most effortlessly butch avatars I've ever met. This is all wonderful, but both of these guys are dear to me, you see.

The third guy I dated in SL, seems quite masculine, but I have no proof, I'm sure if he sees this he'll be rolling around on the floor laughing, he knows, of course. LOL

Am I atypical to not care in the slightest whether the avie and the player have the same gender?
Or is it my by bi bias showing? LOL

I'm with you Brenda. To me personally, its irrelevant. I do think that decieving people that it *does* matter to is wrong no matter what gender-combination is wrong.

Sl relationships are like RL relationships in that one set of standards does not apply to all relationships. Myself, I accept that whatever a person presents in SL is what they want me to see and I take or leave people on their own merits. I'm not looking to take a realationship beyond SL - so as long as I like the other person, everything is fine :-)

And I'm lucky enough to have someone in--world that I like VERY much, so this is not a big issue for me

I'm still wondering where the good women are.

I doubt I'm one, but that's because I think I'm loopy.

LOL - some of the most interesting women I have met have been loopy. :)

Lol does she know that gay men arn't sexually interested in straight women?! By definition (like dictionary). Yes, I'd like to be fairly obvious to obviously obvious OP posts.

Just put on your profile that you are a lesbian

More straight men will IM you trying to get you to go out with them then you can count.

=p

God she's SO right. Some men Love a Challenge, and see my sexuality as the Mount Everest of Dating. I Like men, I just Don't have any desire for them. ;)

But then, the Original Question was a Search for GOOD men. The Good ones Don't try to make of you something you are Not.

Keep looking Ma Chere, and Don't "Settle" or "Make Do".
There Are good ones out there.

Angel.

Frankly, "real" and "good" men are probably not what you are looking for. Many "real" and "good" men are gay or bi, and all "real" and "good" men are not abusive neanderthals.

Try this: go have some fun doing what you like to do. You will, no doubt, meet tons of wonderful people (men and women) as a delightful side effect.

I'm not sure if i folow you here. But my uinderstand is that you say that the decent guys are
A) gay
B) non existent
C) not extremely abusive...

I'm don't know your history, but that is simply not true.

cheers

Bah, we all know the simple facts about women online:

Theyre either, RL married, or they're men.

As far as men go:
We're all sluts :D

I'm here, but I'm married. (in RL)

Sorry.

I got my old name back, but I'm still a good man and still married.

Sorry.
