From: Csven Concord I spoke with an SG member yesterday (prior to posting my blog entry on this). She was very polite and looked like most female avatars. Big surprise. I'm unaware of any deals. Can someone provide a link? I'm only aware of the curious land arrangement. What land arrangement? coco

From: Enabran Templar I'll post a post-mortem at SLU once this thread has kicked off, degenerated, and been locked. Impress me, folks. Gimme a bunch of Cs!
I'm a C type. I like to look good, but I don't do it to lure in zee males because I happen to like the freedom of being single. I'm just happy with how I look, I dress for me. No, that doesn't say that I think people who aren't/don't are ashamed of something, just stating one female perspective here. As for the SG, I've never heard of them until now, and would probably join because it sounds interesting. Do I think it's promoting the objectification of women? People display or highlight the female body and related for a whole lot of reasons, IMHO, not all of them discriminatory or derogitory to women. Playboy does not offend me, those women make money and aren't doing it against their will or anything. I believe that if you wear a short skirt or show some cleavage, don't get pissed when men wolf whistle or their eyes wander. It's just... a thing, ya know? Anyway. Maybe one of the SG should chime in here to tell their perspective, instead of assumptions being made about how this and that hurts the status of women or if LL is capitalizing on whatever they're being accused of capitalizing on. Welcome to Second Life, Suicide Girls. Don't underestimate the Second Life residents! Some of us are pretty interesting too, as this thread is beginning to illustrate. Good luck and I hope you are all happy here.

From: Ingrid Ingersoll *hands you pie and beer. *flashes some tit to get a custom last name and possibly some virtual land. There's not a word of this that if I put you in front of these girls in real life you would have the cohones repeat to them. Your viewpoint is becoming clear, but you're also disrespecting some people you've never even met. My first impression of the thread is that you were on the fence, but now there's some green tinting your recent posts. Regardless, to quote Bill McNeal, though, "Show me a woman who isn't jealous of another woman... And I'll show you a man." It's the 21st century, Ingrid. Time to grow an open mind. Or at least get comfortable with yourself.

Why would I? I have no problem with them. I do have a problem with the porn industry for lots of reasons and companies who capitalize from it. From: Enabran Templar Your viewpoint is becoming clear
So is yours, sadly. Dismiss me as an insecure, raving feminist if you must. That would be much easier, wouldn't it?

From: Ingrid Ingersoll So is yours, sadly. I just asked the missus (who is really hot) if my viewpoint is okay. She approves. Then again, she has a little crush on Jenna Jameson, so she's not as closed-minded as many women.

From: Ingrid Ingersoll Founder: Wilder Linden Well, that answers why the SL Hacks Book group has been so quiet lately. That also answers any unanswered questions I had about the book. Scratch that! Ask any unanswered questions here! Post your hacks too!

From: Enabran Templar I'm still a little at a loss as to discover the OFFICIAL LINDENLAB/SUICIDE GIRLS alliance.
As far as I can tell, some of the SG lasses wanted a presence here, Linden Lab is a bunch of open minded folks and welcome them with open arms.
What's the big deal? Hmm you're probably right, it was just a bunch of them eager to go into SL together and they told LL (for some reason), and LL gave them a special last name for the heck of it. And then these 49 models (all excitedly to start playing SL), some odd 30 of which never have seemed to log on. Now this has been going for a week or so, and i'd assume that if they all wanted to be in SL, they'd log on atleast once. So I have to say that there was some pact to get some Suicide girls into SL for publicity. I'm not really aching about the fact that there's another 49 wannabe hoochie-goth/emo/punk girls in SL (we already have about 40,000 after all), more that LL didn't really give any notice (that I saw anyways) of a pact with a porn site. And furthermore, of all the places LL can go for this they go to a porn site? That kinda officially makes LL a sex game now (as it was just unofficially one before), why not a 3D mappers site? Or an artists site? or a coder's site? or anything that actually applies to the medium of SL. And honestly, I doubt the claims that were positively ejaculated on to the group profile, about how they're oh so creative, intelligent, trendy, and beautiful. They may be the last two, but the first two i'd have to see for myself.

OK, as far as I can tell from everything here, the only "pact" involved was giving this group a special name. And I suppose only the members of that group can have that name.

coco Well getting the special name was just a small part of it, the big part of it here would seem to be getting suicide girl models to play SL. Hence the reason why there's members who seem to have never logged in but are in a group already

Shit, I just read that the Whopperettes are coming to SL. This is just getting out of hand. Not more women who are prretty! We need to start forbidding women from joining. That's obviously the only solution.

Suicide Girls is a porn site. Just because there is a part of geek culture that considers girls with large tattoos and many piercings "cool", and those geeks consider themselves "cool" does not change it being a porn site. Different men and women have different fetishes. Some guys like big breasted women, some like those with lots of body hair. And of course they consider women in that style "cool". Being "open minded" usually has got little to do with those preferences. The fact that these girls or their fanboys consider this style non-conformist, which is pathetic , does not change it being a porn site. The fact that these girls present themselves as liberal, powerful, independent and "just do it for fun/expression or their sexual personalities" does not change it being a porn site. When have you last seen a profile on a big boobie site where the girls are complaining about being oppressed? There are many reasons to dislike porn, especially when you are a woman. Presenting "awww you are only insecure because you think you can't compete with that cool broad" as the only possible reason is rude. It can be an act of self defense of course. If you can not dismiss a negative attitude towards porn with an easy excuse you would have to start thinking, why porn might be a bad thing. That would be uncool, of course.

LL hungrily chasing after porn sites' users, or grasping at cashing in by association with any sort of hollow cachet they might possess feels somehow... sadly desperate.
