From: Pol Tabla Frankly, I got super-tired of people valuing me only for my hunky pixel arrangement. Hello! There's a brain behind the eye candy, people! It's the whole Barbara Bush thing you've got going on - it drives the ladies wild.

Well, all I know about the Suicide Girls is that they'd fit in really well here, there's already tons and tons of people in SL who look just like them.
To whether the Suicide girls are really the "intelligent strippers" i'd have to talk to one of them first, but I highly doubt that i'll be seeing any of them inworld. If they don't like the game itself, then they're not going to like all the horny suicide girls fans IMing them constantly "how muc 4 sexxx????" or "plz give pics!!!!".
Either way, i'm not too impressed that LL got this deal with them, it's something of an admission that SL is run by the sex industry. Which albeit maybe true, we don't need to make it official.

coco Eh apparently some Lindens made a deal with Suicidegirls.com (some nude webcam girls site) and gave them all free accounts with the last name Suicide, I don't know what LL is getting in return (well then again basic accounts are free) or if they have any other benefits besides getting a custom last name.

From: Khamon Fate The perception bouncing off the back of my head lately is that the ultimate goal of Linden Lab is, always has been, to corner the Internet 3D entertainment market. It's all very cleverly couched in layers of "building strong communities" and "facilitating educational efforts." But those lofty ideas have never mapped to what they were actually doing.
Everything, such as the order of feature development and release, seems to fall neatly into place though if what they're doing is building a centralized 3D entertainment system. This'll take some more churning, the original post just resparked the thought after a few days of screaming and chasing down unruly hardware. Gotta get a bigger bat. psst ok Khamon what exactly are the suicide girls? I saw it in a lindens profile a couple of days ago and their discription of this group it was a tad vague. Basicaly the name is horrid so I pretty much stopped looking. Apparently however they are a rl group of some sort. Cat

Wait...are these the same girls that look like they landed in whitewash, had an epileptic fit while applying mascara, and lost a fighht with a broken curling iron?
If that's supposed to be considered sexy, I know a few psych wards that are just crammed full of inmate...errr.....models.

google it. or : http://suicidegirls.com/ not seeing suicide girls as sex symbols (though sex is involved), but rather as a lot of young, independent, strong minded, intelligent (sometimes), lovely (sometimes, it's a judgement call here) women who aren't afraid to be above and beyond the shame/embarrassment/whatever of being very sexual beings. Non-conformists who, lets face it, are conforming to a type anyway Some part of me wishes I was that brave (and young, heh). As to them being in SL: 1) so what? and 2) why not? and 3) surprised they weren't here already... As to LL using them to promote SL: we all have a different vision of what SL is. For a major part of the population, SL is sex. No use hiding it. These girls scream it to a certain population of (probably) men...meaning they'll probably bring MORE MEN into SL. Gotta admit I don't get the "Suicide" part of the whole thing though. Reading more later.

It's a bunch of (mostly) attractive broads showing off their pleasant curves in unusual settings and non-mainstream clothing. Some of it is pretty hot.
So we're going to be seeing three types of posters in this thread. Everyone play along at home and see if you can pick them out yourselves!
Type A: Female. Has some insecurities. Sees a bunch of hot ass and makes up a bunch of nasty about said hot ass because it bothers her that the dudes will be impressed by the hot ass. What if they're not impressed by her own hot ass? Oh my!
Type B: Male. Lies about enjoying porn. Probably has SG bookmarked, but will decry this as a nasty, tasteless act of selling out.
Type C: Everyone else who is threatened neither by hot ass nor by their own sexuality. Naughty bits do not terrify these people. They're down with our new goth/punk, sexy neighbors. Or at the least are indifferent.
Oh, and they're not cam girls. Cam girls sit in front of grainy web cams and show their parts in exchange for horny dudes buying them things off of wishlists. In the internet hierarchy of titillation, the Suicide Girls rank vastly higher than cam girls.
I'll post a post-mortem at SLU once this thread has kicked off, degenerated, and been locked. Impress me, folks. Gimme a bunch of Cs!

They gave them all accounts?
All basic accounts are free.
You must mean that what they got was just this special last name?
Lacking any links or any answer to my first question, I looked on the Suicide Girls site and googled it earlier in combination with SL, and also found a thread about them in the well wishes forum, or something.
But I could find nothing indicating any kind of a deal between the Lindens and the Suicide Girls, or any kind of getting them to promote SL. You must mean - they just gave them this last name, with the idea that they would maybe talk about SL on their website.
Right?

Thank you Enabram for that brilliant and insightful labelling of people who have a slight problem with the objectification of women as sex symbols, and companies who use the objectification of women as sex symbols to make a fast buck. Please see my real life pic, please find out what I do for a living, please get to know me before you categorize me as a Type A insecure female. THANKS!

I'll have to take your word for it. Clearly my definition of 'hot' doesn't include crossing circus paint with a rivet gun. But to each their own I guess. From: someone Oh, and they're not cam girls. Cam girls sit in front of grainy web cams and show their parts in exchange for horny dudes buying them things off of wishlists. In the internet hierarchy of titillation, the Suicide Girls rank vastly higher than cam girls. I took a few minutes to browse through the site. One thing I'll say is that it is professionally done, and very well targets a specific demographic. I also noticed the member's area links and the ads plastered to join up for a fee. It looked to me like a thinly veiled theme site that tries to pretend to have a higher standard than a cam girls site. If they rank higher somehow than cam girls, it's only because they manage to have people pay without really showing off the wares. The only real question is, where the heck is LL getting their marketing demographics, to think that this would be their target audience? - Newfie

I spoke with an SG member yesterday (prior to posting my blog entry on this). She was very polite and looked like most female avatars. Big surprise.
I'm unaware of any deals. Can someone provide a link? I'm only aware of the curious land arrangement.

Anyway, these women don't have guns to their heads. Some people are comfortable flaunting their sexuality. Others not so much. Don't judge the choices of others just because you wouldn't be comfortable making them yourself.

The thing that bugs me about this whole thing is that there has been a lot of scandal lately surrounding the SG company - and it is a company, not just a loosely-organized bunch of alt-punk-pierced-goth-whateverposesasbeingconformistlynonconformistandubercoolthesedays females who like to post their pictures online. At least 40 of their models have left the SG site in a big huff over various disputes ranging from (but not limited to): being lied to about who really runs the company (a man, not a woman as has been widely proclaimed); not being paid for their work according to their contracts; being poorly treated by the owner (several former members have classified said owner as a "misogynist" in several articles I've read); and having their pictures posted on hardcore porn sites when they were told they wouldn't be used in that format.
If LL thinks that partnering with a porn site is in its best marketing interest, hey, good for them; lots of people use porn, and I've been known to take a gander myself occasionally. But make no mistake -- this is a porn site that makes money, not some "female empowerment," feel-good, psuedo-feminist company out to advance women. It is a porn site. A brilliantly marketed porn site, but a porn site, nonetheless.
(For two articles on this subject and the SG scandal, check out the February issues of Bust and Spin magazines which should be on bookstore or supermarket shelves near you!)

I'm still a little at a loss as to discover the OFFICIAL LINDENLAB/SUICIDE GIRLS alliance.
As far as I can tell, some of the SG lasses wanted a presence here, Linden Lab is a bunch of open minded folks and welcome them with open arms.
What's the big deal?

From: Enabran Templar I'm still a little at a loss as to discover the OFFICIAL LINDENLAB/SUICIDE GIRLS alliance. You're exactly right, Enabran. No one has stated unequivocally that LL has some sort of official partnership with SG.com or not (beyond the fact that a Linden belongs to their group, conferring some sort of, um, for lack of a better word, "blessing" . And even if they all have the same last name, who knows, maybe they paid LL to all have the same last name. (I wonder if that's an option, for large groups who come in together? Hmmm.) Maybe a Linden would like to comment; that would be nice and helpful.
