Who is Catherine? I don't know any Catherine in this thread. I hope you're not outing personal details again. The one you called Marcat, in the same post where you called her shrill. coco _____________________

I am looking around for references where "shrill" is applied to women, and I can't find any. I'm not saying that Shrill is solely applied to males ... I am sure if I keep looking I will find SOME references to women. But a preliminary search is only finding references to shrill GROUPS, or shrill MEN. Some more examples:
It's applied to Robert Rubin http://www.topplebush.com/article111_recpres.shtml Daniel W. Drezner Get's Shrill http://www.j-bradford-delong.net/movable_type/2005-3_archives/001662.html A silly one-liner describes Senator Harry Reid as shrill http://www.samefacts.com/archives/_/2005/11/sen_reid_is_shrill.php _____________________

A silly one-liner describes Senator Harry Reid as shrill http://www.samefacts.com/archives/_/2005/11/sen_reid_is_shrill.php Correct me if I'm wrong, here, Aimee, but I believe that Dingey Harry is actually a male. Is that correct? _____________________

Correct me if I'm wrong, here, Aimee, but I believe that Dingey Harry is actually a male. Is that correct? Yes they are all males. I can't find a reference to Shrill Women (though I am sure they are out there as I don't believe the term is gendered.) _____________________

Yes they are all males. I can't find a reference to Shrill Women (though I am sure they are out there as I don't believe the term is gendered.) This is very troubling. You see, I am not university educated as Cocoanut is, only having attended a lowly private college, nor am I paid professionally for my writing, so I am loathe to contradict the obviously expert opinion shared by the esteemed Koala. Yet, you have provided numerous pieces of evidence that directly contradict Cocoanut's assertion. Given my lack of university education, I am unable to draw conclusions beyond this, although I now wonder just what people are getting from such institutions if the result is shrill, contradictory writing. (omg I said it again oh snap) _____________________

New meaning to the old saying, "what goes round, come's round". That is truly fantastic. Given that you're the authority, I urge you to have the final word on this entire situation. And... go! _____________________

I'm not sure if a situation like this has been mentioned before or not. I travelled incognito to one of the Wells Fargo islands and played around for awhile. My inventory included the always present Linden Library folder. I was able to attach one of the Atoll walkways to my head and hide underwater, thereby creating a new dock structure on the Wells Fargo Island that surprised a few folks when it began to move on it's own. I know... pathetic waste of time. But it was interesting to see what the boundaries were. One of the folks from Spinning Media (?) IM'd me while I was there and asked me how I was able to build on their island. I told him about being able to attach objeccts from my inventory to my head (that 'ol cabinhead syndrome) and that it was an item from the Lindens' Library folder available to anyone there. I can see how just that sort of ability could cause a disruption for the experience they were looking to provide there. Funny stuff. Thanks for sharing that. _____________________

I am very interested in the original topic of this thread, but I'm too busy today to wade through all this other crap in order to find if there's anything else relevant. This really sucks.

To sum up:
(a) No, Enabran has never referred to a male poster on these forums as "shrill." (b) No one has answered me as to whether Stagecoach Island did or did not have the same updates and suffer the same grid take-downs as we did. I think it did. (c) Enabran thinks I'm hot for his little bod. coco _____________________

Shrill again. You need to know, Enabran, if you don't - that "shrill" is something often applied to women, in a male chauvinist way, as in "shrill, nagging fishwife." You are getting hysterical. _____________________

As for personal risk I guess that would depend on how much $ a person has invested in SL. Or intends to risk. Unlike real life properties there are very few guarantees in SL virtual real estate. When I see someone like WF leaving due to security issues, bugs, flaws, lag or what not I feel for my own personal benefit I should question these things.
I do not have the time these days to wade threw each and every post or thread. I do however have the time to make sure my money is spent well and not wasted on a pipe dream. What happened with WF I hope will not happen again, more so at least I intend to learn something from that experience within SL. Coco - Thank you! Cat _____________________

Very nice, Aimee. But yes, y'all, "shrill" has been traditionally sexist. More to the point, has Enabran ever applied it to a male poster, in addition to, say, me, or Catherine? If so, I will withdraw my case. coco This is just patently ridiculous. Given the fact that shrill refers to a high pitched, annoying sound, it is much more likely that an annoying female voice would be classified as shrill, as they are of a higher pitch to begin with than a male voice. A male voice of the same pitch would also be shrill, as would a high pitched siren from a car alarm or a whole variety of other sounds with no gender at all. To claim that is somehow sexist is just plain stupid, and as other posters have said, diminishes the meaning of real sexism. Considering we are talking about the written word here anyway, this is all quite silly. _____________________
