As a related topic, I'd also like to ask why PG regions were sprinkled throughout the midst of Mature regions all over the mainland in the first place. A little more foresight could have been applied when doing continental layout work. Why not try to consolidate PG regions as part of this process, maybe even form a full PG continent too?

I'm a premium member and I pay for that.

I own a nice, small piece of mainland (2048m2 donated to my own group) on ocean protected land. On the bonus piece of land I have a small gallery where we sell soft erotic art. Real life pictures with nudity.
So now my mainland continent will become the 'adult' continent or it won't. If it will I want to move. Is LL buying my land for a good price? Don't think so. Or my continent won't be the 'adult' continent and I will have to move my gallery to another place?
That other place won't be in the same sim, so it won't be on bonus land. That means I have to pay for it and my bonus land will be useless.

Either way, this is going to cost me money. I have to move, move the gallery or stop selling the art. Who is going to pay for that, LL? Don't think so.

When this happens I'm selling my land and quiting my premium membership. I will live under a bridge somewhere, I don't care. And I think I won't be the only one. Has LL thought of this side affect?

I know that I'm being hard on the matter, but I do see the reasoning behind this. Personally I think that there should be a way of filtering what you want to see in Second Life, the same way that you can filter search results with most search engines. While I disagree with the idea of banning all the adult content providers into one restricted area is in any way a smart decision and in no way a solution to the problem in the long term, I accept that the decision has been made.

From: Allen Kerensky

Why does LL's whole sorry proposal remind me of tx Oh's "Jesus Got Banned" ?
Oh yeah, because the Bible itself is full of violence, sex (what DOES begat mean, again?),

I don't know, but I think I just found a new favorite (maybe) dirty word for every situation.
"Baby, I'm going to begat you all night long."
"Begat that! You can't begat me, I begat you!"
"Bagat the begatting begatters."

But Seriously, Linden Labs...please just put your cards on the table with this so that we can stop the speculation and make real plans. It IS pretty obvious that there is already a plan. Its also obvious that its going to happen weather we the supposed perverts (now labeled as adult with a big scarlet A ) like it or not.

So lets talk. Just be open.

First, Lets talk about how current existing adult content or service providers are going to make the transfer to the new adult regions, and what kind of real help can we expect in that area? Will this be a square meter per square meter trade? What will happen to the old land if we do trade? Will we have choice of the region and parcel and if so, who gets first dibs? Will you give us a tier grace period to adjust to the new area (recommended), and if so, how long?

Second, lets talk (in realistic terms) about how advertising and events are going to work. Rather than jumping right into things with a big scary and hard-to-reverse update of code and policy, couldn't we all try this out in the field first before being exiled to the pornogetto?

Something else to bear in mind is that this isn't targeting a narrow group of residents. This is an across the spectrum change in nearly every aspect of Second Life's diverse culture. Birds, bees and educated fleas. and furries, and professors, and students and goreans.

If you are calling us adults, moving us to Adult only places, the very least you can do is treat us like adults and stop holding back details. I'm sure that Linden Labs already has a timetable in mind, as well as terms that you are willing to negotiate, and some other details that you are (go on...its okay, you can admit it) just not sure about.

Please bear in mind that not everyone has the same amount of time to dedicate to
Second Life, especially this time of year with the current financial climate being what it is.
Also bear in mind that if these new restrictions are too tight, you could see a massive loss in real income from the exchange fees and land sales alone.

The plain brown paper wrapping has been long-standing adult entertainment sector standard of delivery for good reason... it protects the privacy of the recipient. In second life, alternate accounts are the the plain-brown-wrapper.

If you make it harder to be anonymous, you are pretty much putting forward an ultimatum to "out yourself" to these people that would rather remain nameless for good reason. Some folks ( and I have no idea how many) just cannot do that.

So please. Lets skip the candy coating and get to the hard facts of the matter.

phhhht... i havent read through the whole thread yet but i have an opinion..
this means ppl like me who have a private sim with a store that sells mixed content will have to BUY ANOTHER SIM for the majority of my stuff .. ?? so that everyone can access it... or move the adult content stuff to your spanking new adult mainland where lag will rule..??

come on........ aggggh.

ooops you did it again.

EDIT.. ps .. this so does have to do with merging the grids.

Al, as mentioned in the blog post, "Estate owners with Adult content on their land will be required to flag their content; they will not be required to move." We're still working to create clear and consistent definitions of what constitutes adult content, in line with our Community Standards.

You can discuss this further in the other forum:
/352/de/311513/1.html

so.. if i have some sexbeds for sale on my sim.. means the WHOLE sim becomes adult? or can an estate be cut into pieces for adult and not?

This change is about enhancing Second Life for all Residents by giving them greater control over their inworld experiences. It should help to allow a greater granularity of control over what Residents see, and provide the best available method to make Adult content accessible only to those who ought to (and who desire to) access it.

Forgive me if I can't manage to read through all 29 pages before posting. Call me dim, but I thought we already had a system for keeping sensitive residents from seeing adult content? It's called, DON'T GO THERE. In all the time I've been in SL (almost five years) I have *never* accidentally wandered into an extreme sex area. The only time I've ever seen such things is if I intentionally searched for them.

Up till now, it's been very simple: if you don't want to see extreme sex or violence, don't look for it. If you come upon it by accident and don't want to see it, leave. Why is that so difficult? The only reason I can see for making all the adult content move is if there really is a plan in the works to merge the main and teen grids... and if that's the case, I'll have to think seriously about whether I want to stay.

To be honest, I'm a lot more offended by excessive use of bots and campers than I am by sexual content. How about getting rid of them first before worrying about sanitizing the grid for teens and corporate clients?

First... gambling
Second... openspace sims

Now this?

Truly I'm starting to wonder if you ever wanted to sustain a successful venture. Now, as I look back on the above issues coupled with this, I'm starting to think this is more of a psychological torture experiment as to how much you can pull on the paying customers to turn off almost everyone.

Turn the new land into G rated disneyland and leave us to what's left of our splendor.

Wrong, I am from France and I am Age Verified.
It's easy for people to don't see adult content just uncheck mature content in search.

Many RP sims use some violence in rp. That will apply to their ?

Is it possible for LL to go around and tag as much content as possible as Adult now? Perhaps report back here on the simname and x,y coordinates of places you believe are Adult. We would obviously understand that you can't list all possible places and that the list would be a subset of the places forced to move.

Some very real examples along with the reason behind their eviction would be very helpful for us to understand the policy and would give people lots of time to prepare for whatever the future holds, presumably shutting down their businesses and abandoning SL I suppose.
Very good idea. An exercise like this, in a relatively small but representative area of mainland, would be very informative both for residents and for LL. It would clarify where the boundaries are and what their effects would be.

OMG... LL just killed off SL once and for all.. Having been a member since 2006 I am finnaly ready to admit defeat... I have begun the process of selling off my holdings, lindens, land, and inventory items. What once was a wonderful adult place to be and to build has now turned into kiddieland.... Sl will end up very very empty.... LL will end up an also ran... Just like Active Worlds.... So keep up the good work, Lindens!! Mitch Kapor is as wacky as they come... And M. Linden doesn't have a clue what long term residents like me do for fun in SL.. why we are here... And why we contunue to fund this lunacy... But no more for me... My Premium Membership runs out in Oct... By then I will have unloaded my current land holdings... And goodbye SL...... And thank God goodbye to the Lindens... Have never met a more arrogant, full of themselves and their own IQ's than this bunch... It's rarely that you run into a company that is so out of touch with their customer base as LL is... So, for all the LL fanboys... Good luck with your cleansed, washed out, politically correct, liberal wet dream, San Francisco world... I have no desire to be a part of it.... Good Luck running LL with no customers and the absolutely extortionate Tier Fees we all pay.... LOL!! What a bunch of absolute morons...

I have been in Second Life since the start of the game, I have seen many changes over the years but this one definitely takes the cake. I've been on my mainland parcel since 2005 and since I've been back in Second Life I've been trying to buy other ppl out in my region for adding more prims and paying top dollar for the lots. I own 28256 sq in just one region that is all water land and low lag. I do not want to be forced out and remake a new home elsewhere when all my money is tied up where I live right now. I think the lindens can just buy me out for 200k+ and they can keep this so called new adult content land. Now if you the lindens want to give me the max land I can have in mainland that comes to around 36000 sq for $125 a month then that be fine with me. We are talking about taking our homes down and remaking it all from the ground up and that is a lot of work for person to deal with, my home is not in rez box and there is no way i can box it all up for moving. I did not buy my home, I built it myself.

continue their activities without long-term disruption or loss of business

In order to ensure the no long-term disruptions or loss of business, the following conditions MUST be met:

- Automatic updating of all landmarks in notecards (including those in inventory and those (recursively) embedded in prims).
- Automatic updating of all landmarks in landmarks (including those in inventory and those (recursively) embedded in prims).
- Automatic updating of all landmarks in scripts (including those in inventory and those (recursively) embedded in prims).
- Automatic updating of all landmarks encoded in non-standard ways in scripts (including those in inventory and those (recursively) embedded in prims).

All this is required to simply keep objects/inventory in working order.
Not meeting all of the above conditions will result in the guarenteed breaking the functionality of some scripts and objects.
If such affected objects and scripts are in somebody's inventory, such disruption will not only be "long-term", but in fact "permanent".
If any of the above conditions is not met, long-term disruption or loss of business is guarenteed.

As a customer
03-13-2009 01:31
and premium member and as one who was going - like all of us - through thick and thin all the years, I hate to be forced to think about problems again and again and again, instead of having fun. Since when is it business, that customers have to break their heads about problems they don't have ordered and since when is it business to bring customers into trouble for nothing and again nothing?

People I know, IMed me in the last hours about this new stress thing after all possible tech, financial and open space issues and what not all came on us all the times and what it makes to them. They are sitting now there, scratching heads, losing any interest to build or plan or buy or sale or organize anything, because they don't know what will be the exact case at horizon, because no one knows what is the real reason to be forced to make an emigration of nations or to lock themselfs behind closed ingame doors and panic rooms. Some are thinking about starting to cover anything what could be visible. Are we in front of a new ice-age, or in front of the invasion of the barbarians, or what makes it so urgent to move and to hide our avatars and homes and biz and items behind a triple layered virtual burka?

Brave new world. Not alone that free citicens worldwide turned into restrictiv totalitarian controled tributaries by paranoid politicians, no, best will be to make us all invisible in second life too, talking only 4 words like "yes, no, please, thanks" to fulfill any possible antinatural correctness.

Better I duck tape myself, because I am actualy so angry about this new stress, that my cables jumping out of my swollen and pulsating neck. Enough said.

Isn't it fun to participate in a feedback thread for the Lindens. Of course you do realize, based on the results of past request for feedback, that you are jousting at windmills.

I would be willing to bet that any feedback, in any of the threads on this issue, will be heard and considered as has the feedback requested on other contentious issues. Not at all.

Whatever is going to be, has likely already been decided by LL and will be implemented in their usual ham-handed, haphazard way. Feedback not withstanding.

Check past performance.

dream on. you will have to abandon your land to bots and go buy your new xxx parcel from mr unknown for $50/m, manually update your landmarks, notecards, etc.
youre rooted coming and going. and what ever gave you the impression that ll give a damn about your business or livelihood? they will break you on a whim and not have a second thought.

Don't forget... anyone who can't or refuses to verify will not be able to get to your shiney new adult flagged land you paid a ransom for to some land speculator. You will be left with the few pervs that really want the adult content and the kids who aren't supposed to see the adult content.

Nina/Felix - well the ONLY possible benefit I can see coming from demanding every av be 'verified' is that a lot of bot-alts will drop away.

And that's the only one I can imagine...(and I don't even find bots offensive but I know many are incensed by bot-use).

I still can't work out how LL's relocation plans are going to work.

Ignoring all the financial implications, many have other investments in the current location - they may particularly like the scenery, its location within the large mainland, its history (for those on older parts of the mainland), the neighbours (for those on more stable parts of the mainland) or even just the name of the sim!

Then there is the move itself - SL lacks the tools for seamlessly moving anything but the simplest of builds between sims (moving large builds within a sim is bad enough). Taking the entire build as a coalesced object is often traumatic (particularly if there are a mixture of permissions involved), and as likely as not to create an unrezzable object or to lost key components; and even that is not available if the build is the creation of a group and the objects do not have a single owner.

Will there be resettlement packages - (for time spent terraforming for instance. I think not since the 'changes may occur at any time' proviso is in most online contracts) Or maybe just cholera blankets.

Don't understand why LL don't start a new "G-rated" continent instead .... and anyone who aren't Mature enough to regulate their own content or live in a world of tolerance can seek refuge there. - Start a New World on this continent. That will rid the Hassle of trying to constantly define "Adult" content..

Really, from an adult business standpoint, this segregation doesn't sound too bad (in theory) as we all know "forbidden fruit always tastes sweetest". but from a moral decency point of view... I feel ashamed of ourselves as Mature, logical thinking human beings.

it's like 14 August 1947 to me all over again....

anyways LL better do thread lightly or they'll end up killing themselves too in the process.

They forget SL is not just RP and creativity, its survival hangs mainly on "SOCIAL NETWORKING"... ask urself why FACEBOOK is massive right now... and a big part of hooking up is not just friends and fun , it's also about expressing yourself & meeting others who are into the same things & making out (SL's few remaining advantage over other social media)... in whatever strange ways they like. a big part chunk of it could be deemed "Adult" in nature..
...labeling lots of it "explicitly" adult not only continues to add a social stigma to people with particular preferences, but also Engineers our social behaviour to one which requires constantly regulation . . .

isn't this the easiest and more logical way to merge the teen & main grids?

So, acording to LL, if i have a float or blanket that allows sex that is used by me and my friends for private use on my beach, then i would be in violation of the new adult content? Does that mean i also have to get rid of my private playroom as well since anyone can cam into it? If that's the case, and i have to move, will LL give me an equal or more valuable piece of water front like i have now? I agree that it would be much easier to create a new continent for non adult content than try to uproot so many people from land they have owned for any length of time.

Not everything is about money, it's about quality of life and things like that. There are tons more important issues and causes in the world than cybersex. I don't understand why people are so upset that they can't use technology to have sex when they could just go do it in Real Life. This technology is expensive and it took many years to develop. I think it should be used for a higher purpose, to educate, inform and enlighten human beings. The sex industry in SL is just as bad and demeaning as it is in RL. Except sometimes even more violent. The Buddha said that everything comes from the mind alone. Do you really want things like this in your mind. Don't you want to do something more productive with your mental energy and technical resources? I do. I don't care if people call it a "ghetto" that they are forced to move to. I am trying to help people and educate them, and it just looks silly to have a Strip club right next door to my campus. We pay full price for the sim, we don't get an educational discount right now, and it's been that way all year since I took over. So excuse me, but I spend just as much money as you.

As an educator you should have had the intelligence to not buy in a Mature area in the beginning as several have said in the first place and then decide to take the self righteous path as the offended party. Its no ones fault apart from your own and whining your sensibilities have been offended just makes me embarrassed for you.

Little place the Lindens create. Make a little amusement park, some rides, and populate it with clowns and people in mouse costumes and then let the n00bs hang out there?

QUOTE

lol I like to explore and love amusement parks, been to a few on SL frankly was thinking next time I will need to bring my cricket soundbox. Some noise, considering it was a week end evening and only 3 other people in the sim, and one of them was with me. Was really a great park too, kind of depressing really.
