I told LL a year ago that they should give a grant to a university to develop a model of the SL economy, so that the consequences of tinkering could be investigated in advance. Did they listen? Hah!
Brilliant idea. Heck even a grad study would be better than what they seem to be going off of now.

So, as usual, we lab rats have to put up with whatever torments the so-called bright boys in the lab choose to inflict on us.
I prefer to be a lab kitty. Or princess. Can I have my pink pony now?

1) Currently land and region controls do not allow you to limit access to adult verified accounts if you wish to use group or individual access controls - will this be rectify this?
ANSWER: If we're understanding the question correctly, the concern is over group land permissions, if they will still work, and how verification will play a part. We've considered it and believe it makes sense to have maturity ratings act as a base upon which the permissions build.

2) Will it be expected that the swap happens instantaneously or will it be possible to temporarily own both the existing mature land and the new swapped adult land (this would be essential when moving a mall with lots of renters)?
ANSWER: You will be able to own both to make the move without incurring fees

3) A number of business have surveyed their staff and customers and determined that the majority (typically >60%) are neither PIOF or age verified. The lack of trust in LL and a third party provider should be of a major concern. What re-assurances are there that our personal information will stay private?
ANSWER: Our white-label age verification service does not store or retain data submitted for age verification purposes. As for credit card information, that is stored and protected by our payment processor and, ultimately, Residents' credit card issuers. We understand some Internet users' reluctance to use credit cards, PayPal, or other online payment methods, and those users will, as always, make their own personal decisions based on the choices and protections that these alternatives offer.

4) It has been suggested that LL create two new continents - one entirely PG for those wishing for an entirely "PG" experience, and one entirely mature for those wishing for an entirely "mature" experience, leaving the existing continents for those wishing a "mixed" experience. People could then choose to move to these continents rather than be required to move. What are LL's view on this proposal?
ANSWER: Unfortunately this doesn't meet the criteria of the program. Keep in mind that what we now call Mature will be a very large proportion of our existing geography and content, with PG and Adult in the minority. So what you are requesting is essentially what we are doing - a large experience that is 18+ with other material available by choice.

5) Some clubs/stores which receive a large number of visitors have carefully chosen their location so that they are on quiet sims to avoid overloading the sim. If 2 or more such clubs are swapped into the same sim on the adult continent, it will have a detrimental effect on both those clubs and other residents of the sim. What plans do LL have to avoid this?
ANSWER: We will be conscious of placement when we move people.

6) What are the builds already showing on Ursula? I'm sure there's an easy answer, but knowing what they are (e.g. the SIM marked Ursula 80 on map which looks pretty full already) will reduce some Residents' conspiracy theories.
ANSWER: The builds on Ursula are similar to what you would find in any other Linden developed area.

7) What will you do about adult merchants who do not OWN land, but rather rent space in the hundreds of malls on mature mainland in SL? Will LL set up a mall for them? Will LL at least coordinate contacts between these dispossessed merchants and those mall owners who agree to move?
ANSWER: We anticipate that both the mainland Adult continent and private estate owners who host Adult content will be providing rental space.

8) For Filters and Land descriptions i was wondering and hoping that there is a way to filter out certain words that would be adult. by not having adult checked - A way to filter out just that one word from land descriptions and Classified adds would be a huge help, people with Adult checked can see it, but People with out adult checked can not, Enabling me the merchant the ability to advertise my adult content and mature content in one land description, while filtering out adult wording for those that do not wish to see it.
ANSWER: Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely we will soon support this feature.

Personally, I don't like equating porn with maturity or adulthood. If you are coarse enough to be involved in the porn industry, call it what it is. Mature adults are first and foremost responsible for their own actions.

Thank you kindly for sharing your opinion. However, not everyone is as dismissive as yourself, nor as willing to lump all sexual expression with "porn".

It's really nice of LL to let you few sorry losers go on and on like this. But it probably won't last more than a couple more days, you know.

My how positively coarse of you! :P

Dissapointing, Blondin. :(

It this thing really was about giving people more choice, having 2 continents is really an obvious answer. Instead, you're keeping the majority of the mainland mature and have said that private residences can be all the naughty they want.. How are you doing that and meeting ANY of the goals you guys stated for this effort?

I'm sorry Blondin but this is a crock. I have had PG land bordering a mature sim, it made my PG land meaningless. Please ask the guys providing you with the answers to stop treating us like eejits, we actually go inworld, that's why we notice your misuse of AO, AO is a widely used acronym already, the fact that the guys behind this decision don't realise this says a lot to us residents and the fact that those guys don't recognise the issues of PG sims bordering mature sims also says a lot.

My friend and I purchased a 2048 sm parcel about 3 months ago. Will we receive a 2048 sm parcel on the Adult mainland if we are made to move (which seems highly likely due to the nature of the material on our parcel)?

Also, how is it going to be determined who moves and who does not move? Should we be submitting our LM's to someone?

Will there be adult HIs and WAs? Many newbies specifically *want* that kind of experience.

I think you'll find that what he's trying to say is that Aristotle already have scoured the internet for as much data on people as is possible to get. (which is why it can be so out of date) and so the deal they've done with Aristotle is that the data you actually enter is only kept long enough to cross check against what they've got on you. Once they can match what you enter to what they actually hold, they send the flag to LL and then delete the data you've entered. So it's not actually written to their database.

what I haven't been able to find out yet is what they peripherally capture.

for example, do they keep a record that they've age verified you? it doesn't have to be more than a flag that says LL "yes" but of course it still adds to the information they hold. I suspect yes because they need to keep a record just in case there's litigation.

It also means that they can deliver a lot of peripheral data about the types of people they're verifying for LL i.e. for all the data they hold (electoral rolls, drivers licences, bankruptcy and whatever else they mine about us) they can produce aggregated data about the socio-economic types which inhabit this world - which for anyone who wants to target as us a market is gold. Aristotle must be rubbing their hands at the rich pickings we'll provide, even if they don't get to keep the data we enter.

There was a report on the BBC the other week that a university has managed to identify individuals from anonymised data. if you have flickr, twitter, facebook etc accounts there's actually enough data given out by these sites, despite it being anonymised, for them to be able to actually find your specific account and point the finger. That's scary stuff outside of what we're exposed to from Aristotle.

LL are obviously quite frightened of what would happen if they didn't go down the route of verifying accounts rather than insisting on us all undergoing age verification by Aristotle.

Aristotle is providing liability insurance to LL - so they're guaranteeing any legal fees if any account verified from them turns out to be incorrect (i.e fraudulent or underage person). They're *that* certain of the data they hold and their verification process.

LL will essentially waiving the oppportunity to cover themselves for those of us who are piof.. and it makes redundant the argument of forcing people to verify to prove their an adult. I would suspect a lot of the kids on the grid who are piof went out and got one of those disposable credit cards. Or if they haven't they will have between now and when this all gets deployed.

Disingenuous is the word that springs to mind but really they're just trying to avoid cutting their financial throat while trying to introduce this.

ANSWER: You will be able to own both to make the move without incurring fees

question 1:
when you say "without incurring fees" do you mean that the new swapped adult land will be free of charge to the land owner? (i understand that tier will not be charged twice.) specifically speaking of the case of an owner of a parcel or parcels: will the new swapped land be free of charge, or will the land owner need to purchase the parcels from 1) Linden Labs, or 2) a person who has already purchased the entire sim?

question 2:
can i have a Linden personally come to my place of business and check it out with me, and give me advice as to whether i'll *have* to move? i believe my group's parcels belong on Mature land, since any adult content is not easy to reach unless a person is *trying* to get inside. who should i contact for a feedback session on my club?

thank you, i hope for a response to these 2 vital questions.

I don't know if i made myself clear...

there will be two kinds of verification from what I can see.

first will be the in house LL account verification. This is the piof. Effectively if you have payment info you'll be verified. As you can see this has nothing to do with demonstrating your age - just that you have/had payment details that you gave to LL

the other (and more rigorous) is the age verification undertaken by Aristotle. Hence the need to provide them with data so they can run it past the data they hold. They don't need LL to give them anything. There's so much info on you on the web that these guys know you better than you do yourself.

as a side thought that data will probably also include the sex offenders register. Aristotle made a huge thing of the numbers of registered sex offenders they found on facebook.

Hopefully this makes the two types of verification available a little clearer.

Neat or on the rocks?

I agree with you, but adding that the current TOS, reliably applied, perhaps with the standard "I am 18" checkbox that every other real adult site usues would have provided just as much CYA, and far less turmoil. I just can't fathom their motivation for all this.

This actually is a good question. PIOF is all the info they say they want, but what will prevent LL from "further verifying" all of us who are PIOF, claiming "sorry, but since our lawyers actually figured out it really doesn't prove your age, we just went ahead and verified you, to save you the trouble".?

A non-answer. We've heard this before. Aristotle has a history of (and in fact, is in business to) provide data on their clients to others. How do YOU, Linden Lab, know they will do as they say? You also fail to address the fact that the Age Verification system implemented last year is deeply flawed in several respects. You fail to address the fact that credit cards can be either legally obtained by underage persons, or illegally borrowed.

Wrong. Apparently, the people driving this (you still haven't published any data on just how many complainers you've had) don't want to have to see Adult content. Fine. You say you want a more "predictable" experience for everyone. Fine. Put the degenerates on Ursula. Put the puritans on Niceland. Presto. Predictable. If you don't do something like this, the puritans are just going to be offended by what the rest of us are doing in our "private homes", which are not private, or by the next level of naughtiness down from "Extreme Adult"...next time, it will be the nude beaches and then the short skirts that are "offensive".

Why isn't verification going to be required for access to mature areas, as well? Or for all of SL, since it's supposed to be an 18+ service anyway?

Ice please. Spirits go straight to my head :)

I still blame that damn report they decided to sponsor. Even though it was ganging up on myspace the outcome was that everyone agreed that giving people like Aristotle a chance to make megabucks (bearing in mind the republican party history the company has and the political persuasion of both the government and the president at the time.. this outcome is not really much of a surprise).

What really got me about that report was it effectively rewards bad parenting by putting the onus on adults to protect the little darlings. That said, I can understand it, if you work on the assumption that parents won't do their job then something really has to be enforced to protect the kids. That Dolcett site I found last week just had the "I'm over 18" page and I would hate any teen to be able to go in and read what was there. Even now I'm calm, the sheer violent misogyny of the postings there leaves a very bad taste.

I would rather prospective parents had to get a licence to breed rather than this but I've got more chance of growing an extra leg than that happening.. :)
