From: Ann Otoole I will say that the vitriol being shot at LL folks is a tad misguided. The board of directors is who makes these type decisions. If you are going to be mad then be mad at rosedale and kapor. The staff is just doing what they have been told to do. Agreed, this policy has came from the very top. It's a shame that those who decided this policy won't try and explain the long term plan or where the true impetus is coming from, if they really do think that this move will attract folks who aren't here then that's a worrying leadership decision. People are going to lose money over this, as they did over Openspaces, people look at a company who make decisions like that from the outside and decide not to engage too.

From: Talarus Luan I generally live at Jack's Office Hours, but I gave up on Blondin when he just sat there for minutes of silence, COMPLETELY ignoring my questions.
I mean, it is fine if he didn't have an answer for them, or even if he didn't want to answer them, but the complete level of disrespect for not even acknowledging them being asked was just, well, stupid and pointless. Why bother to have office hours if you're not going to talk with people who show up with concerns?
In contrast, I left Blondin's and went to Blue's right after, and Blue was more than happy to entertain my questions. What you experienced is why i quit going to any. LL staff treat people that way as a rule from what I observed. Which is why I think they need a lawyer at every office meeting to do the talking. I.e.; discontinue these fic fests. Put this stuff out in public where everyone can see it. Put stuff up for votes to ignore, etc.

From: Bith Wierwight I don't qualify for a land-swap. I'm a gallery and make NO money. This is nuts. All I did was pour real dollars into LL's coffers and this is my reward. I had a full, rich life before SL; it is still there. I'm not leaving, mind you -- I'm just never giving this company full of idiots another dime.
Anyone want some cheap land? I'm inworld now, cleaning up and out. I don't belive you have to make money to swap I belive you just have to be public and adult by their defintion

Btw, I also don't appreciate having my posts from one Forum moved to another without my knowledge or consent..... if you have issues, address me where I posted instead of running off doing it elsewhere. You're supposedly adults, behave like one.
Thank you.
I do apologise for not waiting for you to respond to my response to you in that thread. I'm sure you will eventually and we can continue the discussion there. All opinions are good - whether we like them or not. They require people to think about why they support the things they do. and perhaps change their opinions or their way of stating them in light of reasoned arguments. My biggest problem with this whole plan is the forcible removal of businesses. Even if they only stick to their original estimate of 250 sims worth of content (5% of the grid) for the extreme (which does not include virtually everyone posting here) then you're probably looking at around 2,000+ businesses that will be forced to relocate and at the moment we've been given 9 calendar days to do it in before your original land is reclaimed. Can you imagine trying to take down and set up your sim in that time? if you work full time in rl if is almost an impossible ask. There's many other issues around the fallibility of the verification system and the integrity of the third party doing the verification, the fact that not everyone who believes that they fall foul of the new rules will get the land swap and therefore are left vulnerable to ARs on the mainland while the land speculators take advantage of whatever free land there is in ursula. then of course there's those who don't run a business but whose lifestyle puts them at risk of falling foul of the rules. They have strong emotional ties to their land. Just because it's virtual doesn't make what they any feel less real. Yet they may be left behind or they may have to give up their dream. Either way it's not fair. these are some of the problems here that need sorting. Yes, reducing the number of kids and griefers is a big bonus but for many it pales into nothingness compared to what they have to go through to get there. And most of the angst has been unnecessarily caused by the way LL has chosen to handle this. btw: LockGuard is one of the mainstays of the kinky world in second life. Without it, life in there would be a lot poorer for many people. It enables imaginations to soar

Some Food For Thought
04-26-2009 15:50
Okay, here's something I addressed in another forum. People are talking about what they could lose in this change, the risks, etc. People are talking about losing money..... but, how many people are going to have their livelihoods challenged in this change?
With every change that Linden Lab makes, that's what it does-- it puts my livelihood at risk. Those of you are against it, what is it you are standing to lose? How much? How many of you are standing to lose a RL income? How many of you stand to lose far more than a few bucks, or even a few hundred bucks, or even a few thousand bucks..... how many of you stand to lose an actual business, equal to that of a RL business, that you've worked and worked and worked like a dog to build up, even risking homelessness in RL to achieve that?
Again, let me emphasize, this is not me saying I'm better than anyone else, but let me point something out here.....
People are saying I'm out of touch.....
Well.... let me say this in response, I *am* successful and have gotten to where I am in Second Life because I *do* have my finger on the pulse of Second Life..... I'm not oblivious to what goes on here, my living demands that I know what's happening, and that I have a keen sense of what's happening in the environment in which I make my living, where Second Life is going to go, and what may or may not happen. I can't be complacent, I can't just sit there and say "whatever happens happens". I can't afford it.
Do you think I would really risk my source of income supporting a move that would destroy my market?
The last time Linden Lab proposed age verification, I was venomously against it because I foresaw the damage it would do...... this time, while I see a big, temporary dip, I don't see how this will do anything but make the adult market more efficient. Outside of a little initial hardship and shuffling businesses, nobody has yet to tell me a plausible reason why or how this is going to kill the adult market.
Imagine this..... when I first signed up to Second Life you HAD to have payment info even log in.... that's right, you couldn't even log into Second Life without a valid credit card. And you know what, within that, Second Life grew, and it thrived, despite the whole Second Life world being locked away behind a verification system.
So, with that in mind, how do you think just locking away adult content will kill Second Life when once, all content was locked away and Second Life still thrived?

From: Dogboat Taurog crappy crappy competion? you have a right to have an opinion but for petes sake you come across as 1 nasty piece of work. and for that im never going to do business with you or your crappy business. the smaller businesses will go to the wall and thats what you want. Have you considered that I was referring to people who just slap up a few walls, put up some camping chairs or bots, and sell some slapped together prims and call it "business"? Have you considered that, perhaps, I wasn't talking about actual people who build their businesses, stores, and clubs with pride.... but can't get noticed because of the crappy clubs, crappy malls, or crappy quickly slapped together to make a buck junk? I apologize if you misunderstood my intent.

From: Lillani Lowell 1) I am Magus, aka Lillani Lowell, owner of the Dictatorshop.
2) More than once, among my posts, I've said this change is going to impact my business and I'm willing to take the hit, especially among my xstreet.com posts. This WILL affect me, I guarantee you, I accept it will..... short term pain for long term gain.
3) You don't need to give up any more personal info for verification than a payment method on file. That's not asking a lot..... in fact, that was the only way to even access Second Life when I first signed up.
4) If someone disagrees with me enough to take it out on my products, I accept that. Money doesn't rule me, I'm not afraid to speak out like some are. In Second Life, often, if you speak out against the visible tide, people will try to crucify you for even voicing a differing opinion, and they will try a number of ways to take it out on you. But, I'm not a mouse. I speak my mind, I stand by it.....
5) If you can give me enough valid information, I can and will change my opinion on verification. But, I've read the debates, I've read the posts..... and you know what, so far, verification outweighs it all. Not all verfied accounts actually work. LL hasn't seemed to fix that glitch yet. I had to do more than just give the info. like I did to get payment info on file. To be verified I had to give my drivers license number and address. I don't care how you feel about this. I like to hear all sides. what I do care about is HOW you stated it. As if you were too good to have this effect you and as if you didn't care about anyone else. This won't effect me much at all since I don't sell adult content items anymore. But I care about other people who might be useing their income here to help with their rl household expenses. I care that LL changed the rules in the middle of the game so people who spent rl money on mature land now can't use it for what they intended and they may or may not be able to relocate. I don't have to like your opinion. I don't have to like you. Thats my right. And you have the same right. You have already won this battle. You are getting what you want. The rest of us will just vent until we get tired because LL isn't going to change their minds. You seem to have some sort in insight, somehow, of how this will effect you. Maybe you can give us your source because nobody here is getting any answers on how it will effect them.

Blondin- Initially we were told extreme content and the now-infamous2-4%.
The definitions have changed to encompass more than extreme. Pretty much anything sexual or with a modicum of violence.
So, with an expanded definition, the initial parameters of the 2-4% analysis have changed drastically, right?
What is LL's assumption now of the percentage? Only after you have answered that: have your plans (size of continent, etc) changed as well?

Keywords and SL Groups
04-26-2009 16:11
From: DanielRavenNest Noe I wonder how the keywords list will impact groups? I can understand group *names* and *charter descriptions* being controlled by adult keywords re: searching, but what will happen to words in the adult keyword list that appear in group titles/tags? I know groups have had their names and charters (and in some cases member titles) changed by LL because they have not been 'PG' (though it seems a very random system, and it seems to be the luck of the draw if you get spotted, then earn yourself a suspension for naming a group that is considered 'offensive' etc.) - BUT, if, for example, 'submissive' is now considered an adult search keyword - as well as that effecting a group name (and btw, IMO it is ridiculous that 'submissive' is considered an adult keyword, shame on you LL), what happens if a group member wears their 'submissive' group title/tag in 'public' Mature Mainland now? As far as I can see, if group titles/tags of words which were never considered 'adult' before, (like 'submissive' - I'm not talking about the ones like 'I'm A Nasty F**king C*mDump') are now seen in Mature locations, won't that be just the same as saying, "ok, no collars in Mature, either"? See where I'm going with this Blondin? Will all these keywords now apply to group names (which I'm guessing it will because of the search implementation) AND group titles/tags? This needs clarification. Will it be ok to *wear* a group title/tag - that is/was ok to wear now in Mature - AFTER the policy change and once the group listing itself has been tagged adult. And surely - one could even have a group name and charter which is still PG, but has one of these keywords as a member title. Will this sort of thing just be like using the words in chat, and they'll be fine? That leads me onto.. what about chat (and things like gestures')? Am I right in thinking that if the landowner is ok with words on the adult keywords search list being spoken (i.e. typed - let's not even go near voice chat, lol!) in their club, for example, that this is still ok on Mature land? Is it just that if you're on Mature 'public' land one cannot 'see' public adult content (e.g. poseballs, porn, avatars bumping nasties) and it'll be ok to use those keywords in chat? Confused - who will arbitrate this? Slippery slope. P.S. And <scratches head>, why is 'faggot' in the list? I know full well its varied meanings - but if LL have included it for its discriminatory definition, then why haven't you also included 'nigger'? The list goes on. Second addendum: The list 'was' incomplete - and Residents are currently updating the wiki - watching with interest

what is the problem(s)
04-26-2009 16:17
What wil happen? I dont know, but the problem i se are this: 1, a newbee comes in to SL, he clik on any he se to se what happens. 2, he find our what happens and ends up in a shop, he got no idea on whats mature or adult or any. 3, he suddenly finds out there are somthing called "search" and he type in what 99% of guyes do , he type "sex" then non of it shows up cuz he has not tik ON the /mature/adult cliker in search,, cuz i dont even know he got to! And he also do not got "payment info on file" After a week or two he seen so many cool looking dudes round with all the nice girls he starts to ask whay to do, how to get the same as thay got.
And there you got it,, its we,, us the users in SL that need to help all the new we se..i meet so many new users all the time in places i am and many do not got any idea how to use SL, i ask them if thay tryed to look in "help" and the answer i get are " how do i find help?" In one of my sims(main sim)we set up a kiosk (Thanks Ucce) with guidelines and some rules, i allways on a 24/7 basis got securerty/Giudes on duty to help, its on with a guidebot, but real avs/ppl are better. So i se that we need more helpers and info all over SL from Mall ans simowner and from Linden Lab, this is imprtant not only for me and other ladownr but also for Linden Lab to get new users to stay in SL
As i se the new stuff on Adult/Mature comming up there wil be a need for a lot more info

From: Ayla Holt I don't care how you feel about this. I like to hear all sides. what I do care about is HOW you stated it. As if you were too good to have this effect you and as if you didn't care about anyone else. And I do apologize for that, I can see how some people would take it the wrong way, and I hope through my posts I've said it in the way I should have said it the first time around. I'm passionate, but often blunt and short pointed. From: Ayla Holt I care that LL changed the rules in the middle of the game so people who spent rl money on mature land now can't use it for what they intended and they may or may not be able to relocate. This is the nature of world-- in both First Life and Second Life. Things can change, in Second Life we have Linden Lab, in real life, we have government regulation. Linden Lab has a very long history of changing "the rules", it's not something that shouldn't be expected. Second Life is a very fluid environment, never expect it to stay the same, because it never will. From: Ayla Holt I don't have to like your opinion. I don't have to like you. Thats my right. And you have the same right. I disagree with you, but I don't dislike you..... sorry, but this brief exchange on a heated topic gives me no idea of who you are. I can't dislike you for that, but feel free to dislike me..... you've earned it, I guess. From: Ayla Holt You seem to have some sort in insight, somehow, of how this will effect you. Maybe you can give us your source because nobody here is getting any answers on how it will effect them. While this may be a sarcastic statement, I can't tell in text...... honestly, my insight comes from trust. I trust that Linden Lab will do what's best for Second Life. They can see things that we can't..... they know things we don't..... and when they implement something, it's generally for a darn good reason. I've seen all kinds of people say Linden Lab is stupid and ignorant and many other unpleasant things, but you know what..... Second Life is successful, nobody else is doing or has been about to do what Second Life is doing..... and Second Life is still constantly growing. If Linden Lab were either stupid or ignorant, Second Life would fail..... and it's certainly not failing. That's not the results from a company who don't know what they're doing..... sure, they make mistakes, but they fix them too.

From: Akira Luminos I wonder how the keywords list will impact groups? I can understand group *names* and *charter descriptions* being controlled by adult keywords re: searching, but what will happen to words in the adult keyword list that appear in group titles/tags?
Well, in the actual search listings, each tab has its own set of maturity flags. Entering "sex" in search/groups yields 0 results under PG and mature, and 3450 under adult.
Oddly, the people section does *not* have a maturity flag. There are hundreds of people with the first name "sex". I'm almost afraid to try out the other words.
Setting my maturity level to PG in Preferences, does not stop me from seeing adult results in search, nor from creating a group role and title named "sex"
Your question also left out textures of all kinds, with dirty words on them - tee shirts, wall signs, etc. It also leaves out hovering text items, items that emit chat, item names and descriptions, there's LOTS of ways to be dirty besides search.

*sigh*ing at the banned words list
04-26-2009 16:36
It will be pretty hard for LGBT places to be listed in search if you can not use "the s word" (transsexual, same sex, sexual diversity, homosexual, etc). Not to mention anyplace that specifically says "no sex" in their land description.

Anyone have the 'complete' list then? Well, the lindens do, but the only way for *us* to find out is by using the 1.23 client software, and trying words. If someone discovers a bunch, please add it to the wiki page. If someone is smart enough to feed the entire Dictionary of Sexual Terms: http://www.sex-lexis.com/Sex-Dictionary/copulationinto search, by all means do so. That will get us close to a complete list

Second Life IS successful, but beyond the creation of it, and (barely) maintaining the infrastructure,LL has very little to take credit for. It is due almost entirely to it's users, whom LL has consistently shown disdain for. They aren't stupid, but as a business concern they make stupid decisions and implement them in the worst way possible. They are incompetent at communicating and have no idea what is going on in their platform. SL has thrived in spite of them, not because of.

The 'list' https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Search_keywords shows some great ways that a 'list of words' to filter is pointless... Some things you can't have with this 'list' - an In-World production "Of Human BONDAGE" - an appearance by singer/songwriter KINKY Friedman - anything that would depict the American Civil War and its use of SLAVE and contrary to Blondni's assurances that "A Strip Club without sex balls" would be 'mature' you can't advertise having a STRIPPER and "A Shop selling BDSM gear" would be 'mature', you just can't use any of the NON-SEXUAL terms to advertise it, BDSM, Bondage, Slave, Submissive, Dominatrix and Domme Times like this I miss George Carlin even more

Not to mention anyplace that specifically says "no sex" in their land description. Exactly Kara. Considering the defiant counter claims by many Lindens (some senior) in the forums and in-world etc., that this wouldn't be the case, they just seem to be asking for a HUGE global publicity scandal if they continue with some of these filtered words. Imagine the headline, "Linden Lab Bans Gay Businesses to Sexual Deviant Zone in SL"
