Interestingly though, I cannot find a legal definition of 'actual human being' anywhere.
This about sums up your whole philosophy Alexander, who you are, what you are, and why you argue and present your case in the style you do.

An actual human being is self-evident. No law or legal definition is required.

Lets say no one spent any money in SL for just one day...I wonder how much they would lose in revenue? hmmmm May 15th is a Friday...just sayin

I havent spent anything inworld in over a week and don't intend to spend another penny in SL. Some kind of action like this would be a good way to go. Maybe do it every Friday. No Buy Fridays. Sounds good! And don't limit it to just LL, don't buy from anyone inworld. ;)

Not much, unless that is the day you pay your tier. All you are doing is not supporting a fellow resident business. You could not buy on the Lindex or on SLX, but the cut LL gets is chump change. One day won't make a dent on their bottom line. Tiering down and going basic or leaving totally is all you can do if you really want it to be felt.

Since according to LL a large percentage of residents don't want me or my biz around why should I support theirs. lol ;)

that's been suggested a number of times already but the following problems exist:

1. not enough people know about this as is, so the boycott wouldn't be widespread

2. LL makes money from tier, probably more than they do from LindeX, so their money isn't cut off cause the business owners still have to pay for the land.

3. in the end, even if the word was widespread, the individual business owners would be the ones hurt.

just sayin is all...

That's where the up and leave part comes in.

I'm not server savvy but has anyone noticed a slowdown where they are in bandwidth?
I normally run at 150+kbs in my sim now its hovering at 60 and 70? in the last few days
and i've noticed we now have 293 sims in Ursula...wonder if they are tieing the new sims into exisiting servers already overloaded?

For those blog posters who are supporting/going along with the changes, it would be interesting to know what biz's they are involved with so residents like myself can avoid buying anything from them. ;)

The initial web bubble was founded on people trying to do just this - slapping anything and everything on the web and treating it like catalog sales to a bottomless wallet out there someplace. Some stuff worked, like Amazon because of sheer size of selection. Some stuff didn't, like Pets.com where you could buy a crate of dogfood 10c cheaper, then spend 10$ to ship the stuff in 2 weeks time (hope fido isn't hungry now...) And nothing about catalog sales screams "come see it in 3d!" A web interface a) works perfectly well enough and b) reaches all of the world instead of the small fraction of us 80,000 inworld who go to that sim for whatever reason.

So we are now at the second half of the equation. While I as a consumer want to know what possible benefit I could gain from going to $company's sim and buying some RL service from them, likewise $company asks why they should go through the hassle and expense of a presence in SL in the first place? So far, I can think of nothing anyone can sell me inworld for RL use that would make me want to stop having fun and go visit their sim. If I need it, or want it, I can already get it in RL or on the web. So who needs SL for RL needs?
Absolutely!

On top of all this, the other thing to consider is the currency itself. Presumably, anything made available for purchase in-world will have to be paid for with Lindens, which would likely have to be purchased from real-world Dollars. As anyone who has done any kind of international travel knows, any time currency changes form, it loses value. So why would I want to pay for a real-world item or service using in-world currency? At least, with the original web bubble, there was none of that involved.

it could have something to do with the script monitoring software the put in with 1.26. all monitoring stuff has an overhead.. this would certainly have an impact if it's pulling all script stats.

and of course it wasn't exactly without its problems during deployment and certainly wasn't fantastically stable last night..

that's a predictable user experience for you :)

I'd rather a public boycott of the venture capitalists businesses.. :)

edited to add I can probably get you a list of around 250 who are directly supporting people who are supporting this (if that makes sense)

and again to add - inworld businesses

I'd like to see that list. Drop a copy to the *I* Am Adult Content Group, too. Or send it to whoever is in charge of the group to put it out as a group notice. That's probably a better idea.

The one company handles it all SL model for virtual worlds is dead.
Don't be silly. If they were dead, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I would like a copy of that list too. Any way to show the avatar name and then list all the biz's they are involved in? That way anyone who will be experiencing a loss from all this can make informed buying decisions. Why support any business inworld run by someone who supports the change LL is about to make. They certainly don't care about you or your biz.

if you're lagging then you could check the lag meter (under the help menu) see where the lag is.

personally I have bandwidth restrictions at home, and I can run almost lag free (and happily so due to the restrictions) at that or less depending on how many people and scripts are around.

/me remembers the topic, remembers all the scripting and people that go into clubs and shudders. "Guess I won't be accessing ursula from home"

I'm being serious when I ask, how is this list compiled? Did business owners who support the plan take a survey somewhere and the results are known or make some sort of statement in support of it, beyond what may have been said in the forum? How do you know what business owners support the plan?

The "Lab" as you call it is losing money each week if you research the facts, you are becoming increasingly crass in your posts.
If this is so, then it wouldn't have anything to do with bone-headed anti-consumer business practices now, would it?

Maybe someone will crawl thru the posts and make notes of all those supporting this change. Make a note of their names and when buying check to see who the object creator or owner is. If it matches up then don't buy. That simple.

because I share a plot with someone who applied to do a hunt. I saw it but when I saw the hunt requirements saying no porn in very blunt terms I didn't apply but passed the info on.

She applied, even spoke to one of the organisers at the time she dropped the application over so the notecard was received.

The next thing I'm having a little thin lippedness at the organiser over on xsl where the organiser said that no shop would be accepted if it shared a sim with porn and went on to give her description of porn shops that sounded a lot like mine.. (she'd had a quick look at my wares I suspect (so to speak))

needless to say my fellow trader didn't get an invite to the hunt.

There was a huge emphasis on the no porn thing in the hunt requirements and let's face it my shop isn't pornographic in any real sense.

So, you there you have it. An avowed anti-porn, kid friendly hunt.

Yes, I have an agenda here. My choices are mine, others shouldn't be penalised for what I do or sell and I have no compunction about boycotting any shop that supported the position of the hunt.

here's the link to the xsl thread
