From: Duke Aker Can you use your provisional driving licence, i know it only says drivers licence, but can you use your provisional one to? please reply back anyone ^^ Your missing the point, provisional licenses are normally issued to people under 18. The whole point of age verification is to supposedly assure LL and everyone else, that you are OVER 18. From: someone Originally Posted by Vahn Dagger My sentiments exactly. I have my moods where I don't want to put up with it. Moving the sims is a good idea now that I think about it, but the age verification is the part I don't get.
You also are missing the point, if they moved the whole sim, that would be one thing, then everything and everyone would be moved en masse and intact and there would be much less resistance. Alas they are not moving the sims, you as an individual must move. Completely different proposition. It also ignores the issue of access, anyone not age verified and with payment info does not get in period. Peoples friends, business partners, employees etc, would find themselves cut off, some of them from their own land and/or builds,... Access is by far a bigger issue than physical location, the two together are likely to split SL for good,..

@Trillia No, I don't complain. I move on. But for mature sims to be located like that is idiotic.
I do worry that it'll affect mature businesses in a competition sense as they'll be closer.
Plus side to that, though: they'll be forced to either buff up their products or lower their prices to give them a competitive edge. Much like real businesses.
Clubs, however.. not sure about that. I can only imagine the smaller clubs will tank.

From: Wynochee LeShelle And about what your kids are able to talk with me? Lacan, Bataille, Wittgenstein? Gotthard Guenther? Boris Groys? Sloterdijk? Bauhaus Architecture? The construction of the Farnsworth House? Euclidian Geometrics? How Hendrix created his guitar-playing-technique? Political issues? Woodstock? The 1968s students revolution? The newest building and scripting tricks? The chances of Croatia to reach EU member status? Well, I was talking about that kind of stuff and freaking adults out about it when I was 12. But that was back before Dr Adder was written, Cyberpunk wasn't invented yet, and the student revolution and Jimi Hendrix were current events more of interest to kids than adults. There's people 12-going-on-40, and people who never mature past 15. Intellectual accomplishments are a side issue distracting from the legal ones.

My bad. I thought they were moving whole sims.
Points of mine still remain valid, though.

From: Wynochee LeShelle I will mute her when she starts to talk about non-euclidian-geometrics, because that is able to hit my most sensitive and sensible private point in a way wich would be far too much for me.

From: Cristopher Lefavre There are in reality 2 kinds of adult content: (Violence-)Porn and Art.
We know what constitutes porn: The mindless display of body parts and sexual activity, or the mindless display of blood and violence, where the motive of the work is just to make money.
Sexuality and violence are on the other hand strong forces in humans, and so a lot of mindful artwork has been created that captures the beauty of human beings and provokes self-insight and public debates around these areas.
There are borderline cases to be sure, but most works falls neatly into one of those categories.
Problems then arises: I would consider Quentin Tarantino's movie "Pulp Fiction" to be a work of art, but it does contain scenes with lots of blood and gore. Some people will certainly be offended by it.
I would consider Salvador Dali's picture «One Second Before Awakening from a Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate» to be a work of art, but it does contain a drawing of a nude women. Some people may be offended by it.
My nightmare vision of the thoughts that LL is now doing is that every depiction of nudity and violence that may offend someone will be force moved to the red light district, effectively shunning it out of SL because most artists will not like their work to be associated with porn. I have no problem avoiding porn in SL, but I guess I would if I had to search for art exhibitions in the middle of an «adult continent» filled with porn shops.
Another effect this will have is to create a marketplace for porn in SL, actually raising the number of porn-related SIM's and the use of SL as a platform for porn.
So please, even if it makes it harder to enforce: Dont do a syntactic definition of adult content. Make sure artistic impressions are still free to be displayed outside the porn continent. Blondin This is exactly the thought I was having when I said erotic art should be allowed to remain on the mature current land, where as porn should be removed to the adult area, although some will find offence at anything even slightly risque, the majority will not. Being to strict with classification will force most mature adults to adult areas, when they have no real desire to access extreme adult content, something that should be avoided. Cristopher put forward some excellent examples, of the distinction between art and porn.

If LL wants to increase there customerbase (>80.000 online users avg), then harder steps are needed to reach this goal;
1/ remove ALL adult & XXX content from the mainland (everything!) 2/ allow private estates owners to use adult & xxx content (but age verification/identification must be acquired before teleporting into such a sim)
the advantage is that the teengrid and the common grid can be consolidated into 1 maingrid without the hassle of adult content interfering this joint! (this would also decrease the complexity for LL)
example : parents and there children can then access the grid together and will boost education at the other side in a very positive way!
I cant understand that ADULT & XXX content is blocking business-progress for LL! If I would be the puppetmaster at the top, the first action would be to delete all of this content and I would certainly not be open to go into discussion! This would open (YES FINALLY) a new door for a new strong customer base, a base with more educated and normal thinking people (creators, educators, etc ....), a pity then for the rest, but if we see what idiot things are being done in SL, sometimes I feel ashamed to be part of this world!!
PS. to the people that would react, yes LL would loose business in first instance, but seen as an investment the ROI would be visible soon! one customer base out (low profit/high maintenance) - another customer base in (high profit/low maintenance)
have a nice day, wildcat furse

From: Vahn Dagger My sentiments exactly. But you have to agree that it's rather annoying to fly from a nice, safe PG zone to a Mature zone with half-naked people.
I have my moods where I don't want to put up with it. Moving the sims is a good idea now that I think about it, but the age verification is the part I don't get. They're not moving the sims. You're still going to be able to fly from a PG zone to a mature zone with naked people. The naked people just won't be allowed to bonk in public any more outside the Adult continent.

From: Rayne Keynes On another note, one of my employees had an issue tonight, he is 22, has played SL for 18 months, has a credit card on file and buys L$ regularly directly from LL,.... no age verification for him,.. system failed him and he lives in the US.
Then he doesn't have a problem, age verification won't be necessary if you have PIOF.

@ Vahn ... I agree it is idiotic as to the placement of PG and mature rated areas.
This ' proposed ' new continent for adult content will be the ruin of many smaller business / club owners for the reasons you mentioned. Not to mention the lag created by forcing them all into the same area, ruining many peoples enjoyment of SL.
Then, when you add in the combat areas classed as ' adult ' by reason of violence, they will be the worst affected by the lag as far as I understand as to how it works. Can anyone who participates in combat elaborate on this?
Cheers, Trilla

From: Argent Stonecutter No, and it shouldn't. PI is not proof of age. Age verification does not mean you have PIOF. It will not show up in your profile. From: Argent Stonecutter Then he doesn't have a problem, age verification won't be necessary if you have PIOF. From the closed thread, 03-13-2009, 11:19AM - Blondin Linden: From: Blondin Linden The idea is that there will be multiple ways to become verified. You will be considered adult verified if you have payment info with Linden, payment info with Xstreet or a verified Paypal account. I believe that the Paypal accounts will satisfy some of the comments by Europeans. If you already have payment info on file with Linden or any of the above, you will be considered adult verified./QUOTE] and at 12:58PM, same day - From: Blondin Linden If your credit card is already on file, then you have nothing to worry about./QUOTE]
I know this doesn't help the folk who don't want to put their credit card info on the Net, but it may be useful for anyone who is prepared to use their card to buy a few Linden$, or who could open a verified Paypal account.
By the way, I'm keeping a .pdf copy of the original quotations, just in case...!

At least i see me bothered to threw my own two pence in here, since i'am in SL and also finaly upgraded my starter 'basic account' to be a 'premium account' i have to read this all thingies about some puritan/ Antiadult/ antimature yellers and ppls complaining about sexual, violent and whatever stuff is to find in SL on mature SIMs i'am quite more then annoyed.
as an manager from a RP combat, sex SIM with very violent and also sexual contents in the roleplay and stuff i need to say to those which not wanna have it to watch or visiting simply this ( Get out of SIM and play somewhere else) and i banned allready a few from my SIM and those they yelled at and complained while they
a: heard they are in exist,
b: watched a few minutes what's going on in those SIMs
c: feeling harmed just while beeing there or shortly TPed in and saw someone got tortured ICly and stuff whatever.
d: Cause they simply have the need to complain about everything doesn't fit to them and their thougths and feelings.
so in summary nearly everyone in SL claims to be a adult or acts this way and also full in health of mind able to decide by themselfes what they wanna see and what not get punished cause of some very few pples still pointing fingers and complaining the same way like they did now since years about nearly everything adult and Mature.
let's simply see a alloverall summary what they want have SL to be is like 'Disneyland (c)' all fluffy and shiney and like a giant childgarden with flowers and butterflys fluttering around and stufd. I must say if this is the way they want to have it.....then i realy need to think about to downgrade my account to 'basic' again and finally leave SL, and be assured, with me alot, realy alot other peoples will follow the same way.

wildcat furse That's what they're doing, and there are now 166 pages and almost 2500 posts, most of which are screaming NO! Move the PG people, the kids and the intolerant's to their own continent. Either way you and they are going to cut off access for thousands and THAT will kill the SL economy. If you want to spend time with your kids, get BOTH of your asses off the computer and go do it. The adults want their private time, leave us alone! Or better yet, turn the teen grid into your PG utopia and you anyone else that doesn't want to be in the adult world can go play there,...

@Wildcat I think they have enough worries considering pedophiles as it is. Merging the grids would be a horrible idea.
@Argent Yeah. Someone's already cleared that up for me.

@Argent Yeah. Someone's already cleared that up for me. Merging the grids may be a horrible idea, but that is what they are going to do. There is simply no other rational/logical reason to disrupt the majority of the user base. I firmly believe and no one can say otherwise, that the adult industries, not just pron but all of them, are the majority of the economy and user base in SL.

have a nice day, wildcat furse SL was created for people to create whatever people wanted and to live whatever fantasy dream they had. Regardless of what it might be. That was the pitch that SL gave and people came to SL because of it. One should realize.. that if you allow people to make whatever they want.. they will create some adult enviroments. So you shouldn't cripple that or limited it anyway and just let them do what they want. It's your world.. you make it into whatever you want. The moment we start limiting what you can do with it, is the moment SL can't keep saying that we can do whatever we want. Instead of preaching for the removal of all adult content, why not help come up with solutions for all of us to co-exist without intefering in other people's SL daily lives. hm?

Rayne, you are speaking outta my hearth and i fully agree, those realy want only see PG or whatever SIMs should be the ones beeing limited not those which are adults and wanna enjoy their freetime in SL without beeing threatened and stuff by ignorant and also unflexible so as intolerant ppls.

From: Vahn Dagger Ah. Thanks. Any ETA on when these changes will take place? Other than what I've posted at @ 2482, no, I'm sorry. I imagine all will be made clear *coughs and splutters, and tries not to laugh* when LL tell us how they've decided to implement the changes.

simply offer a g rated setting
03-26-2009 06:16
If the problem truly is to keep offended people out of regular areas then offer them the option of flagging their avi as g only. set up sims to prevent or ban themselves from entering normal adult areas and searching into normal adult areas.
Then they will never run into an area they are uncomfortable in. This is the way the Untied States Government sets up Parental controls with the v chip in televisions. I see no need to go beyond that.
I would imagine traffic to adult areas is 85 percent of sl not 2 to 4. Such an estimate isn't believable and appears agenda driven.
It would also serve to diminish revenues to LL as it would take most of the residents to the adult areas causing the remaining businesses to haveto pay for two stores instead of one and set up double advertising and duplicate all their work without compensation. Without compensation the residents would be forced to cut spending in SL to offset the added costs in time and money.
I think it would be a good candidate for a class action lawsuit to prevent.
I live in a small town and value my privacy. This is my outlet for my fantasies and I put a lot of myself into it. I have found in a year that most of the places I visit in SL are Adult in nature unless it is an empty (please read as utterly boring) sim. There are a lot of empty sims, filled with uninteresting content. Perhaps LL should look at where people go and they will see that there is a far greater interest in normal adult activity not g rated places. Off to work for me rl! I am all in a dither over this, but If I have to move I will definately spend fewer Lindens here in protest.

I have my moods where I don't want to put up with it. Moving the sims is a good idea now that I think about it, but the age verification is the part I don't get. then the answer would be don't fly to mature. that's like going to an R-rated movie, and complaining about the nudity.
