Anyone who wishes further details on how "Cytherea Eagle" is a crook is quite welcome to google regarding the matter - it has already been delineated in these forums, actually, and in many other places. I would certainly not wish to spoil the purity of RA with such rot.

I do think there's unfinished business in this thread--whole categories of terms that are needed in the licenses including matters such as privacy, security and limits on collection and use of avatar data, anti-spam provisions, etc.; how those restrictions are binding on the licensees; and the means for LL to detect violation of such provisions.
I'm really not qualified to usefully contribute to those issues, but they're pretty important aspects of these licenses.

I'm not an anthropologist, but I'm not aware of any first nations traditional claims and/or treaties with respect to advertising or extortion in virtual worlds. However, at this point, we're flying completely blind without Jack's guidance. I mean, we made many many proposals for this very issue for months, and we had no clue along the way what, if any, that we suggested was really going to be put to use, so it was difficult.. nay, impossible, to refine them. As such, I am waiting for JACK, well, to put it bluntly, to follow through. Until then, we're all kinda hanging, blowing in the breeze. JAAAAACCCCKKK!!! YO! Make it go! |

Actually, whether or not a given law is broken depends on where the act takes place. If something is done in the UK the person committing the act is subject to British law. In the United States or in Second Life (since LL is a company in California) American law applies. In the Republic of Lakota their law applies. And so on. The only exception to this is if you are a diplomat, and embassies are technically considered the soil of their countries anyways. Doing something on the net does put forth some unique situations. Essentially you have different parties (the end users) operating in different legal venues. Even if none of them are in the US they are on a US company's servers so subject to those restrictions as well. Of course, you can simplify the problem by only having clients/servers in one country, but that is not reality. But we are getting a bit off the topic of ad farms ..... although it would be amusing for the thread to pass 1,0000 posts. |
