Hmmmmm.... So, what makes this true, and makes the Mayo Clinic study a lie?

Quackwatch has the Vitamin D Council on its "questionable organizations" list:

So much for being on ignore.

Anyway, the reason I posted the Mayo Clinic link is that non-standard doses of vitamin D *supplements* can cause toxicity, so folks shouldn't just gobble vitamin D as if it were some magical candy. That said, because vitamin D3, specifically, is generated in the skin naturally from exposure to sunlight, small doses of D3 dietary supplements may be useful for some people especially during winter at high latitudes, whereas individuals with metabolic disorders may require much larger dosages year round.

It is not possible for dark skinned people to get enough sunlight in the northern hemisphere to produce the required vitamin D level.

Dark Skin Require More Sun Exposure for Vitamin D.

Then tell me which post it was that I made that I said it was a "conspiracy".
All of them.

Pep (How many months of the year have 28 days? See below.)

PS zOMG!!! Too much vitamin D can kill you!!!

PPS It's the absolute danger that matters, not a question of the frequency, Kenneth.

PPPS All of them.

It's not a function of hemisphere but of latitude (and season, and duration of sunlight exposure) in either hemisphere.

She's probably right for Wales though.

Pep (How can you tell it's summer in Wales? The rain is warmer.)

You need to be careful with that type of reasoning. Many women were given DES in the 50s to prevent miscarriages. Daughters born of such pregnancies had an above average risk of cancer in their 20s and later, sons have a much lower risk. As it happens, the most significant risk is a particular type of otherwise rare cervical cancer.

The mere fact that boys and girls are affected by something at different rates doesn't by itself prove that something like MMR isn't the cause. The interactions could be more complicated.

No; that doesn't wash. Boys can't get cervical cancer because they don't have cervices. There's a tangible, immediately-identifiable reason for the discrepancy there. Autism, on the other hand, is ostensibly a brain disease - and both boys and girls have brains.

Cody, I hope your mom didn't need to take DES.

"Boys born to mothers who took DES may experience abnormal, though non-cancerous, growths on their testicles."

They just get used differently.

Pep (Sorry kid, those are grown up brains.)

PS I managed to get the other thread closed down; do we want to let this one continue?

Children become autistic around the age of two years. The parents generally say that their child became autistic shortly after a vaccination when a few days before they were quite normal. Why is it that the Amish population do not have any children that have autism. Because they do not let their kids get vaccinated. However, they do have four children that are autistic, three of which were adopted and all four had vaccinations.

http://www.infowars.com/articles/science/autism_none_for_unvaccinated_amish.htm

I just wanted to comment on this. I have had three children between 1995 and 2005. All boys, two were diagnosed with autism well before their second birthday. From birth I could tell they were "not normal" and something was wrong. Long before any vaccines came into play. My first was diagnosed at about 15 months. My third was diagnosed at 13 months. Anyway I don't claim to be an autism or vaccine expert, but did want to make that statement.

I don't go anywhere except to the grocery store. Yet I still caught that crap and it lasted for a month and caused me to give up on making stuff for Halloween.

Nobody is safe. No matter what you do you are real likely to catch it. You best be working on making your body better situated to fight it. Defense is the only solution.

And if you do catch it then get your will and affairs in order immediately because you might really die because there is nothing anyone can do to save you. It is all up to your body's ability to fight it.

Sorry for the extreme bummer reality break but that is exactly the way things are.
