I'm getting the H1N1 vaccination ASAP. I'm in a prime age group, I work closely with people in the prime age group, I get hugs, handshakes, kisses and all kindsa body contact and I know it's a dreadful flu that sucks the life right out of you. I also feel that getting the shot shows you are socially responsible so you dont spread the virus wherever you go. I dont believe any of the urban myth scare stories that the shot is dangerous.

So what are you gonna do? I'm getting vaccinated - are you?

Recovering from it right now, so nope, no point.

I got the regular flu vaccine last week, like I always do. I'm not getting into this swine flu hype machine. Just another money making scheme for big pharma if you ask me. Plus, while I don't believe the vaccine scare stories, I believe our government's assertions even less on this whole situation.

here at least it is impossible to get the shot they have out for weeks.

DOesnt matter in my case I am one of those weird people that gets the full blown flu from any flu shot so I aint risking it. I had swine flu as a kid I so dont want a repeat.

I've never even thought about flu vaccines before but I intend to get the swine flu one when it's available.

Jig, ever thought of hosting an Oprah-like show on SLTV?

(BTW people allergic to eggs should at least know: the flu vaccine is incubated in them.)

Getting over it. It was the most ridiculously mild flu I ever had, but then, I'm 45 and my immune system was all 'yeah yeah' about it. Then I got bronchitis afterward. THAT is still kicking my tail, a week and a half later, and even though it's pretty much gone I do not want a third opportunist infection.

Oh, and there was no way to get vaccinated in time for me, even if I wanted to. Orange County California... the vaccine's finally getting here in some quantity but unless you were in a high risk group... forget getting it, up till recently.

Oddly enough the kids had varied reactions to it. Note: my kids are mixed Eurasian, with both parent's immune system strengths, which means they barely get *anything*. Ever. Maybe a day out with a fever and that's *it*. They don't know what an extended illness is, literally. Their friends (and parents) drop sick like flies for days at a time and they just can't figure out why.

The Princess was feverish for maybe a day... the middle child was out for a day albeit with a very high fever briefly (103) and then he was right back at seemingly full health the next day... I had to force him to rest, fearing the fever's return. As for my youngest: totally and utterly symptomless at 12 years of age. I swear, he's practically bulletproof; there's no way he wasn't exposed to the rest of us. Meanwhile, this same bug is overflowing the hospital beds.

Jig depending on your immune system it's entirely possible you will totally shrug it off... though everyone around you might still be able to catch it if you had it. I think the vaccine would be the responsible thing to do ~ I hear there's a flu mist one, that isn't a jab (ouch!).

No use doing that now - met the pig plague back in June. Quite unpleasant.

I'm one of the emergency planners for my office, so I get all the traffic on this across my desk.

The H1N1 flu is widespread almost everywhere in the USA at this point. That makes it, by definition, a "severe pandemic".

However, it is not "severe" in the sense that a lot of people are dying from it. This flu does not appear to be any worse than the normal seasonal flus, thank goodness.

If you're not sick, and can get vaccinated, I would do so. But if you can't get the vaccine, or choose to take your chances, you will almost certainly be OK. You might have a "bug" for a few days, miss a little work...but that is probably all.

Besides the vaccine, your best defense is cleanliness. Wash your hands several times a day. Don't touch your mouth and nose with your hands.

Your best preparation for getting sick is to have an SL-capable computer at your bedside or by the family room sofa. :)

I have to many concerns about injecting a live virus into my system, along with the thimerosal in it... they might claim oh it's not dangerous, but it's the same amount as all the other shots they've pulled from market because of it.

What really disgusts me is there is a shortage of the vaccine... and yet when I look at the lineups half the people trying to get it do not fall into the priority list.... come on people WAIT till mid November when it's widely available, instead of using up the short supply out now that is needed by the young children, pregnant women, and weak immune systems.

Had my (free and painless) injection just this morning but I was told it was a synthetic flu' vaccine, not the "live" type. I was also told that it would be highly unlikely that I would feel any symptoms from it.

Fingers crossed.

I have never got a flu shot. Except in the 70's.. yes Im that old. I dont see that I will to be honest.

I have an obsession with washing my hands, I was a hairstylist for 20 years.... maybe that wont keep it at bay but I also dont have a lot of contact with people....

i will get the shot when it becomes available...it is realllly bad here...lots and lots of people down with it and people dying. most that are dying are young and healthy but have something like asthma etc. scary stuff. i have asthma so im not messin around with this one.

btw the young ones here who are healthy and dying are having it for a very short time...maybe 2 or 3 days and then just dying. it seems it can go straight to your lungs and cause havoc that your body is not able to recover from easily.

Could be but I rather doubt it as I'm a "senior" (hate that term) with underlying health problems.
I was at my doctors on an unrelated visit and happened to mention it as there were posters up in the practice about it. She sent me to the nurse who did it right there and then.
Great service.

If it's limited in supply, my kid and my husband get it first. I can afford to be down for a week or two.. but I don't WANT either of them down for even a day, if it can be avoided. If it's not limited, of course, I'm getting the vaccine.

I caught swine 'flu last July, so it's too late for me. (I wasn't very sick - no worse than the usual 'flu.)
