Woah!! Easy there, Deb!!

edit: /me quotes wikipedia..

From: Teh Intertubes
Quackery is a derogatory term used to describe unproven or fraudulent medical practices. Random House Dictionary describes a "quack" as a "fraudulent or ignorant pretender to medical skill" or "a person who pretends, professionally or publicly, to have skill, knowledge, or qualifications he or she does not possess; a charlatan."

The word "quack" derives from the archaic word "quacksalver," of Dutch origin (spelled kwakzalver in contemporary Dutch), meaning "boaster who applies a salve." In the Middle Ages the word quack meant "shouting". The quacksalvers sold their wares on the market shouting in a loud voice.

"Health fraud" is often used as a synonym for quackery, but this use can be problematic, since quackery can exist without fraud, a word which implies deliberate deception.

Quick! Fix their mistakes!!!

edit edit: hm.. curiouser and curiouser..

quack2  /kwæk/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [kwak] Show IPA
–noun 1. a fraudulent or ignorant pretender to medical skill.
2. a person who pretends, professionally or publicly, to skill, knowledge, or qualifications he or she does not possess; a charlatan.

–adjective 3. being a quack: a quack psychologist who complicates everyone's problems.
4. presented falsely as having curative powers: quack medicine.
5. of, pertaining to, or befitting a quack or quackery: quack methods.

–verb (used with object) 6. to treat in the manner of a quack.
7. to advertise or sell with fraudulent claims.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Origin:
1620–30; short for quacksalver

From: www.answers.com
Did the quacksalver hawk their concoctions of quicksilver (mercury) as a panacea to earn the name quacksalver? While the connection with quicksilver is enticing, it's their duck-like behavior while peddling the snake oil that gave us this colorful synonym for a charlatan. Imagine someone mounted on a bench, holding vials of solutions in assorted colors while claiming to cure everything from chronic backpain to pyorrhea to migraine, and you'd have a good idea of a quacksalver. In fact, this image is the source of another term for these cure-alls: mountebank. It comes to us from Italian montimbanco, from montare (to climb) and banco (bench). In modern times, these hucksters have adapted to use technology. Today our mailbox might be filled with email messages quacking about the efficacy of nostrums for weight-loss, enlarging certain body-parts, improving memory, and curing anything else that ails humankind. -Anu

No you go to hell. Its idiots like you that kill people. All I have posted in this thread can be proved. All you have done is show your dislike of Muslims. Your time would be much better spent getting the nutrition Africans get improved. Its idiots like you that want all aids patients in Africa be given a drug like AZT when the drug is so poisonous it was banned even for cancer patients because it kills every cell in the body and was never patented at the time because the drug companies never thought they would find a way of using it. Well the good news is that its only aids patients that take the drug that seem to die, not the ones that don't and make sure they get good nutrition. You're full of it.

Yes

Do you even know where the term quack came from. In the 1800's the medical profession would give sick people mercury to heal them. Quick silver is another name for mercury. Over time the Quick turned into Quack. Like I said previously, get educated.

Oh dear . . .

Yeah, sorry, Debra. I know for a fact that "quack" had currency in the Renaissance and 17th century. I'd be happy to cite you some texts if you'd like.

Are all of your "facts" this well attested?

What is so amazing is how little someone like you knows. For example, the 1918 Influenza outbreak was caused by a vaccine being given to American soldiers before they departed to Europe.

And here I was thinking trench warfare, poor sanitation, and massive movements of people carrying exotic strains of disease around the world were factors. Silly me. It was immunizations for a strain of flu that was not the same one as the epidemic.

You don't know me. You don't know what I do or do not know. You keep posting links to unproven assertions, pseudoscience, and wishful thinking that is in direct opposition to the actual, peer-reviewed research on the subject.

I hesitate to participate in flame wars, but I must agree. This evil kills people.

No, colloidal silver is very cheap and can easily be made at home. It's expensive when bought ready made and probably be older than 3 months, so no longer effective as the silver particles are no longer in suspension. The fact that you do not believe that there is lots of evidence that colloidal silver works I suppose is the reason that silver is now being impregnated into plasters to put on wounds. Stop lying about this.

This product called Super Silver has taken it a step further by surrounding the silver with oxygen making it even more effective and when combined with anti-biotics that no longer work because of resistens, the anti-biotics suddenly work again as if by magic. There is years of scientific research on this product that has also been peer reviewed. In fact, they have a gel version of it that is used by the US military for combat woulds to stop infections in the battlefield and while wounded soldiers are being cared for. But hey, the FDA won't approve it for human use, just for animals because they can't stop that. Guess they forgot to tell the Pentagon, or could it be that the pentagon knows the FDA is full of crap and controlled by the drug companies. BTW. the FDA won't allow the makers of the product to publish their research.

http://www.truehealthfacts.com/SuperSilver/SuperSilver.html

But you carry on believing all the drug company propaganda

Show me the documentation. The FDA does not control publishing of studies, entries to journals are peer reviewed and ultimately published by the journal editor. There are medical journals published all over the world, far beyond the reach of the FDA. If there was one ounce of scientific proof, it would be out there.

Show me the documentation.

Maybe you'd like to explain why outbreaks of polio in Africa happen just when the UN decides to do some vaccinations. You see the one thing that cannot be denied is that there will always be some batches of vaccines that have live viruses in them causing the outbreak. So even if I am wrong, and you are right, vaccinations cause the outbreaks. Now you know why it will never be eradicated as long as people are vaccinated. One of the best studies done was in Finland with whooping cough vaccine where the authorities vaccinated and caused outbreaks. They then stopped for ten years without any outbreaks. They then started again and the outbreaks started again.

Stop being so dumb and get educated.

Well, in her defense, something I'm pretty reluctant to come to, the pharma industry isn't exactly a bunch of benign grandmothers, intent only on keeping everybody safe.

That said.. Yeah.. Crazier than Prok after a henhouse raid..

Partly true. The pharmaceuticals industry, like every industry, is about profit. For them and their shareholders. They are not in business solely for humanitarian reasons...although many humanitarians work in that industry.

But let's keep in mind that "profit" does not equate to "evil". Yes, the companies want to make money. But they are well aware that they cannot remain in business in the long run if they harm their customers with their products. The nutters who say "the drug companies are out to make me/my kids/my friends/my co-religionists sick" are flat out batshit crazy.

Do drugs cause side effects or bad reactions in some people? Yep. It says so right on their labels. Should I not take them because of that? In most cases, that's a poor decision, because the chances of a bad reaction are very low, and the good the stuff is going to do you is worth the small risk.

My brother works in the pharmaceutical industry. I know exactly what sort of testing and re-testing and re-re-testing new products have to go through before they get FDA approval and can be prescribed.

Bad stuff can happen when you take medications. Allergic reactions, side effects. Maybe your doctor misdiagnosed you. You could get a bad batch. The pharmacist might misread the prescription, or the dosage. All of us run these risks, even with over the counter drugs. BUT THE RISKS ARE OUTWEIGHED BY THE BENEFITS.

People who tell you otherwise are generally people who have happened to experience one of the bad things that can, on occasion, happen...and simply MUST find someone to lay the blame on. Not always...there are always the very small minority who manage to uncover something...a cover up, a case of bribery, an intemperate rush to market...but you will almost NEVER find such a crusader by their blogs or forum posts or sensational books. The ones who are actually on to something and in the right have lawyers, not the court of public opinion, fighting their battles.

Do you really believe that. Maybe you missed the minutes of a meeting of drug company executives and scientists that was leaked to the US senate and is known to have taken place. Meaning it really did happen, where they discuss their research that clearly shows that the vaccines cause autisim and then decide to make sure the public never find out. In fact, you really can't dispute that it does because the number of cases has increased as the number of vaccinations have increased.

See, the thing is that you got called on something you were shouting about just a few posts ago and haven't 'fessed up to being totally full of it and unedumicated youself.

If you learn how to do that, if you learn how to stand up and say "oops! I was wrong - sorry!", people will take you more seriously.

Until then, you're just a raving lunatic screaming about how UFOs abducted your sheep and gave them super powers to mentally control all the people in your town. Or whatever. If you insist on believing something, you *will* be able to find some site on the internet to back it up. That doesn't make it true.

The best you can come up with to support this is a web site that seems to have a primary purpose of selling seminars and products related to their views?

This is a better website to refer folks to: http://www.nationalautismassociation.org/thimerosal.php

You really need to learn how to debate things in an adult and logical manner.

I'm allegedly on the ignore list, so Debra won't see this, but I have to say - she is utterly deluded and probably mentally ill; certainly she is depending on other madmen and women for misinformation that is evil and destructive. I don't know what strange concatenation of circumstances has led her to these websites full of poison and lies, but all these lunatic ramblings are easily disproved and really only held to by a few people who must have ever greater drama in their lives. Probably it's a form of Munchausens, this desperate need for conspiracy and intrigue. I blame her parents and too great a liking for the X Files.

No its very simple. There is no evidence that vaccinations work, but there is huge evidence that they don't and that they are full of poisons. I have presented enough evidence, now you show some evidence that they do work. Where is it, I'm waiting. So until you can show some, the polio is gone not from vaccinations, but for other reasons.

All you people ever do is accuse people of being conspiracy theorists or some kind of nut. Just like with man made global warming where a few scientists that make a living while global warning is believed but over 30,000 scientists sign a petition stating that it is a load of crap. I guess they are all morons too and UFO believers. The problem is, that even NASA admits that the surface temperature of the earth has declined over the last 11 years and state that because of the lack of sun spot activity the temperature will decline for the next 30 years at least. But hey, those boy and girls working for NASA are just conspiracy nuts.

The reality is that people like you and most of the others here do not spend time looking into this sort of thing and believe the crap they hear on the main media.

Produce the evidence.

Just like pretty much all studies -- you can find one to support any position you wish. When it comes to medicines effects on people, we are all so different and there are so many variables, that it is about impossible to get a conclusive results.
