I would like to hear from people who are active in SL who don't do sex, who don't have boyfriends or girlfriends or lovers or whatever. I am married in RL to my SL partner. We met in SL, and not once did we have pixel sex, it was not an interest to either of us. We both enjoyed getting to know one another on other levels. And before him, and since I have been with him, I have no interest in that aspect of SL. Of course we would cuddle and such, but that is not pixel sex now is it... heh _____________________

I've been in SL for over a year and have done a lot of different things, but one constant is that it is difficult to not end up emotionally involved with somebody. "Emotionally" ... yeah I do mean sex but not only. I've met people who don't get involved and don't have pixel sex. I used to think it was strange, but lately I've been wanting to be that way too. This is going to sound really stupid, but I don't care: I want to know how do you do it? What do you do? It's easy to SAY to not do something or other, not respond, but I'm a social creature. I like people. I would like to hear from people who are active in SL who don't do sex, who don't have boyfriends or girlfriends or lovers or whatever. I've been in SL for over 4 years and have never had a problem not being involved with anybody. I have no use for pixel sex. I'm 15 years married, I get all I want. This statement you made "I've met people who don't get involved and don't have pixel sex. I used to think it was strange", kinda makes it sound like the main thing you think SL is for is sex. Well I guess I'm doing it wrong then, but then I don't want to be right. I enjoy the creative collaboration aspect of this huge sandbox. I'm here for the tech. I've had this conversation with people before where they want to overshadow the tech with the social aspect, but there wouldn't be a social aspect without the tech and they couldn't seem to get their head around that. I think the mindset that SL is mainly for sex is strange, so therefore it's easy for me to not have anything to do with it and still have a *very* full SL. People who equate SL with sex or adult themes either make their money from that segment of people or lack imagination. I could be in SL 24/7/365, stay busy and not do a single thing I wouldn't want my pre-teen to see. As far as how you do it (or I guess that would translate into how you don't do it), it's easy. Treat people with respect and expect them to give you respect back. Don't send out flirty signals if you're not interested in following through, just like in RL. People don't like teases. No means no. Same as it's usage any other way. Other than that I don't know what other information you're looking for. I guess my mindset is that SL without sex is more like a chocolate shake without anchovies. |

What bothers me here and now is that I asked a simple question and you ruined it. And I will take a shot at the question... I do have someone special, but we don't engage in "SL sex". We explore interesting sims, build stuff, experiment with particles, scripting, try to solve quest-style adventures on the grid like Numbakulla, play with different kinds of avatars, or visit with friends. I would second the suggestion of different types of avatars. Wearing an alternative avatar such as a dragon, robot, animal, alien or tiny not only discourages the horndogs, it also can be a ticket to meeting a new and interesting group of people. A couple of examples are Avaria, home of Grendel's Children, where you can meet all kinds of creatures large and small, and Raglan, where the tinies are super welcoming and loads of fun. _____________________

I'm honestly not sure how to respond to this. How can the urge to have simulated sex be so powerful that you have to ask strangers for advice on how to avoid doing it? If advice is needed, though, then I'd suggest the following:
- Trash all prim genitals in your inventory - Trash all simulated sex animations in your inventory - Trash all simulated sex scripts from furniture - Say "no" if people ask you to have simulate sex - Finally, judging from how much you're stomping your feet about how your thread has been "ruined" by some transparent and easily-ignored trolling, you might want to grow up a little bit I'd think that would pretty much cover it. |
