If it were me I would apologise. Ideally in a written note to the sim's Gorean Administrator. (Keep a copy.) It sounds to me like they wandered in ignoring notecards and signs and then took the piss. Your friend's smart alec comments may have actually really upset someone and imho this would be the best way to defuse the situation and make amends. In no way do I approve of the stalking and comments these Goreans have made since the incident, it's totally unacceptable. However in the interests of solving this issue and because she did start it I think this is her best way forward. An alternative may just be to leave it a few days. It will probably just go away on it's own. If these people continue to be abusive after she's apologised ARs are definitely in order and there IS a Gorean Council who can be approached too for help. If you've written to the Gor Administrator of the sim involved then this shows some respect for their role-playing and will be taken better I believe than just a 'sorry' in chat. I agree that the behaviour probably was offensive in the first place even if not understanding the nature of what people wander into. I also agree with the point that a lot of Gorean builds can be exceptionally pretty. Not sure I think people who are not into Gor should have to petition any council of Gor etc or anything else. All roleplay is consensual - the notices saying that you can be 'captured' for going there apply to the sim - unless she's developing a taste for the roleplay then she should simply ignore it and learn from the experience. I should point out I have my own personal favourite roleplay places. If someone behaved like a jackass in those places - unless they were trying to shoot the place up - I'd just ignore them. If someone was making me feel uncomfortable with what was going on ... I'd leave. Mute is our friend. |

Tell her to go out and buy some knee high leather stiletto boots and a big whip, most 'big talkers' are just sissies really. Power tripping sexually repressed middle aged men role playing in a Gorean SIM aren't much of a threat.

In that case they should simply have muted her in the first place. Instead they chose to inflame the situation. I fear some role players take things far too seriously and seem very lacking in a sense of humour. What they do not seem to be able to realise is that other people will find them hillariously, ludicrously and overwhelmingly amusing and people will "take the piss" as you colloquially put it. Sadly most role-players 'realise' this every day. It's a side-effect of our accepting, diverse, and non-judgemental society. I think most people don't start being obnoxious unless faced with the especially humourless and rude type of roleplay person of any persuasion. Personally, I find the people I mute most often are women with "Mistress" above their head or in their title ... or ones who seem to think they are entitled to something. Mind you when crossed sufficiently the polite thanks but you're barking up the wrong tree doesn't cut it ... but that's not my problem, if someone thinks that they really *ARE* omnipotent to strangers that is not confined to roleplayers. |

I think my friend just didn't know about serious roleplayers in SL and didn't know anything about Gor. It so happens that I read some of the Gor novels long before I ever heard of Gorean roleplay, so I kind of knew what they were up to (although astonished that (1) they actually enjoy it and (2) are so humourless about it). I have no reason to get into a pissing match with anyone for no reason, so I stay away from Gor stuff.
I'm not sure if my friend just didn't notice the warnings or ignored them or didn't realise that they were serious. She was interested in the architecture and was wandering around and tried to chat casually with someone and it turned sour. What I wonder is how did they find her in a non-Gorean region in order to stare at her and send her creepy messages? Is this something that she should be concerned about? |

OOh thanks Chris. What's wrong with the class of person I attract Brenda? Nothing. That's the point. you referenced your dress in terms aof attracting Goreans, ,I merely postulated that it was of a higher level of attractiveness.....Oh never mind. Now I really have a headache...... _____________________

(although astonished that (1) they actually enjoy it and (2) are so humourless about it). I've only wandered into a Gorean sim once, but what I saw was a bunch of Masters and Panthers having a grand old time, and a bunch of slaves kneeling around watching. The Panther especially, showed a quick wit and a dry sense of humour. The Masters played along. The slaves looked bored. But at least they looked great. ![]() If these people are still following your friend, I would suggest that your friend apologize to them sincerely, and tell them she's not interested in Gor. That should be enough unless they're nutcases. I mean, how can you possibly capture slaves if they don't wear your combat system?? And then not have you RP along? When they say, "/me strips the slave and binds her to the post", it gets rather boring unless she actually takes her clothes off and hops on the furniture. ![]() Desmond's post was great. _____________________
You are definitely slutty in the best possible definitions of the word. Dirty, hot, and a little scary, but in a good way. I'd like do awful things to you, but I'm pretty sure you'd snap me in two like a twig and leave me cross-eyed, dizzy and confused. I'm giving you a 9.8, tied for the top rating ever given. Almost off-the charts slutty. Shame on you and congratulations. -- Trout

if she is on one of their sims she got pop up warnings on how to act or not to act she should just tp away rather then make it worse it is their sim and their rules Very true. I'm sure the offender wouldn't have appreciated someone coming into her home and causing trouble, yet it's all funny for her to do the same and then complain about it when it has to deal with a certain group such as Gor. She should have read the rules and either moved on or observed out of respect for others, instead it sounds like she acted like a kid. _____________________

... there have been Goreans showing up and just staring at her and then sending her messages like "you've been marked and claimed." I explained about Goreans to her, but obviously someone has been pissed off. What should she do? ... She could just kneel down and meekly accept her new life as a slave. Just to throwing out other options... ![]() _____________________

She should have read the rules and either moved on or observed out of respect for others, instead it sounds like she acted like a kid. I think it was more along the lines of -- "You very attractive, but I'll have to escort you out of here." and she replied "I don't need your help. I'm a big girl; I can take care of myself." "Oh, really? We'll see about that." I think it was just a big misunderstanding. As I said, I don't she's had much experience with role playing, so I don't think she really understood what was going on. |

"Oh, really? We'll see about that." Well it doesn't sound like they were horribly aggressive, then. I don't think there's anything too serious to worry about here, particularly if she hasn't tried apologizing yet. The thing to apologize for is messing up their RP. Sounds like she could honestly say that she didn't even really know what RP was, now she's asked friends about it, lalala. But she should definitely also tell them that they are now stalking her, and she does not appreciate it. I WOULD tell them an AR and complaint to their city Administrator is coming if they continue, but of course that is her choice. I don't know why Goreans in particular tend to attract soooooo many humorless types. I think it's more that everyone with a sense of humor cannot bear to stay because Gor is, as Des pointed out, inherently hilarious. Whoever said that Gor has a lot of software folks in it is right. It is based on a scifi set of novels, which of course were largely read by nerds (edit: oh and 14-year old boys, scifi's sweet spot target market. Which MIGHT be the types who are bugging her.)Nerds really should know better than to lose track of their sense of humor. |
