Quick advice needed: What to do if you get in trouble with Goreans?

A friend of mine apparently had never heard of Goreans and knew nothing about them and wandered into one of their regions without seeing the warnings. When they asked her to leave, she made some smart ass remarks and since then there have been Goreans showing up and just staring at her and then sending her messages like "you've been marked and claimed."

I explained about Goreans to her, but obviously someone has been pissed off. What should she do? Will they keep following her or were they just trying to put a scare into her?

Quick advice needed. Thanks for your help.

Ignore them. Tell them to piss off. Continue to mock them if they set one tiny tiny toe outside their little pocket realities. AR them mercilessly if they send a single harassing IM.

She has several different options.

1) Point and laugh. Unless she consents the most they can do is harass her. AR them
2) Mute them. If she can't hear them, then can't claim her.
3) Point and laugh. Always a good option.

Make sure she has a home location set. This will allow her to tp away quickly if she wishes.

Sitting on a plywood box is pretty much the way to defeat most weapons.

Just make sure when she sees them she points and laughs.

Note, I have nothing against Goreans, but to try and take it out of their little realm is a sign that this group of them is wound a little too tight.

if she is on one of their sims she got pop up warnings on how to act or not to act

she should just tp away rather then make it worse

it is their sim and their rules

1) Laugh

2) Threaten them that they will have their capes taken away

3) AR them for harassment if it is bothering her

4) Mute

5) Remember not to go to Gorean sims as it tends to attract the kind of men who like this sort of thing

6) Tell them that your pet sleen will bite their xcite and eat it for supper

Reminds me of... who was it... was it Groucho Marx? Said something to the effect of "Any club that would have me as a member isn't worth joining".

It's kinda true here, though. Guilt by association often isn't fair. But it's generally fairly accurate all the same. Funny how that works out.

Definitely consider an AR for harrassment if they continue to stalk her and make their strange Gorean threats. Witnesses to the harrassment should also report it. They will probably go away of their own accord if she ignores them though.

She should laugh...a LOT...and then, in the sweetest possible tone, tell them she's going to make them all her little pack of man-bitches.

I guarantee at least ONE of them will stroke out on the spot.

I doubt they will keep following her, unless she's being antagonistic.

Here are some possible choices:

1) Say: Hey, this is all cool guys, nothin' personal, I'm going shopping. And forget it ever happened. Likely so will they.

2) Continue to ridicule and mock them, and possibly run afoul of the service terms (harrassing another resident). Not the wisest course...

3) NOT THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS, but Purely Hypothetically...

..."M'lord, I am new to your ways, but I find them strangely enchanting..."

*goreans drag you into their camp*

"This is your new master. You will learn our ways."

"Oh, YES Master!!!!!111"

*three days pass*

"Master, this girl really, really, really wants the expensive clothing."

"Even More, slave? I have spent a fortune on thee..."

"Yes Master."

*hours of shopping pass*

"Master, this girl wishes to learn more about Gor."

"Slave, I have read you the book four times. Again!?"

"Again, O master!"

"Sigh... fine."

*the following day*

"O master... wouldst thee be troubled if this girl was actually a man? You said you lived in Toledo. This girl's truck will be driving through Toledo tomorrow. May we meet, O master?"

I think it's likely that your friend ignored warnings that she did receive. Whether visiting Gor via TP or flying, I've always received notification of some kind. Tell your friend that if she's going to just randomly wander around, she should be wary of ignoring messages and notecards. It is profoundly rude to simply show up in an RP sim, ignore the rules of the sim, not wear an observer/visitor tag, and make smartass remarks to the residents.

If they show up again, check their profiles and see if they belong to a Gorean city. If they do, she should ask the name of the admin of the city and tell them she's not only ARing them, but also reporting them to the admin for harassing a resident of Earth (lol!).

They may be just wandering slavers. In which case she should tell them that she apologises if she offended them in her previous visit, has no intention of going back, and, again, is ARing them for harassing her.

Then do AR them. She was rude ... which only entitles them to be rude back. It does not entitle them to stalk her.

I wouldn't actually tell people I'm AR'ing them though. If they're sensible then it might be what they need to behave (but then simply apologizing or something else neutral would do the trick too), but if they're wanting to be a pain then it might just make matters worse.

Goreans play by strict roleplay rules, and when your friend enters their sims, she is entering their roleplay area. Folks there will likely treat her as if she has voluntarily consented to the roleplay by venturing past the port-in area.

If your friend is being harrased *inside* Gor, she needs to leave and not go back.

If your friend is being harrased outside of Gor, advise her to politely ask these people one last time to leave her alone. If they persist, have her file an abuse report on each person that is harrasing her.

Additionally, the few Gorean sim-owners I've met during the course of my lifetime in SL have been extremely reasonable, honorable people. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the folks that are harrasing your friend are rouge elements within their group. If your abuse report doesn't get you results, a respectful heads-up to the owner of the sim she visited might go a long way ;)

Good luck! :)

Goreans taking their roleplay outside their own sims is frowned upon by 'serious' Goreans. I think ther's even some sort of a Gorean council you can report these people to.
You can also IM me and if I'm inworld I'll come round and have some fun with them. Hunting Goreans outside of Gor sims used to be my main pastime, after they latched onto a friend of mine with the same kind of nonsense your friend is getting. They did eventually stop hassling her.

Saying that, mocking Goreans IN their own sims is rather silly.

Sometimes I think the rest of us should just give the forum to Desmond and let him answer every question.

He wins both for the helpfulness and the comedy sketches, making the rest of us pretty much superfluous.

Reminds me of my first forays into online chat a long time ago. We'd be minding our own business only to have someone appear asking for help cos they were being kidnapped, hotly pursued by some guy hounding them. Who was Gorean. And of course the answer was the same "What can I do?" "Mute him".

There is always the point about learning not to make smartarse remarks if you go somewhere which is obviously a roleplay area you've wandered into. It does mark people out as fresh meat of course.

Or at least if you do go somewhere and make smart arse remarks, to continue to make them if people start leaving their enclave and their rules and annoying you. I bet this lady was especially annoying to them somehow :)

Maybe she complained there was no red sugar and that their tavern was shoddy. I had a friend who spend all of three minutes looking at a Gorean definitions page, went to a Gorean chat room (calling himself Master Khazi, which will probably not mean a lot to non-UK people LOL) and complained that he would only be served RED sugar.

You should have seen the nasty, vicious argument that broke out as a result. We were quite stunned tbh because although he was technically griefing he was ever so polite about it. Had all these slave girls screeching blue murder at each other ... we were pretty gobsmacked at how all these feuds from the past all came up at so little provocation.

I will not name names, as said friend is alive and well in SL now, although he has never griefed anyone and has so far resisted the urge to go anywhere Gorean ... lol ...

I think I would just mute them - but if your friend wants a point and laugh animation, please tell her to IM me and I will supply.

*makes mental note: must drop Cherry that animation for going to the khazi...*

I had never really comprehended online role-playing (or for that matter realised it was quite widespread) until I encountered a Gorean Sim in my early day within Second Life (1995 with a different avatar).

My first impressions was that I was astounded at the sheer graphical beauty of the Gorean Sim builds, together with what I thought was quite high level scripting. That indicated to me the builders (and some followers)of this online role-play were (in all probability) talented software people in real life, and clearly of fairly high intelligence.

In addition there were very clear scripted warnings about the adult nature of such Sims, together with the facility to observe (via a tagged notice of some kind) and a clear initiation process of which I thought was designed to screen out unsuitable people including children (on the main grid)

It seems to me that the followers of Gor practice what is almost an alternative lifestyle and religion within their Sims, and in that vein take things very seriously.

Who am I to gainsay them their beliefs and entertainment. To enter (rather than observe) their world is to interact with them, and thus subject your self to their rules.

Perhaps Desmond is right (both options) Depending on your taste either surrender yourself to rule by a slave master, become a tiger or warrior in their outlands who attacks all on sight, or finally IM the Gorean group leader and explain the ways of Gor are not for you (in the first instance) and allow what has happened pass you by unless the harassment continues

If it were me I would apologise. Ideally in a written note to the sim's Gorean Administrator. (Keep a copy.) It sounds to me like they wandered in ignoring notecards and signs and then took the piss. Your friend's smart alec comments may have actually really upset someone and imho this would be the best way to defuse the situation and make amends.

In no way do I approve of the stalking and comments these Goreans have made since the incident, it's totally unacceptable. However in the interests of solving this issue and because she did start it I think this is her best way forward. An alternative may just be to leave it a few days. It will probably just go away on it's own.

If these people continue to be abusive after she's apologised ARs are definitely in order and there IS a Gorean Council who can be approached too for help. If you've written to the Gor Administrator of the sim involved then this shows some respect for their role-playing and will be taken better I believe than just a 'sorry' in chat.

Would you prefer the constipated version or the opposite?

I'm afraid I don't have a "point and vomit" - but I do have a "spit" - but you will have to add your own particle effects.
