I wasn't aware they needed an excuse. I wonder what's really causing the sour grapes about cross-gender avis: the fact that men (and women!) can play their chosen SL gender effectively to the point where no one can tell the difference, or the fact that too many people are on SL looking for real life hookups and get their bubble burst when they find out it can't go any further than virtual? If the former, so what? If the latter, how is that anyone's problem but their own?

Just because people have expectations of you (in any world), that doesn't mean their expectations are automatically justified. What they want is what THEY want. It may not be what you want or expect, so why would the desires of a stranger take precedence over your own?

If you want to cross genders, then cross genders and it's no one's business but your own. Put it in your profile that SL is SL and no FL connection will happen. That way, it doesn't matter in the least what naughty bits you have under your FL denims, because they'll never see those bits and all you will ever be to them is a cluster of friendly pixels on the monitor.

If they expect more, see above.

If you want the possibility of real life sex, get your butt out of the computer chair and leave the house once in a while.

From what I heard maybe a rumor Hitler was half Jewish. I seriously wonder if something really unpleasant happen with his Jewish parent as child and what would have happen if he had been allowed to stay in Art school and hadn't been kicked out. James I established a committee to create teh King James bible and it was published in 1611. I think people are referring to teh Latin Mass for Catholics which started to come to an end in teh 1960s.

But I dont think teh Vatican approved of King James bible since it was translated for Protestants.

I think "Catcher in the Rye" and "Huckleberry Finn" are still banned also. And Henry Miller (or is that New York public library?). As far as I am concerned its "As You like It" and I thumb my nose at censorship.

SL is first and foremost a business and social networking platform.

For instance, a business can set a virtual meeting with avatars from all over the world and since one can buy their own land, the land owner may have stipulations on how an avatar looks if it's their business they are presenting.

To others it's a game of role play, whether testing out their acting skills or not. But, I don't see it as a game as what do I win if it's a game?

To other's on the social networking side it's a way to interact with people they have something in common with.

The varieties on SL are quite endless within this business, social, and/or "game" as long as within TOS and one should be able to set up their land as they see fit as it's their money they are spending.

However, I do remember when I was a young girl dressing up in my Mom's clothes. I was a child a little girl, my mother's clothes did not make me a woman nor give me any understanding into what it would be like being a woman in a male dominated world.

Yes women have more equality now, but still not enough. And playing dress up truly cannot give you a sense of what that gender goes through in day to day life nor what it's like to be that gender in real life.

Even for those wishing an operation to change their sex altogether, it is required that you life as that gender in rl, not sl.

As for transvestites, I think that's a small population of SL of which I have no idea how large or small, but I certainly don't think it's the majority.

Still as far as the OP saying more men are women in SL because of women being the new empowered sex, I wouldn't see what that would have to do with a rl male chosing to be a woman only in SL, even if that were true. I'd say it's more for sex play rather than being a new empowered sex called woman in rl.
