I'll grant you, women do dominate in certain areas, such as ironing, vacumming, having babies and looking good in sexy underpants. But beyond that they are still pretty uselss and the only result of all that Bra burning in the 60's was the destruction of the ozone layer. /me ducks Conifer! He stole your tag line!!!! Why not take a look at us older men, Jig? But to prove how smart you are, here is a qualifying task: my phone number is hidden in the name of a poster earlier in the thread . . . I remember girls saying that thirty years ago and what happened? Margaret Thatcher! Pep (That role model seemed to dampen enthusiasm, I recall) Yes, Pep, I got the telephone number thingy straight off. Didnt bother to work it out tho. I agree with your Maggie Thatcher bit. However, I do think she changed teh face of Britain and she will be remembered long after the rest of them are forgotten. Perhaps I am a product of teh Thatcher generation? Yes OLDER men are superb. I dont mind telling you here that when I was 19 my lover and my truest friend was a man of 57 who was totally and completely wonderful. I know him still though he is just retired and he is still sexy, and "whole" intelligent, and stunning. Oh Pep, if only, if only, eh? By the way, in sl I surround myself with older men. _____________________

I would say a definate percentage of the men who have a female avie a their sole avie have at least a desire to experience life as a woman. As to whether they want to spend their RL like that well some certainly do. There is a large population of MTF transgender women in SL (MTF being much more predominant than FTM in RL too... there is much research on whythis is, down to the fact that all fetus start off female... if you want more info IM me in world for a notecard on it). SL is a chance for many who feel they want to try out life as a woman o do so relatively safely. Thisis a chance to explore that side of themselves. For some, like my partner, they realise what they have always know that they RP in RL being male, but in SL they aretruely themselves. For others it is simply a chance to get into the life of a woman, toexplore that it is like, and for yet others it is RP. Finally for some it is a chance to explore sexual fantasies, sadly often at the expense others (think RL lesbians finding out the wonderful woman they met is a guy in RL who has a thing for lesbians) Very good post.i am a female avy in sl,i am also transgendered in rl (male) For so many of us dressing female in rl is so natural to us Now i realize i am opening myself up to poss, abuse here,i would never normally post in a non t girl atmosphere I run 5 yahoo t girl groups and a flickr group and the amount of males that dress female all over the world would astound you i am talking millions all over the world Unfortunately we are a hidden society, still fearful for our lives if found out I Recreate my rl self in sl Dress as i do in rl and for so many of us dressing female is just expressing what we feel inside and nothing to do with whether or not females are the stronger sex, There are many reasons why males dress female and it is to varied to go into here I also have a relationship in sl with a lesbian who knows exactly what i am,we enjoy the privacy of our OS,we also live 3000 miles apart in rl so sl where we enjoy our time together |

Letting them drive and vote were big mistakes as well. ![]() ...and letting us wear shoes was your first big mistake, I know. ![]() Seriously...thanks, Jig, for starting this one. It's been a while, and the discussion so far is very good. And thanks to Eclectic and to Snowy for some very well-said thoughts. I just have two comments to add: 1. Yes, women are the dominant sex...at least in SL. They have some significant advantages here, and some of their RL disadvantages don't apply. It's a lot easier to get most of the more common jobs in SL if you're a woman...there aren't many male strippers or escorts around. There's TONS more choices in clothes, shoes, hair and everything else. It's easier (as "Lilith" found out) to get people to approach you. (Heck, sometimes you have to beat them off with a rolled-up AR!) Women don't have a strength disadvantage in SL. They cannot be raped. They can't get pregnant (except by choice, of course). And...glory be!...our high heels don't hurt! There are so many advantages for women in SL that I have to stop and give thanks that there are actually a few men still around the place. 2. As Eclectic, as ITL, said, there are many reasons for a man to play a female avatar in SL. Curiosity, fun, exploration, being transgendered...and there's only one bad one: deliberate deception with the intent to hurt someone. You don't have to change genders to do that, but it's a powerful weapon because emotions and trust are on the line. [EDIT: Snowy, you don't have Private Messages turned on. I'd like to chat with you offline; please enable PMs in your user profile, or drop me an IM in world.] _____________________

Jig- honestly- if women were dominant suddenly, it would not feel right. Yes things are individual - how one feels at a given time. But honestly, the world is far better off with less Alan Alda and more John Wayne- just my opinion of course. A woman who enjoys very much her place in the world. And I am no floor rag mind you- I have a mind and a damn strong character - I just much more prefer the hand nature dealt me - your mileage may differ.

I wouldn't be surprised if at least some "guys-in-real-life" weren't transvestites or stymied transsexuals. Best of all, if you're caught, you can always say it's just a game. Damn, you're good! Now why would a guy instead of having a guy alt, go for a female? Releasing their inner females? After all this is the one place they can act them out without fear of being exposed. Buying makeup, stockings, lingere, making sure their butts look good. Why? To impress other men, of course. To walk into a room and have all the guys hawking them as they strut their stuff with their sexy walk in revealing outfits. But don't you dare even think they're gay or have female tendencies. Oh, no. /shudders the thought. Then the one thing they're quick to point out is it's not them or they rather look at a female while interacting in sl. Cheap excuses, we know. Wonder what excuse they'll think of next. |

Going back to the original assumptions that women are the dominante sex, I have to say there are fewer "men" than ever. I know I am a far cry from your typical he-man knuckle-dragger, but I do like to think I am a man. I feel more in common with Bogart than DeCaprio, that for sure. Play it, Scham. Ya played it for her, you can play it for me... /me swoons. _____________________

I wondered if the men who become women in SL are expressing their dissatisfaction with men today in the real world - and wishing they were part of the new dominant sex - WOMAN. Comments? Reactions? I have a robot avatar that I wear occasionally. Does that mean I am expressing my dissatisfaction with the human race and want to become part of the new dominate race - MACHINES? I don't know. I just did it because it was fun. _____________________
