From: tristan Eliot I always thought one could spot male controlled female avatars because of their typically overexaggerated assets. No, no, no. Men know that that is the common perception. So men who want to have female avatars now go for the girl-next-door look to fool you. Now the "overexaggerated assets" are really women who want you to think they're men who are trying to pass as women. Of course...because that is the case, if a man really wants to make you believe he is a woman, then he'll "overexagerate" to get you to think that no man would be that blatant, so it must be a real woman pretending to be a man using a female avatar. It's complicated, but try to keep up.

Wow, say teh word "dominant" and people have conniptions. Why not say "dominant"? Have any of you had a look at the men between 18 and 25 out there in teh REAL world? I do honestly believe that men in the 1960s and 1970s (and possibly 1980s) were switched on to the rise of feminism and became better mates for doing so. Yes - I know - there were the typical assholes also. But the dreary stumbling me-me-me young men that I have to face and choose as a mate in THIS day and age are spoilt and selfish. And trust me, I can take my pick! And I mean in the REAL world here. I am a young professinal who basically sees no opportunity in terms of a partnership. Maybe a bloke to take out for a meal or two and a shag; but that's about it.
No, I believe that THINKING and Intelligent men see an opportunity to express themselves far better as women in - IN - sl. NOT rl where being in touch with the feminine side can still lead to ridicule in some quarters.
And if you dont think women are starting to dominate - well, start to look around you gentlemen. It's been a long time, but "that train been a-comin' from a long ways off" as they say.
I am glad as a woman we're gonna get a kick at teh can. I bet the majority of avatars are women - isnt that a dominance of sorts?
I hope this stirs up the nest - I just wake up (alone - but NOT lonely) so forgive spelling errors pleeze.

From: HoneyBear Lilliehook /me blinks Think The Princess Bride... test of wits between Vizzini and Westley. From: someone All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

I would say a definate percentage of the men who have a female avie a their sole avie have at least a desire to experience life as a woman. As to whether they want to spend their RL like that well some certainly do. There is a large population of MTF transgender women in SL (MTF being much more predominant than FTM in RL too... there is much research on whythis is, down to the fact that all fetus start off female... if you want more info IM me in world for a notecard on it).
SL is a chance for many who feel they want to try out life as a woman o do so relatively safely. Thisis a chance to explore that side of themselves. For some, like my partner, they realise what they have always know that they RP in RL being male, but in SL they aretruely themselves.
For others it is simply a chance to get into the life of a woman, toexplore that it is like, and for yet others it is RP.
Finally for some it is a chance to explore sexual fantasies, sadly often at the expense others (think RL lesbians finding out the wonderful woman they met is a guy in RL who has a thing for lesbians)

Did you ever stop to think that maybe those avatars that are female in sl but "male" in rl (now i'm not saying all here) are transgendered and only doing the same as they do in rl,dress female and has nothing to do with

In RL for a female to become a male the doctor must first remove half the brain. To go from male to female there is first an IQ test, ....

I would say that there are a lot of reasons... it's not one thing.
Just speaking for myself, now:
A long time ago, when the internet was young, there used to be these things called talkers, which were text-based chat rooms. I used to use them a lot, made some good friends... but it was not easy to *start* talking with ppl...
... until one day I decided to log in using a female name, which happened to be "Lilith".
Suddenly EVERYBODY wanted to talk to me.
I never pretended anything other than the name; I was just me. No one ever doubted that I was a woman in real life. It was partly, I think, because I never did the giveaways: I never talked about how huge my breasts were or when my period came, which is what guys pretending to be women do.
But people also believed me because in real life I am not really that much of a "guy" guy: I don't know anything about sports or cars. I'm not very aggressive.
Soon, I found myself getting in pretty deep, emotionally. One guy kept talking to me... we got to be friends... and then cyber-lovers. And I was surprised at how much I liked it.
Then I fell deeply, deeply in love.
So I hit the brakes. I stopped going. I never used that login again.
When I came back under a different name, I found that he was crushed. After looking for me in vain, he finally quit the talker.
Of course, I felt quite the shit-head.
That was my introduction to being a girl online.
In real life I have often wished I could be a girl. The *why* of all that is something I used to wonder about a lot. Maybe it's genetic, or because I grew up with so many sisters, or because of the way my parents treated me. Who knows?
Now I don't particularly care why.
In real life, I've come to terms with it. I like being a man. I love my wife. I like women.
In SL, I'm 98% of the time a girl, and I like men.
It's easier and more fun to be female in SL. I've had so much trouble as Snowy (a guy) trying to find a decent avatar -- one that doesn't look all pumped up. I'm still not happy with my look. And of course, finding good clothes and hair is an enormous chore for a man in SL.
And I find that when I'm Snowy that I like women. Being a male also feels more like my real life. People (especially women) react to me in the same way. Somehow I'm obviously not on the prowl and people like to talk to me.
There's a book -- a bit difficult to read -- called "Trouble on Triton" by Samuel Delany, and in that book there is some business about sexual orientation that I agree with.
To go back to the question the way it was asked, YES, I am dissatisfied with the way men are in the real world, and YES, girls rule. Given the choice, I have a hard time choosing to be male in SL. It's okay... if I didn't have the choice, if I *had* to be male, I'd still come to SL, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as good an experience.

From: Jig Chippewa I wondered if the men who become women in SL are expressing their dissatisfaction with men today in the real world - and wishing they were part of the new dominant sex - WOMAN.
Comments? Reactions? LMFAO - women are the dominant sex. That is classic.

There is significant evidence these days to suggest that what you feel is genetic. As i wrote as IT, all babies start off female, it is the genetic default. I dont have the info at hand, but my partner (who knows a lot about this stuff from her RL work) wrote on the subject with all the currnt info. Babies start off female, every single one of us, and one ofthe hormones in prgnancy make babaies male. Gah i wish i was logged in to show the info. IT is very interesting info. I do have to make the point though that sexual orientation and gender identity are two different issues. Thoguh both are thought to be genetic they dont go hand in hand. Transgender women and men come in all sexual perusasions.

I have wondered what it would be like to be a woman. I think people are more accepting and open with women than men, but then maybe I'm just going on my own feelings and perceptions because *I* am more open with women. Sometimes I'm very curious about how it feels for a woman. But then I remember my enormous penis and all those feelings fade away

/me giggles.... if I was hiding I wouldnt have admited it. And had I used my alt to hide it only would havebeen for the protection of my partner, but she has recently came out in SL, so i see no need to hide who I am in this discussion. I do think it is an important one, all the jokes aside. It is an area a lot of people dont understand. Thos whoa re tg in SL and those of us with loved ones who are feel the sting of this misunderstanding around this issue everyday. It is a hard thing for many people to get their head around, some days it is still hard for me. When i get back in world I will copyand paste the notecards my partner wrote . They explainthis better than I ever could

I'll grant you, women do dominate in certain areas, such as ironing, vacumming, having babies and looking good in sexy underpants. But beyond that they are still pretty uselss and the only result of all that Bra burning in the 60's was the destruction of the ozone layer. /me ducks
