Yeah the word "faggot" is a definite no-no! Unless its just among friends or something I think its only purpose is to dehumanize and humiliate the person you're calling one. Call a gay guy this and I can imagine its pretty insulting, call a straight guy this and you're saying hes a pussy. And I wouldn't put up with someone calling anybody else a faggot around me either, I thought those days were over when people could get away with openly treating gays this way. When i say its kind of "gay" or "faggish" to be playing SL with a female avatar i don't mean it the same way, I guess I should probably put it a different way but I refuse to call myself effeminate just because I have more fun playing this stupid game with a female avatar! I like women, so I want my little fake person to be one. I think its "gay" for guys to take themselves and SL so seriously that they get all offended and worked up at the thought of even making themselves a female avatar to goof around with.

I get enough of the "Goddess within" business in real life from the woman in my life. On here I get to abuse others for a change!

Another point about switching genders is a lot of people won't even talk to you unless you have a mic to make sure you are the sex of your avatar. I am that way now for a relationship because I don't appreciate women in male avatars pretending to be a man when I am a heterosexual in rl and sl and all girlie girl. I state this is a no-no for a friendship for me in my SL profile and my RL profile -- no women in male avatars please playing pretend. Move along please.

I don't know I am bit shock if my theory is false that most of SL women are really men, perhaps 80 percent who are in SL regularly are biologically men who say they are females and only small minority are the other way around.
There is no prove for gender status to be correct basic on biological gender here
because many places it can be changed legally.
It's no problem for me but for those it is important perhaps they should hire reputable dna lab and begin to verify all the genders of partners they might want to cyber or give money too including background checks if people really find this non-negotiable issue.
So when they cyber they know they are cybering with the "correct gender".

Why would youhonestly care for a FRIEND? I mean obviously if you are goin to get intimate with someone ofcourse I can understand, but of what value is it to you to voice verify any male avied friend you happen to meet unless you inted to get intimate with them at some point.

I am using a male avie in SL as a social experiment to understand what life is like for my partner in everyday life. It isnt a true representation but it helps me to feel what she feels, that un comfort etc.

I am a female in RL and I will be using a male avie (at least part time) in SL for a few weeks. I am pretending nothing other than my gender and I dont intend on becomign more than friends with anyone. I would hate to find people would find that offensive

My avatar's a male, so you don't need to worry about that, I guess, but I'm not going on voice even to *listen*, let alone get a mic. Voice ruins SL for me, I've tried it, and I'm trying to forget the experience.

The subject never comes up in my ever-growing circle of friends. Some are more honest than others, and just tell if they feel the need, others keep the mystery alive. Some use voice, others don't. All of them don't really care. We meet, avatar to avatar, and leave it at that for SL's sake. (^_^)

On the other hand, yes, people that I get intimate with get full disclosure. That is, unless they refuse it. And, I have a few friends that refuse it. They don't care if I'm Jimmy Hoffa, chipped out of a freeway overpass, and re-animated to be an online automaton. (^_^)y

I would settle for "Each to their own and I will have to get used to the fact that not everyone is what they appear to be" because even in RL everyone is not what they appear to be at first are they? are they? hmmmm?

I would say to those who are very concerned about cybering or being friends with someone who is not what they say they are that you have a lot to learn about RL relationships and people too.

My philosphy is to let people be who they want to be, give those guys who choose to be a woman a break, perhaps some of them are just trying to gain some empathy for us women, would that be such a bad thing? Lord knows there are many times I wished a guy I knew had a bit of F'ing empathy for us.

As far as the people I was talking about in my posts are real. There are some groups who won't let female avatars in unless they hear you on mic. This doesn't mean you have to talk all the time on mic as they tend to not be too clear. Until mic is perfected on SL, it will be a lot of "can you hear me nows?" But, that's how the cell phone started too.

Why don't some groups let female avatars in without mic?
They said cuz they want to make sure you're NOT a dude in a female avatar because they have customers who want to socialize (not have sex) with a rl female in a female avatar. It's called heterosexual flirting. That should be allowed on SL too.

What I would like to know if is you have to go to such extreme lengths to find out the real gender of a person before you will entertain them, then obviously you cannot tell the difference.
If you cannot tell the difference, then what is it you exactly prefer about the "real" thing vs. someone pretending?

My opinion is that people who absolutely must know about your RL details in any kind of way before socializing with you must have tendencies to stalking. Guys pretending to be girls probably are better off without that kind of attention.

Well just like in RL, if somebody is pretending to be somebody they're not then it's often considered disingenuous.

Ahh but you are allowed to pretend here, it is a fantasy world, nothing is real is it? The important thing about a person comes through eventually, their personality and everything else is irrelevant.
