pretty dragons
I like seeing the different avatars out there, some are very well made, and I have a rather extensive collection of different avatars
I just find that most non humans and I do not hit it off on a "get to know you, let's hang out" level
Then again, that could be me, as I tend to stay in my workshop and .. work heh

From: Avawyn Muircastle I don't treat everyone as assumed over 18 cuz I know differently that it's not so. However, when you start talking to someone, you can start to get a feel for their age, especially in my experience because I'm not on SL to role play and I've talked to a lot of people who are just being themselves, discussing their rl likes/dislikes. I'm there to talk about music more than anything. If you approach it like that you are bound to find many false positives and fail to recognise some truly underage people. This is just advice of course.

From: Gabriele Graves If you use the email subscription feature of the forums to tell you when a topic has had new posts, then yes it sends you an email every time someone posts. Not really sure how forum is set up? I have my do not send emails to my email disabled on the SL download under preferences though?

From: Ashe1 Writer Wow, Gabriele...that is a beautiful avatar ) Stunning really... Ashe Thank you Grendel's Avs really do sell themselves. The surprising thing is the cost, I expected to pay at least L$600 and probably more but it was L$250 as I recall. Well worth a visit.

You first of all need an email listed of course and then you need to have enabled: Default Thread Subscription mode = Instant email notification Or: When you subscribe to a thread, select the same option. Hope this helps

From: Ashe1 Writer Wow, Gabriele...that is a beautiful avatar ) Stunning really... Ashe ETA: Talarus, yours is great also!!! From: Gabriele Graves Thank you and yours is also very nice, purple is a fav colour of mine Thankies My (fave) colors are Blue/Purple, White, Silver. So, I tend to alternate between them, again, based on mood. That av is made by Rock Hayek, who makes probably the best-looking original anthropomorphic Dragon avs in SL at the moment. It has a very neat "phantom/glass" or "Ethereal" look as well.

I didn't quite understand your point. But I'd say that age doesn't determine the level of a person's maturity or immaturity. (This does not mean that underage kids of SL is okay in mature only zones. However, there are PG zones and I didn't see anything about must be over 18 to join when I joined?)

I've always had a thing for animal ears and tails.
For instance, cat ears and tails; In real life, soft, furry, fluffy, and cute.
I think that the cuteness factor adds into things, and might explain my addiction to wearing cat ears in SL.
I think...

From: Avawyn Muircastle I didn't quite understand your point. But I'd say that age doesn't determine a person's maturity or immaturity. The point is that if you take the approach of assuming that everyone is over 18 unless you are told otherwise then you do not need to worry about their age much. If a person is acting childishly then they could be under age, or not - so why worry, you will wrong some of the time if you attempt to figure it out, just move on and leave them to their childishness. If a person is acting mature, would you worry that they might be under age? Again why is that productive when you could be right or wrong about anyone. The only time to worry is if an AV tells you in what you perceive to be an earnest fashion that they are under age or they have it on their profile and it is clear they don't mean SL age. In such cases you should AR them as it is in everyone's best interests to get them off the grid, theirs, yours and all the other adults around.

I'm there to talk about music more than anything. I find, from a legal standpoint, I have to treat everyone on the adult grid as 18+, unless they tell me otherwise. Mainly because LL has gone out of their way to make it and keep it that way. If some <18 kid gets on the adult grid and gets into adult/explicit situations, it's not my problem, it is the kid's problem, or really, his parent's. It's no different than a kid sneaking into an adult movie/toy store and perusing the "materials" without the store owner's knowledge. As long as said store owner maintains a reasonable vigilance, he can't be held liable for little Johnny laying his peepers on things he shouldn't be. Of course, this is also one reason why Linden Lab instituted that Age Verification trial a year ago; to try and put some of the legal onus back on us as residents. Basically, if you interact with someone who isn't age-verified, you should be aware of any risks in interactions with said person that might be considered "bad" if he/she turns out to be a minor. The problem is that it never seemed to make it much beyond the trial, and from resident reports, minors were still able to age verify themselves anyway. Either way, I don't interact intimately/explicitly with people I don't already know very well, so I feel quite safe in the presumption that everyone I meet is 18+, because the Lindens tell me so.

Then again, that could be me, as I tend to stay in my workshop and .. work heh Well, I think it is more likely a "presumed anomaly". IE, you could probably remove the "non" from your first statement there, and it would likely be just as true, if not moreso; you just tend to notice it more with respect to non-humans, probably because you haven't met very many yet (for obvious reasons), and we're not exactly the "majority".

And yes it tends to be those who tend to play non human moreso... again not sure why, could be I am judging the book by the cover, but... I have nothing more to go on (also most non humans are into some form of RP and I just don't RP... )

I don't recall any disclaimer that must be 18 or over to sign up and start SL? Is there one?

Yes quite positively Yes, you must be at least 18 to enter SL, teens are allowed to sign up for the SL Teen Grid which is quite seperate but even then they must be in their teens.

Beyond the Terms of Service, you are asked to enter your birthdate. If it indicates you are a minor, it will take you to the Teen Grid as well as the COPPA agreement page. If you lie about your age, the law absolves LL of any liability for anything that happens to you.

Statistically, non-humans are a minority; a large one, to be sure, but still a minority. It's OK. I don't tend to hang around with a lot of humans, either. Not just because I get weird looks, or lots of oohing and ahhing, but also because your (human) chairs are not very tail- or wing-friendly. :-/

From: Avawyn Muircastle /me was told by some that they were under 18. I have also, many times and each one was AR'd. At first I felt mean as I tend to have a live and let live attitude but it was pointed out to me that they are in an environment that is unhealthy for them, it is not just about protecting adults but shielding the minors from things they are not quite ready to deal with yet. The most common one I have run into seem to be the ones asking for money, they reveal themselves as being a child and having no way to get money as a reason that they should get some from you.
