For the longest time, I thought yiffing was how foxes vocalized: dogs bark, cats meow, foxes yiff. I was running around, yiffing "hihi!" until one day some told me the other meaning O.O

for me I really do not see them as appealing... cute in some cases maybe

not into the whole neko or furry thing.. full animal avatars can be cute
some tiny's can be cute (loco poco's comes to mind)


but the half human or cross breeds just do not appeal to me

if I see an animal, furry, neko, etc I just kinda move along, do not much interact (unless I already know the person behind the avatar)

they are all people under all the prims and skins, no different than any of the rest of us.

as for the sex part, no clue if it is legal, and the moral part only each person can decide if it is right for them (for me, no, it is not right nor even slightly interesting for me)

I dunno. My avatar is me; maybe not in a RL physical sense (oh how I wish though genetic engineering and biologically-interfaced nanotechnology are coming along nicely ), but definitely in a mental and spiritual sense.

I'm not wearing a "suit"; something which provides me endless hours of entertainment when someone refers to me wearing one.

As for the "sex with animals" morality question, I'll reiterate a fabulous comment by another resident here in these very forums some time ago:

"They're not having sex with animals; they're having sex with each other."

I think it is a rather important distinction. Consensual sex between sentient adults, no matter what species, is hardly immoral. Personally, I tend to be a bit of a purist: Dragons only. However, it's not an absolute.

It's also not only in SL where you can ask that question. It's been asked off and on as long as there have been stories with sentient non-human characters in them, regardless of genre.

Forums aside, how do you get to know the person behind the avatar if you don't interact with them?


Maybe it's just me, but this seems somewhat contrary to the previous "I don't interact with them" comment. If you acknowledge that we're all just people, why 'move along' when you encounter an animal, furry, Neko, etc?

I met a big beast a while back.
Biped bull, red eyes, dirty great curly horns, smoke blowing out of his nostrils... cloven feet of about size-large-elephant.
At least twice my height.
A nice mind. A sense of humour.

He suggested sitting on a cuddle pose to continue the chat.
It's not really a huge fire-breathing bull thing. It's a person. So why not?

Luckily I have long frizzy red hair. Apart from my name tag, the odd bit of red poking through his fur was the only indication that I was around.
That was just a sit together. Sex animations would have been really silly.

omg i remember when a friend was talking to me about furries and the yiffing...
i was like..oh what the heck is that..she said here let me show you..so she took me to a furrie club..

it had this door that said to the yiffing rooms or something like that..then we got lost in all these tunnels trying to find this room and i was like..just tell me what the heck it is already!!!

we were looking to open the door and it wouldn't open and these furries were speaking german and coming by us and finally i remember to teleport home..which actually ended me up in some dungeon surrounded by new people that started to IM me for things...

i finally found a landmake to my house and then told my friend to never do that again.

I think the modern interest in furs could only have stemmed from people being bombarded with thousands of hours of suggestive images, and deep acculturisation during a youthful, formative time.

But who would have conducted such a mass psychological experiment upon the youth of the world? And why? I can't imagine such a thing would have been allowed.

Some years back... for a while... I made a point of using it in a completely innocent context, purely "oh, that's just the sound a fox makes" sense, just to play games with people's heads.

Well, that actually can be solved by adjusting the poseballs, and/or getting more appropriate animations.

Believe me, as a Dragon, especially in non-anthropomorphic form, it can't get any more difficult in that regard; however, there are some half-way decent animations out there; it's just a matter of finding them and setting them up right. The rest is left to your imagination, which is the most important part, anyway. The trick is getting something good enough to avoid negating the suspension of disbelief.

That's.....I don't want to say "weird", because that would be offensive; I'll just say that it's something I don't understand. I mean, from a mechanical standpoint. I suppose it makes perfect sense for people who know more about dragons than me.

Yeah, at least one Dragon av maker made both Dragon (the full-sized, non-anthro version) on Dragon and anthro (human/human shaped) on Dragon poseball sets for his avs. There are others who have made similar for Dragon RP sims, like Pern, including a "vehicle" for "mating flights".

I have similar issues with the "full Dragon on Humanoid" versions, but *shrug* I'm not one to burden people's imaginations with the shackles of "reality". If they are good with it, and are having fun, more power to 'em.

I mean if I already know the person and then they show up as a neko furry etc, I continue to chat with them

I do not go out of my way to befriend them if I do not know them, and that is my right to do or not do

I move along because from my experience with people who play as a furry neko, etc, I find we just do not have anything in common

their type of play doesn't interest me, and my type of SL doesn't interest them

(by move along I mean I do not go out of my way to say hi, or to strike up a convo, etc)

It's certainly your right, but doesn't it strike you as just a wee bit prejudiced? "Yeah, you're people, but you're obviously not MY kind of people. I mean, just look at the prim bits and stripedy skin you're wearing!" You could be missing out on all sorts of fantastic friendships because you've already made up your mind about what a person is or isn't, or what they may or may not be interested in, based on a few past experiences. I think that's kind of sad.


Not saying you would do this, but plenty of people have been denied their humanity in RL based on others' prejudices...why would SL be any different?

Well, for a start, in SL you've got people denying their own humanity based on their own prejudices.

Yiffing no. "Yiffy" said in chat, yes. I thought it was a new word for "yippie". Like hurray or happy or something.

Perhaps beast and myth figures allow an inner person to be revealed. Just like when we wear masks in plays and in dances. The essential qualities of the human are allowed by our becoming something other-than-human. My own sl partner is a Satyr (by accident really) and is distingushed and sexy. I think he reveals more of himself than he might as a human because he wears teh "mask". I reveal more of myself when I am with him than I would if he was simply a man - and that is when I am NOT wearing a mask. The canyons and ripples of our emotions play out better when we face our myth-figures and interact with them. Maybe that's what its all about.
