When I was a child, I found folktales about werewolves and stories of witches who turned into cats incredibly fascinating...
In SL, though, I have a strong preference for quadruped animal avatars... the big dogs are irresistible... and I have spent some time looking (unsuccessfully) for a golden retriever avatar for myself.

We share our sl world with beasts and Nekos, minotaurs and satyrs. So what makes them so appealing to us? I dont mean just in being one - I am a Neko often. There's something primal in them even as we watch them on our screen interact with us. What is that it that creates that energy between teh human and teh beast in sl? And, I'll ask the question that is on some of our minds - is it legal/illegal, morally okay or immoral to have sex with a myth-creature liek a minotaur or centaur? And ONLY in sl can you ask that kinda question! Hmm.. the Beast is never far bellow the civilized facade we present. In SL we can externalize what is always just beneath the surface- Is it illegal, immoral etc? Certainly not illegal- and morality is a construct- if you can look in the mirror you are the ultimate judge. You are not hurting anyone if you engage in a visual representation of sexual behavior with another human adult in the guise of a beast real or imaginary- I myself have kissed a horse- it was awkward - just not properly shaped for it. Reminds me will have to try it again when both in horse form  just to see. I don't think it's a big deal- I am my avie, my avie is me-_____________________

I don't mind saying I scratch the ears of a furry or pet their tail in local chat, I mean. But it's more of a way to make them feel as welcomed as any other avatar.
But I always assumed people chose furry avatars because they want to present themselves as asexual and/or not available for the horny humans. They just want pets and ear scratches. It's not a bad idea to keep from being hit on. I never thought they were having sex. Why?... maybe because my animals have always been spayed or neutered and are asexual children to me. I'm always their "Mommie" so when I see furries I think of being "Mommie". |

It's the ears. No, seriously. Last night, I ran into the cutest furry mentor on Help Island. She was wearing knee high boots, tight pants, and a gorgeous ski sweater. She had enormous slanty eyes, and a pair of huge, twitchy, membranous ears that just cried out to be fondled. She said she was a "serval", whatever that is. It *is* the ears. |

I do like to charge around now and then as a quad fur, usually a raccoon. And I love seeing the different ways people interact... surprise from newbies who don't realise it's an avatar (someone in Straylight thought I was part of the sim), being treated like a pet, a wild animal or just regular chat. Not into furrysecks though, either animal/animal or especially human/animal. Neko & the like I see more as a different type of human, and furs are a kind of grey area. To me they look more like cartoon animals, so I never get that vibe off them, however cute.
When I'm in animal form, it's more like someone playing a child av... the freedom & playfulness, nothing sexual. _____________________
