Apropos to what I just wrote - I bet at least TWO out of ten people using forums are involved in the "entertainment-arts" industry in some way - I mean teh whole caboodle of arts and stuff. SL even is just an extension of that whole thing.

People want "bread and circuses" babe, "bread and circuses" - trust me.

If I were a fiend from Hell, would I really want everyone to walk up to me and talk as if I looked like a printer repair tech from HP? (Feel free to discuss whether or not HP techs are fiends from Hell.)

... I don't feel the need to troll everyone I disagree with.

Pep (Just the dumb ones)

Serious question for you then: why do you feel the need to troll *anyone*?

A serious answer then. Or is it? It *is* Friday, and I haven't noticed a real Friday thread yet; although I am nearly done at work, and won't be around to point out the probable misunderstandings and over-emotional responses to my answer.

So why do I post as I do?

1. To make the dumb ones feel wanted and part of the great community of the SL Forums
2. To give the dumb ones the attention they obviously crave
3. To educate the dumb ones by pointing out errors
4. To persuade the dumb ones to ask fewer dumb questions so intelligent questions can have more visibility
5. To suggest to the dumb ones that they might want to take more time to think before posting so people can understand better what they want and can offer better solutions faster
6. To persuade the dumb ones that they might be taken more seriously if they presented their posts in a less dumb way
7. To persuade the dumb ones to think more logically about their arguments so that stupid ones don't contaminate any useful views they might have
8. To persuade the dumb ones to read what has been said on the thread(s) before they post to avoid wasting time
9. To persuade the dumb ones of the futility of presenting the same argument over and over again

and not least

10. To amuse intelligent people by making my points about arguments, generally using humour (so they get read) in a way that perhaps is occasionally too subtle for the dumb ones.

oh, and also

11. Because I can.

I could offer more rationales, but I am sure that will leave you something to think about for the rest of your day.

Pep (And what I do is *not* trolling by the conventional and historically accepted definition of internet trolling)

I don't know. I think you'd get along well with Elizabeth Bimmler and Mark Shaney.

Surely, women (and men) who Run with Wolves are better than women (and men) who Run with Scissors.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Okay, and YOU'RE telling ME I have to "ground" myself?

...

Case in point - the general impression of actual, practicing Druids is that they ARE grounded. More so than the average person, partly due to, no pun intended, the earth based philosophy. Again, stereotypes...

My comment was specific to the movie industries' comments, and are literally the case when Jack Valenti was the spokesman for the industry on the U.S. Capital Hill. The two comments were made weeks apart, one speaking to the impact of a particular film getting an award and the other Jack Valenti's standard response to the Hill asking about the impact of film on the young and impressionable. FWIW, on two occasions I was a CFO for print (and electronic print) media. Also FWIW, I found some of the stereotypes of editors thinking they were god were often quite accurate (although they would have found that a limitation), and their best creative juices seemed to flow when they did expense account vouchers.

So you could say they're properly earthed?

I don't think you're expressing the point you're making well, Cael, because the first part of your article doesn't paint the picture of someone who would assume that someone with a non-human avatar is using it to be a "badass".
...

Yeah, I knew that would be unclear. I was speaking to appearances in general and about those you see walking about wearing medieval/punk/steam punk clothes with kanatas down the back or carrying machine guns or whatever, not the animal avs. I tend personally to talk to anyone - in RL I've been talking to a trustee and in the course of the conversation found out he was in for killing his wife and found out the guy telling the joke was being investigated for ordering hits outside. So pseudo badasses are more entertainment. Which also points out that sometimes the guy that looks like an accountant is a serial killer...
