Creating megaprims "feature" is back

I created a lot of "dimensional lumber" for beams, rails and whatnot. I created some panels, too, but not as many as I wanted. I'm sure other people have that covered, though.

I would have created more but asset server trouble cut short my production :(

Both my properties are locked down now.

Oh, yeah. I also saved 400 prims in my hat-box-shaped store. Yay for 80m cylinders :-)

Both my properties, and my "second choice" public sandbox are all updated now.

Thankfully, the grid is chock full of sandboxy places. I'll be popping around watching for :still usable" sandboxes, as soon as the update wave is done for today.

I'm wondering it if would be worthwhile to organize a "megaprim repository" and have everyone who created new megaprims, no matter what size, contribute them, and have them all neatly labeled, etc.

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

Yes looks like some places are now upgraded and cannot make the megaprims. Ive been measuring my builds going to a server that is still allowing me to make megaprims and storing them in my inventory. A megaprim headquarters is a great idea, Id definitely throw in any megaprim I made..

My land in Moran (206,134,54) "Solomon's Parkland" still allows the creation of megaprims; I've got the land set for 15 minute autoreturn if someone forgets to clean up after themselves. Please come and make all you want while you can!

That would be a nice thing to have at the "place which must not be named" perhaps on "the balcony that does not exist"

Any volunteers to collect, label, and coalate?

And bear in mind..you can apply sculpty maps to megaprims so these new sizes will result in new sculpty sizes as well
(Ever seen a 100m teacup? lol)

The 200+ sizes that I made are all pre-labeled as "Megaprim - " followed by their x, y and z axis dimensions. For example, "Megaprim - 0.5 x 15 x 15" is 0.5 M thick on the X-axis, 15 M wide on Y-axis, and , 15 M tall on the Z-axis.

I made some that are oriented so the thinnest dimension is on the x-axis, thus making that direction where the dimples appear if you make them into spheres. This allows making domed rings and flattened domes quite easily, and also aligns that axis properly for torii, tubes and rings. The ones that are thin on the X-axis can also be tapered and skewed on Y, making great triangular or trapezoidal roof and floor panels, for complex shapes.

I made those same shapes, and others, so the short or tall axis was on Z, so the hole would line up with that axis if hollowed.

Some are sizes I have found particularly useful for roads, like 8 M wide which makes a great two-lane street. Others are 2 M wide, for sidewalks.

I made a bunch of sizes that should be good for domes and for cylindrical walls.

I made a bunch of sizes that should be easy to shape into arches and the like.

I made a bunch of sizes suitable for fences and walls and the like.

I made a bunch of sizes for posts, tree trunks, or similar long, thin shapes.

Most of my set are below 50 M in size, though some are as much as 100 M long.

I will be compiling a list of the prims I've made, as soon as it's a "done deal" for making more.

I really do like the idea of some sort of repository for these! We'll see what I've got when it's all done, but after making 486 prims... I'm kind of at a loss for "unique" sizes.

for the record, I tended to use the sizes: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 35, 40, 45, 50, 52, 55, 64. I also used 20, 10, 5, 3.5, 1. .5 and .25 as constants in some sets... and I did a series of doubles, where one dimension was 6-64 and another dimension was 12-128. It'll make a lot more sense when I break them into groups.. but while I was picking dimensions, I was thinking "what will be good for fences, walls, shop walls, warehouse walls, floors, platforms, cubes, and rails"

One thought that I had, but did NOT follow through on, was single-prim sizes that match the standardized cargo containers used in sea and rail and highway shipping. Those containerized metal boxes that can be lifted off a ship and straight onto a waiting railroad flatcar or truck flatbed. There's three or four standard sizes for them, and it would peobably be good to make an exact-scale set, a set at 1:1.25 scale, and a set at 1:1.5 scale. (The smallest of these standard sizes is within normal prim limits, but the mid and larger sizes are like 12 M and 15 M long...). So if someone is looking for other stock sizes to make, that is one idea... A Google search for "Shipping Container Dimension" should find the Wikipedia article that gives the exact dimensions of the real containers.

Another would be sizes suitable for passenger busses, passenger train cars, and railroad cargo and tank cars.

hehe looks like I took the same route as a couple of you, I tend to mostly build structures so I made sizes that made sense for that purpose, walls, rails, floors, foundations, roofs etc

476 prims later I too am at a loss on "what am I missing?"

my island is still enabled for creation, so come get your prim on, preferably a few hundred meters up and clean up after you are done. (the ground isn't suited for building or rezzing really)
