Also, I did some testing... The new megaprims seem to look and work fine "in person", in that their bounding boxes seem to match their created sizes, and you can walk on them and rez on them normally. But they don't show on the mini-map any more accurately than the old megaprims did.
A 5 m high, 60 M long, 0.1 m thick wall ought to look like a thin line on the minimap, 60 M long. Instead, it renders as a square, 30 m on a side. A 40 x 10 x 1 megaprim looked like a 20 M square. And this was regardless of orientation... Edge on, turned 45 degrees, you name it... Still looked like a square, aligned with the sim edges.

From: Nectere Niven and, megas are going away again soon according to Spike Linden.
*sniffles* So, Spike says they plan to close this loophole soon? Guess we better make the "But I just have to have this shape" prims while we can...

 Okay... 16 prims for the fence.. 3 prims for the actual POOL.

Does this mean the ability to create them or megas will all be gone totally?

*giggles* I'm loving making my own megaprims. Heck, don't need anything bigger than 60x60 at this point, but it's great! Reduced the number of prims in the shop by loads.

Right now, I am certainly willing to experiment with them, but I wouldn't rebuild anything with it just yet that I couldn't afford to lose...
Personally, I think that megaprims under 100 M can be useful for certain things, especially if used sparingly. But I do think it is likely that they will close the loophole that allows their creation, because there is so much possibility for abuse of them.

Pre-compiled viewers with megaprim creation support
05-13-2008 10:37
I'm glad some people are finding my patch useful. That's the best feedback I could get If you'd like to try out a pre-compiled viewer (Windows only) with this path applied, you can either use Nicholaz's EC-f viewer ( http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/) or download a copy of my custom viewer ( http://ablewhitman.org/blog/). My viewer has the UI changes as well, which means you don't have to hand-edit a debug setting every time you want to change the size of the prims you're making. This makes things easier, but you also don't get the rest of Nick's awesome patches. Cheers, --Able

Rumor has it that, in the Havok4 office hours this morning, Andrew Linden described this megaprim creation ability as an "exploit" that LL will shortly shut down. However, work is still being done on "Megaprim Liberation": From: someone [11:37] Andrew Linden: I haven't really been focusing on megaprims lately, but I would like to finish Megaprim Liberation before the end of 2008 So, make your new megaprim kits soon! .

Figures They roll out all the useless stuff with great fanfare but as soon as someone does something that is actually useful, they call it an exploit and take it away.

Start stockpiling useful sizes of megaprims NOW, and then also do your part for the community and release them on SLX as freebies once the "exploit" ( ) is closed.

From: Jake Black I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. From: Solomon Devoix That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...
...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

From: Nika Talaj So, make your new megaprim kits soon! . Yep, I'm on it. I'm only an intermediate building at best, so I think I may not be considering all the mega-prim dimensions that will come in most handy later. Anybody willing to post some size ideas apart from bigger is better?

From: Ee Maculate Does this mean the ability to create them or megas will all be gone totally? If creation gets closed down it would be temporary. Lindens are already working on cleaning up the problems like parcel encroachment that make them objectionable. Search around the wiki and Google for "megaprim liberation" for more details.

Anybody willing to post some size ideas apart from bigger is better? Actually, smaller is better. The big problem with the old set of megaprims is that they lacked useful sizes, like the oft-requested 20m sphere. There's a million things you can do with megaprims in the 10.01-50m range, but significantly fewer useful things you can do with a 128m prim. Really, LL ought to just allow prim size editing up to about 50m. That's about how big you can make a linkset, so having prims that large is no more an encroachment issue than we already have with linksets.

http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/05/13/bugfix-121-server-deploy-tue-0513-thu-0515/"as well as a few other crucial security fixes" If they consider it an exploit, it could fall under a "security fix" so stock up .

A little script you can drop in your newly created megaprim to put the words "Megaprim + (size) in the Object Name for easy inventory identification later. Simply create the script in your inventory, then drop it in the contents of your megaprim. The script will automatically delete itself from the Megaprim contents if you name the script "Size to Object Name". default { state_entry() { list size = llGetPrimitiveParams([PRIM_SIZE]); llSetObjectName("Megaprim - " + (string)llList2Vector(size ,0));
llSleep(1); llRemoveInventory("Size to Object Name"); } }

Ty very much ... after reading all these posts, off to SLX, get a good list and do my own little stockfile of useful sizes, this script will save me quite a bit of typing!

here's my name=size script. It includes a retexture, a move, and a rename... Makes it easy to build 3 dozen huge prims in place, then drop this script again and again til they're all primed, then I can take-take-take til they're all taken. it also handily truncates the "size" to 2 decimal places (doesn't round though)
string prefix = "MEGA"; // you can put your initials here key texture = "769681c6-9064-ab0f-e416-6a4eecc59e6a";
default { state_entry() { vector size = llGetScale(); llSetTexture(texture, ALL_SIDES); llSetObjectName(prefix + " <" + llDeleteSubString((string)size.x, -4, -1) + ", " + llDeleteSubString((string)size.y, -4, -1) + ", " + llDeleteSubString((string)size.z, -4, -1) + ">"); llSetPos(llGetPos() + <0,0,-10>); llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName()); } }

Is there an easy way to set the next owner perms on a large number of objects? You are all setting C/M/T perms on these, right?

You can change permissions "in bulk" but not the way you'd want. You can select all the items and then "get properties".. and then it's just a matter of "click click close, click click close, click click close" til they're all done. I'm not bothering changing permissions right now, as "time seems to be running out".. I can change permissions later.

llSetObjectPermMask() could probably be used in the above scripts to set them for any permissions you wish, but I have never tried that.
