Right Click Avatar - Mute - Bling Be Gone

This only works if you're willing to sacrifice avatar rendering quality in favor of enabling avatar impostors. This is not the fix you're looking for.

The reflection glare from the water also blinds your eyes too. What's wrong with blings?

If LL created the particle systems, by all means, use it. It is meant to create realism. If your computer graphics card can't handle it, it is your problem. If you don't like realism, turn particles off OR turn on the wireframe mode instead.

If the script was listening on chat channel 0 for bling on/off control, then it is LL's fault not providing a better means for user's input. It's a terrible design to have the script to listen on a channel for communication. There are much better ways to do that than how they implement that in LL.

1) Most bling is not very well designed in the first place.
2) Glints are very small, not 4-7 inches long like they are flying off the bling in SL.
3) Nothing glints in darkness, but does in SL.

really if you are in someones sim that does not allow it it is not their problem..
the fact is some places allow it and some don't thats why it's there..when asked to turn it off it's best to turn it off..
i have yet to see any bling in RL that emits such a blinding light as the bling in SL to think realism is a good excuse lol..
that would be lights in a club not bling hehehehe

the fact is the scripts add to the lag when you get enough people wearing it or some that are loaded with the bling addiction

I've always wondered just what search term bring these back up ....is it "bling" or is it "whore." With SL, could be either ;)

I had bling and didn't know it because particles were turned off ever since a club had a 'rave' event. It was like having camera bulbs flashed in my face for half an hour until i asked someone how to make it go 'way. I turned off particles and ahh, bliss. The people banging with bling head to toe may not know, themselves.

I don't mind bling so much, but the emitters/poofers that obscure the screen constantly, bleh. Worse case I just leave.

Turning particles off also removes a lot of the details in sims, like say, bubbles, water fountain details, etc. So it's a dice throw. (A percentage of) people are always gonna wear bling, like raccoons attracted to shiny things.

It's not Linden Lab's fault. It's the fault of the script developer. I don't jump to LL's defense very often, but while they are to blame for the particle systems that brought the blight of bling upon us, they aren't responsible for all of the awful scripts that dispense it.

I had rendering of attached particles turned off for a long time, but I saw snapshots of some (non bling) things I had completely missed and currently have that turned back on. It really is a matter of making compromises.

Might as well throw in those face lights that can light up an ocean liner.

I offer a FREE adjustable (scripted) facelight that keeps it's radiance to a single meter. You can turn it all the way up, or completely off, but the light stays close to you and doesn't engulf the surrounding area.

My contribution to a more beautiful SL :D

Ghostly, may I have one? Yours sound really nice. I don't wear them because I don't want to light up an entire liner.

Thank you in advance.

Sigh. I have one of those facelights that can light up an ocean liner or the entire SL grid, whichever comes first. I got it because it seemed to be the only thing that would lessen the 'blackening texture' I was getting on my skin, and the half ruthed look I got without it. (See other threads on this forum about those). However, I learned from one of those threads about rebaking, and that seemed to work, so now I'd love to have a 'less illuminating' facelight like the one you describe below. I will search you out inworld and pick one up, thanks for mentioning it.

Can I ask you guys a question, I will use this thread because I see it mentioned here, as well as others I've been reading. I gather that this thread as well as many that have new postings added are actually old threads being brought back to life, or, 'necro' posts.

Does this really bother those of you who have been around the forums for a long time? Because I have learned so much from some of those revived posts. I've been on SL since April of 2007, and on the forums only about a year, but haven't been active on the forums, til very recently. So I wonder how many are like me who actually learn from older posts, although they seem to annoy others?

Necroposting doesn't bug me as long as it's relevant. New people come in all the time and might not know the dead horses when they see them. :)

Mmmhmmm but what I was thinking of, were actually the issues, which seem to often remain the same, for a newbie, and to them, are just as relevant as when the thread was first posted. So what is a dead horse to one, maybe a fledgling colt to another? And if the 'Resident Answers' part of the forums do exist to help fellow SL citizens with their questions, it seems natural to me that with newbies, the same questions or types of questions may come up over and over again. Would a better way be, perhaps a new person should search for/read a prior thread before asking a redundant question, or before making a post/question to an old thread?

LOL. Yeah, ... if someone makes a new thread on something that has been asked or discussed before, you get people saying "use search - there's loads of old threads on this!", so people go and use search, find an old thread on the subject, post in it and then people say "ooh necropost!". Probably, you can't win!

The only time necroposting bothers me personally is when somebody drags up a horribly derailed thread to continue some nasty fight that was better left for dead months ago.

I feel like a beacon sometimes...stopping SL ships from crashing into the shore. Or, just a really humanoid flashlight.
