I like a very subtle bling. Nothing that is going to light me up like a firecracker. I won't be draped head to toe in it, except for Best in Bling events.

Me too :) I have one pair of earrings that bling very subtly, they look great with an updo..but I hate bling shoes, some of them look so ridiculous.

To those that fall under the category of "Bling Whores":

Stop. Just stop. So far in less than 20 minutes I've seen atleast 30 objects on avatars that were so loaded with bling it was ridiculous. Look, bling is not cool. It never was. It makes you look retarded. As I type this, a person standing infront of me has a necklace that is apparently over 200 prims...with EVERY PART BEING BLING. Not only that, he has bling glasses, bling wristbands, bling piercings, bling SHOES! SHOES!?

Listen...to those that wear it, stop. For god sakes, stop. For those that are considering it, don't. I have items that have bling but luckily "bling off" exists and I don't have to worry about it. It doesn't look cool, it never has, it never will.

Blingists like you are the reason I pay my annual dues to the Royal Society for the Protection of Blingtards!

Then add that to the clickity-clack horse clopping sound seemingly popular in heels now - especially amusing when the person is on grass, sand, etc. ;)

Hmm don't have any myself, only like it if it is done in moderation, but I have seen cases where it does look good when deliberately applied to an item to make it look overboard.
Who made you the decider of what's cool anyway? :P

Three Blings for the Furry-kings under the sky.
Seven for the Gor-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Ruths doomed to crash,
One for the Dark Troll on his dark throne
In the Land of Newbies where the Escorts lie.
One Bling to rule them all,
One Bling to find them,
One Bling to bring them all,
and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Newbies where the Escorts lie.

When I got to the line about the Dark Troll, it spoke to me. It said. "Jumpy in tha house!"

I don't think that quite got the appreciation it deserved. Bravo.

I second that.

Re: Bling. I got 5 pairs of bling shoes some time in my first week for $10, I couldn't believe my luck, and wondered about thinking "oooh, my shoes are sparkly".

The novelty didn't last long. My eyes started to hurt.

i completely agree i hate bling and refuse to buy anything with bling in it

the other bad thing is ive been told by lindens and tons of other sl oldbies that even if you do the /bling off and all that the servers are still listening to the script so turning it off may reduce the ugliness of it but it doesnt get rid of the script lag

ive received a few things from friends that im going to have to go thru today and make positive it doesnt bling

"Blingtard" is one of the 7 stages of SL avatar enlightenment. It comes right after noob-with-a-box-on-my-head.
Crud ... I must be slow. I never got to that stage... But I do have a box-with-a-noob-on-my-head avatar. (^_^)

When I see bling I think "there goes a newbie, s/he'll get over that soon enough".

Can't see the point of bling except to shout "look at me! look at me!" or better yet "look at my Halloween costume - I'm going as a Christmas tree this year"

I have a pair of otherwise fine shoes which apparently can be made to look normal by typing /55 bling off. Doesn't work. Damn.

Haha. Love it!!!!

To topic... I don't like gold colored things, should there for all gold-colored things be forbidden? No! Same for bling...

May the Bling be with you!

I think you are a genius Ray! lol. Made me spit tea! hehe

I don't mind a bit of bling, just a teensy bit of sparkle can look good, but when you are looking like a walking glow ball, I just get the urge to get out my cool little suunies and shout Blingtard!
hehe ;)

Oh no! I just though, If there is a theme of a newbie for the party, does that mean everyone will end up appearing as newbie gangsta blingtards?
Im glad I never went through that phase :)

for me it was the three days that preceded discovering physical and spending a lot of time dropping large objects on my head.

I think most folks are quickly shamed out of wearing bling.

now it inspires the same tender feelings in me that I get when I see old guys with sock garters or little kids wearing towel capes.

I see at least as many Blingtards on my daily commute as I do inworld.

'set particles to zero' is right up there with 'mute' IMO - an essential

It could be worse. At least the "Poofer" craze has mostly died the quick and painful death it deserved.

oooohhh, awesome idea -- I now have to run out and find lots of really obnoxious bling for my Alt to wear to the party. And the best part is that I will never know how bad it looks because I almost always keep particles set to zero.
:D

edited to add:
Forgot about poofers - I'll have to get myself some of those for the party also.

And someone thought the new location picked for the party wouldn't lag as bad. Haha!!!

okay, get this! one day ( a year ago, actually) i was at a class/lecture, and i saw someone wearing some seriously prim-heavy boots. the 200-buckle motorcycle type boots, now. i kinda like those.

so im zooming in on these things to see how they're made. insanely, in a word. it has like twenty straps, and each strap has two rows of about a dozen eyelets, and each eyelet is a prim.
i zoomed in to insane closeness, just going 'wow, that's crazy,' and what do i see? inside each tiny eyelet was a tiny, absolutely invisible from more than 7 cm away bling!

im all for crazy, but that's TOO MUCH! (well, at least it was invisible bling, for the most part. but geeze!)

I agree with the OP, enough is enough already.

I have a question about bling...which I refuse to wear btw. I have a pair of shoes that have no bling off script. I don't wear them but I still have them in my inventory. Can I take the bling script out? Or since they are linked prims would it allow me to?. They are mod/copy
