I'd rather see someone with a lot of bling than some idiot running around with his junk standing straight out dry-humping every female avatar in the sim.

Ya just had to bring in some logic! :p

And for the record....I highly agree with this :)

Best in Bling

This thread got me thinking of the "Best in Bling" events I see posted rather regularly. I'm tempted to go to one (briefly) to see if the sim is lagged so badly anyone can move.

you know that reminds me

I have never - ever - seen a balding man in SL.

Ive seen bald men

Shaved hair men.

But a bald spot, or balding? Nope

Just accidents of the non prim default hair LOL.

I've had a balding male style in my range since September last year... surprisingly popular, all things considered...

Regarding bling... my glasses do very subtly, but sadly they don't appear to be switchable off... the price I pay, I guess...

Just as in anything else on these forums, people have varying opinions. The OP has one opinion on this topic, others have theirs...no harm, no foul.

/quickly flashes my new "Bling Police" badge - "Just the facts Ma'am" :p

Very true, I concede voicing your opinion is a great thing even if one does not agree with it. :)
My only thing was demanding/telling ,whatever it was, someone what to do. I do think it can be a problem for others and that can stink. But I don't want to censor anyone to express themselves. Not saying you do either.

Blingtardation is an SL thing that is sometimes curable and sometimes not. Often it can be cured by having a blingtard port into a place and crash it or everyone in unison ask him to remove his bling and leave because we are all floating around and unable to move.. At that point the guy denies he is the problem and leaves and then suddenly we can all continue what we are doing and send out a collective sigh of OH THANK GOD HE'S GONE. Usualy at which point someone like me sends him a pm thanking him from removing himself and to please return with no bling attached at all to see the difference. At which point sometimes they return and in their utter amazement find that it was indeed their blingtardation and not the sim..

Those who don't return to try again minus the bling are a lost cause and incurrable and are doomed to go through life with blingtardation..

Thankfully I avoided eating any lead paint in my early SL years and so have not had any issues with blingtardation and I only once or possibly twice have added a tiny bit of bling to an item and even then people complain that they can't see the bling.. I say ooh good thank goodness I thought it would be too blatantly obvious that this item does indeed contain a minute quantity of bling..

Again - every user can turn off particles in the view-menu. Sadly, it's non-sticky, but for this session you and your client won't be bothered by the bling, no matter how much of it there is.

Bling is a particle effect. Particle effects are client side. You can turn off rendering of particle effects in the viewer if they bother you.

Complaining about something you have total control over makes you a winrar.

but we DONT have control over the script still in the item that the servers are listening for and its causing lag

The bling script EVERYBODY uses got modded to listen on channel 7 but some doodoohead changed it back to 0 and it stayed that way when it got copied around! Oh wait not EVERYBODY uses that one because that script doesn't turn the bling back on when you are not looking! But! the sim still puts scripts way way down at the bottom of the totem pole right? So the open listens steal time from all the other piggy scripts and not the rest of the sim right? Or did they change it back again?

To me, it makes one heck of a difference if I turn the particle RENDERING off. The scripts are barely noticeable, at least in my experience.

i always have particles off so i dont notice bling unless someone shows up with alot of it on and it starts causing lag

but not everyone knows to turn it off or even what may be causing lag

Good point, Morgaine :) Definitely a difference in voicing an opinion vs telling someone not to do something.

Viva la differance!

Just pulled out my old sig pic I used on old EQ posts - it was custom-made for me. Added it to my sig after this thread began and just now realizing it blings.

Except of course, that you'll be turning off every single particle effect in SL besides bling too. Fireplaces, engine bursts, weather effects, collar chains, muzzle flashes, leafs falling off trees, cherry blossoms, even the little particle trail you see when you select an item.

Three Blings for the Furry-kings under the sky.
Seven for the Gor-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Ruths doomed to crash,
One for the Dark Troll on his dark throne
In the Land of Newbies where the Escorts lie.
One Bling to rule them all,
One Bling to find them,
One Bling to bring them all,
and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Newbies where the Escorts lie.

I must say, that was quite an impressive read!

Stop. Just stop. So far in less than 20 minutes I've seen atleast 30 objects on avatars that were so loaded with bling it was ridiculous. Look, bling is not cool. It never was. It makes you look retarded. As I type this, a person standing infront of me has a necklace that is apparently over 200 prims...with EVERY PART BEING BLING. Not only that, he has bling glasses, bling wristbands, bling piercings, bling SHOES! SHOES!?

Shoes????? That's nothing..visit Tunnel of Light, everything glows and blings. Including tails and ears for Nekos. :p

Remeber "Blingers" each bling is a script. Usually a horribly laggy one at that.

Some of us work hard to create lag free sims.

Then bling boy and bling girl show up wearing more scripts than the whole sim :/

Visit my sims sparkling like that gets you a free one way ticket home.

*grins*

Bling, or the llParticleSystem(). is clientside. It's also a prim property. It cannot lag your sim.

You may experience a subjective "lag" personally if your graphics card is less than say, an nvidia 7000 series.

No sim was ever brought to it's knees with bling, if that's all it took, weapons would be all ummm blingy!

oh....

I once saw an avatar that was so covered in bling that it took me a bit to realize that it WAS an avatar under all that.

I just shook my head, turned away and found another place to be. That much bling belongs in a lightbulb...

I saw a shop yesterday that was selling "body bling." Yes, now your very skin can look like an airport runway. :-/
