What does your name mean, and why did you pick it?

Joy was my phone sex name in the nearly 12 years I was in that industry.

...

I chose Iddinja, just cause it sounded slightly exotic.

At the risk of sounding weird (nah, not me!) I've always read your name as a verbal contraction of "Enjoy(ed) it, didn't cha?" and been amused at the wordplay...

Erm, anyway.

How about the name of your first dog, and the name of the first street you lived on, (I think this is what you're suppose to do to find your 'exotic dancer' name).

Somehow I don't think "Banjo East 18th Street" is really going to rake in the tips.

I write. Most of it never goes further than my hard drive, but I write. (So, apparently, do a lot of other SL residents - Writer is a popular SL name!)

And a few years ago, when I actually submitted some of my writing online, Nicole was the first half of my pseudonym. Partly because it sounded natural, not like the first half of a pseudonym, and partly because I didn't see a lot of other authors using it.

But Nicole Writer was taken, so I shortened it to Nic. I was lucky, too, as I joined somewhere near the beginning of the Great SL Name Stagnation. A few months later, and I'd have been lucky to get a "normal" first name at all!

*Blushes furiously to admit this*

When I first met you at "the club" I previously worked at, I was so busy greeting, handing out drinks ordered and offering cigars - plus the lag - that I basically relied on my Mystitool AV detector for all of that. (Well I brought up profiles to hand out the drinks.)

Anyway...it wasn't until I saw you in another club some months later with your husband that I realized "Nic" wasn't male. :o

Errr, sorry about that.

I've used the online nick "Czari" for the past 20 years.

I've always had a fascination with royalty, particularly the Tudor era and the reign of the last Czar of Russia. "Czarina" means Queen in Russian and I thought that was so pretty and regal. I shortened it to "Czari" as my first online nick.

For a period of time on IRC I was known as "The Royal Russian Redhead."

I thought the nick was sooo unique, until I started seeing "imposters" *hrummphs* Someone even had it first when I tried to use it on EQ.

~ ~ ~

Anyway...when signing up for SL, no question about what my first name would be, so just perused the list for a Russian-sounding surname.

(I had no idea how difficult it would be for DJ's to pronounce at live shows...the C is silent, so it is pronounced Zari.)

OK, I'm sticking with Isabeau Imako.

Isablan's method would make me Carmosa, and yours would make me Betsy Lupine. I'll stick with Oryx, heh.

For those that do not know (because I have had people with no idea);

co·nun·drum [kuh-nuhn-druhm]

1. a riddle, the answer to which involves a pun or play on words, as What is black and white and read all over? A newspaper.

2. anything that puzzles.

3. (the one I like best) A paradoxical, insoluble, or difficult problem; a dilemma:

I used it for a year on another game before coming to SL. I completely realized my spelling error after the fact.

It would be a great name for an old blues singer, though.

Im just too lazy to type it all out again, so here is my quote from a similar thread on SLU:
From: DaQbet Kish;46814
DaQbet was a randomly generated name from the WildTangent game Fate.
I liked the way it sounded and looked plus that character had gotten me to something like level 120.
Of course I had no idea how big a pain in the ass typing that capital Q was going to be and when voice came about most people would pronounce it DahK-bet. Someone once asked if it was Klingon and I didn’t argue. In my head its pronounced Dah-cue-bet.
Why Kish? DaQbet Kish just seemed to have a rhythmic flow to it. Most of my friends call me DK.
And it is nothing like my RL name.

Wikipedia explains it so much better than me...

"KALLISTI: An apple of discord is a reference to the Golden Apple of Discord which, according to Greek mythology, the goddess Eris (Gr. Ερις, "Strife";) said would go "to the fairest" at the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, sparking a vanity-fueled dispute between Hera, Athena and Aphrodite that eventually led to the Trojan War (for the complete story, see The Judgement of Paris). Thus, "apple of discord" became a euphemism for the core, kernel, or crux of an argument, or for a small matter that could lead to a bigger dispute."

...well OK... but...

Basically I named myself after a character in a book I'd just finished... boring I know... I chose burns because it just seemed to go best.

Mine actually was onomatopoeic - when I saw Torok, it sounded (in my head) like Klingon. I can picture Worf saying "Klee-pong Toe-rock".

There are a few Foehns' now in SL, none of them are me,
was cool for a while to be the 1st & only one!
I'm a snow freako and hit up wikipedia for winter themed nicks ideas,
found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foehn

"snow-eaters" "ability to make snow melt rapidly *eg*
& "often associated with illness ranging from migraines to psychosis"
How could I lose!

A Euro said to me "You know, in German foehn means hair dryer." :o

Do you mind if I PM you and talk to you a little about your cheesemaking plans?

Trout, honey, I'd talk to you about cheesemaking or anything else you want, just to hear you riff on words like you do.... :)

Isablan's naming method gives me Hinsheel. Hm... nope, not doing much for me.

And Isabeau's gives me Pokey Brownlee. Think I'll take a pass on that one as well!

Isabeau gave me Pokey Brownlee, too. The doctor gave me some cream that cured it right up, though. I'm all better now.

I was looking for an Irish name and didn't want to use the more familiar Siobhan or Sinead, nor did I want to use something *really* difficult to pronounce like Saoirse or Caoimhe. I found Roisin on a baby names list and thought it sounded pretty--pronounced Ro-SHEEN, btw.

Of course, I tried to find a suitable Irish surname on the list, but all the ones I liked were taken with Roisin, so I settled for Hotaling, mostly because in my geneological research I found a great great grandmother whose maiden name was Hotaling.

My alt wanted a Hawaiian name and found Anuhea, which means cool mountain breeze. She couldn't find a suitable Hawaiian surname on the list, so she took Toshi and figured that was better anyway, since she's not full-blooded Hawaiian.

Isablan's method gives me Corsacolo, minus the last O = Corsacol. Might be an interesting name for an alt.

Isabeau's method gives me Jinx Kittyhawk.

Nothing too complicated for me in choosing a avatar name.

My first name is the same as I used in two versions of Myst:Uru that were online. I liked it and saw no reason not to use it again.

My last name was one of the few listed at that time that I liked. I wanted one that was short and simple. I just liked the way both names sounded together.

Wow! 12 pages? /me wish I had time to read 'em
Deja Vu here but I guess with the turnover of posters a popular and fun question can stand repeating :)

Bilbo was my text-only avie on the Starship Titanic forum back in '99. Starship Titanic was a standalone computer first-person adventure. The players stalked the forum much like here and formed an online community within it. Many of us met up in-world, including my lovely fiancee Morgaine (who was Morgaine then too). The system trashed my login so as a joke I made Bilbo99.

When I decided to try 2L for a few minutes (!) I didn't give much thought and just re-used my avie. Emu in the list made me think of the late Rod Hull and that blasted bird and seemed easy to type. Once bitten, I realised I could have been more creative so my alts are believable and unremarkable names. I googled one of them the other day and it came up with two real people, both north american, one the daughter of a mill owner. I might google the others out of curiosity .. after I've backread!
