my first name is the name of the main character in a book i am writing. I was for a while recreating my character in secondlife. I have long since ended that.

my last name, not much meaning, just thought it looked cool.

most my friends call me Shin though.

Easy - mine is just Gaelic words run together with an ordinary Irish sounding sirname

An Cu Dubh
The Hound (of)Black

although the Cu should really be Cú but a lot of places don't support the ú properly.

and yes I am a bit of a black-hearted dog :)

FaTeke is a fictional world I created about 10 years ago to write a trilogy in.

Over the years I've used FaTeke as my username all over the internet, because I made it up its always available and easy to remember. LOL

Pronounced Fa Teak.

Wottitz because by the time I got to the end of the names list my eyes were blurred and I was bored and said F it and just hit Wottitz. LOL

"nibiru" is the planet that has a very elongated elliptical path that intersects with our planet's orbit around the sun every 3600 years. (nasa keeping an eye on her at the south pole) otherwise known as "planet x". it's due for a drive-by in 2012. :)

I was wondering if you'd like to tell me why you picked your SL first name and last name, and what they mean, if anything to you. I've seen some names I cant pronounce, first ones, also, and just wonder what they mean. Would you change it if you could?

My first name (pronounced bow-peet) came from an alliance hoax in a MMORPG that I used to play, called Space Merchant. "Multis" (multiple accounts) were not allowed, and there was one player who constantly suspected and reported other players for having/being a multi, regardless of whether they were or not. So when a new 3-month game started, my alliance decided to have some fun with our names. Instead of using our usual, unique names, we went with Pete, Repete, Bopete, Lapete, Black Pete, Coffee Pete, Sunni Pete, and so on and so on. For the entire duration of that game, we drove the guy nuts because he was convinced we were all the same person, and kept reporting us (and looking like an ass in the process - lol).

Would I change my name? Absolutely not - it's unique, mischevious, and I like the nickname "Bo" that most people use :D

Mine is associated with all the definitions of a jig and is also the name (mentioned only once in the story) of the girl in Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants". It resonates with meaning for me.

Sommerland, in some metaphysical books, is a place you go when you die. Starostin because it had "star" in it. I love stars and look upon them as a sign of hope.

Farscape influenced ;-)

First a bit of background explaining the misspelling of my name. My wife joined SL just before I did and basically coerced me into joining so she could get a referral fee. I was not intending to stay here long, but merely to appease her. Then, on her first day, I saw her having avi sex with another girl and was oddly intrigued. ;-)

She helped me pick out a name and since I was a huge Farscape fan she found the last name of Johin and suggested Crichton as a first name. I was enthused and she signed me up but spelled Crichton as Crighton instead, which mildly irritated me, but I didn't think I would be here long anyway, so I figured what the hell. After discovering AA in SL and the live music scene I was hooked and have been her ever since. In fact, I'm here more than RL!

As a side note, I've had tons of Farscape fans who have recognized the closeness of the name even though it's misspelled. I even had one guy say, "Hey Crighton!! Do you have a plan?" To which I replied, "Of course I have a plan... a damn good one!" To which he replied, "Oh shit...we better leave....."

Anyone familiar with Crichton's plans knows they usually end up with lots of things blown up and people injured or killed. ;-)

I prefer Keira XD

Velklrü....there isn't even a letter I could remove to make that sound like anything! ;)

The other method doesn't work as I have never had a dog.

1) Start with the 1st 3 letters of your last name
2) Add the first two letters of your first name
3) Add the first two letters of your mother's maiden name
4) Add the first two letters of the city in which you were born
5) Then you are allowed to remove one letter to make it sound cool.

hmm... Clwyma
ok, unpronouncable, remove one letter....
Clyma
Not sure it would be something I could live with...sounds rather like something I'd rather not consider lol.

How about the name of your first dog, and the name of the first street you lived on, (I think this is what you're suppose to do to find your 'exotic dancer' name).

um... Boomer/Prince Mottram. (we had two dogs when I was a kid)

Don't think it even has potential lol.

I chose Gabriele just because I love the name, Graves was an excellently dark name to go with it and I expected to be very much in the gothic side of fashion when choosing it. Didn't consider being a n actual vamp until much later though. Now it fits perfectly.

I wanted the name of my alt to be interesting, wild and clever, so I chose Winter Woods. I wanted Winter Winds but it had gone already. All in all very happy with both choices.

If I can choose my first cat, I'd be Tshaj Flörsheimer. Not very appealing either!

@Claire: Clwyma CAN be pronounced-prentend it's Welsh and it will be pronounced Clooema. :D

Nome de Pixels?

About five years ago, a friend who was going through a very difficult time in his life would call me his angel. I never saw myself as particularly angelic though the image of an unrepentent fallen angel did strike a chord with me. ;) So, the nickname became my SL first name. I chose Coral as a last name because I liked how the two names sounded together and I enjoy a bit of alliteration.

As far as alts I've created over the years, each first name is one I've either used in the past (muse, lisette, phedre, meara, etc.) or names I've always enjoyed (dita, cira, misha, etc.) Yes, I've created a fair number of accounts over the past four years! :) I usually chose their last names by hearing and feeling how the full name flowed off the tongue when speaking the name aloud. Oftentimes I also chose names that would evoke a specific feeling for RP purposes.

I enjoy creating personas and my alts though mostly identified as belonging to Angel Coral, each have their own look and personality. Angel is my main avatar. Her personality and interests are mine. The rest are simply different aspects of my/Angel's personality that I've chosen to enhance for various reasons.

Now, if i followed Isablan's naming scheme I would be Adamithe *shudders*. In Isabeau's scenario it works out a bit better. Lonesome Fairbanks is an intriguing name at least for a male.

bloodsong:

this is how people know me.
this was the warrior name of a blood'n'thunder fantasy story character who kicked butt, and i admired. (so sue me, and yes, i still listen to manowar. :P )

termagant:

this actually suits me to a t.
as a role player with many nwn characters over the years, i looked severe askance at the sl last name list.... then i clicked through it searching for something.... that sounded good. or looked good. or whatever. im rather fond of names that begin with r or t.
termagant sounded vaguely familiar, and i like the hard t sounds on the end, and the r in the middle. so i looked it up and said.... oh. yeah, that's me!

due to my perverse nature, i dont tell people what it means. however, i've created a mythological creature called a 'termagant.' its somewhat like a cross between a tiger, a feret, a jaguar, and a wolverine.
i havent built a termagant avatar yet, though one of my hominid avatars has termagant footpaws, tail, ears, and um... horns.
i DO have a tiny infrapink termagant avatar. sabre-toothed, too.

Well, I decided I wanted to be an angel inworld, and I didn't really want a religious name to go with, so I went with the name of a character from a favorite movie. :-)

I also decided that I wanted to be representative of a particular tribe of humanity - Bushmen. It took me a little while to find a surname that was appropriate; Bu was as good as was available at the time. And it's easy to pronounce!

Hi Three, welcome to the forums..

And here i was picturing the Moomintoog... Three of them cuddled together like a three dog night, scales softly gleaming, occasionally uttering a soft snort accompanied by a little yip now and then as they dreamed their Moomintoog dreams.

Loki Pyle.

Picking my name was something i really Put some thought into.

Loki is a god or giant in Norse mythology, introduced in the Prose Edda as the "contriver of all fraud". He is an adept shape-shifter, with the ability to change both form (examples include transmogrification to a salmon, horse etc.) and sex (he turned into a woman to trick Frigg to learn Baldr's weakness). Loki just happens to be my 12 yr old German Shepherds name who was a terror as a young puppy.

Pyle brought back memories fir me of the very well known - Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Also bringing to mind Private Pyle, from Full Metal Jacket, directed by Stanley Kubrick. I myself was a U.S. Marine right out of High School, serving my 4 years and moving on with school and family. Being part of that brotherhood is something we never forget, I thought it would be cool to represent that part of me and all my brothers in the Marine Corps by using that well known last name.

The mix of the 2 really fits me. Even after 2 years in here, I can't think of any choice of names I could make today, that i would be near as happy with.
