I write. Most of it never goes further than my hard drive, but I write.

I like to characterize SL as an Impromptu Improvised Work of Fiction. That is, we are all simultaneously creatiing novel with multitudinous plots.

I must be the least original of everyone.. Dana's my real first name, and the last name is very similar to my real last name.. what do I win?

I'm pretty unimaginative too, Dana. "Har" is an old nickname, and "Fairweather" was merely the least annoying surname available when I joined.

Jacinda was the name of one of my first crushes. Big time crush. I was a sophomore in high school and she was a freshman. We made out one time and then the next day she acted like it never happened. Still, fond memories and I always thought it was such a pretty name. God, I remember her lips had a metallic sort of tang to their taste an I wondered why, but not enough to stop snogging. I later found out it was the cologne. She sprayed it all over her face so it was on her lips as well. Hmmmm, she was beautiful; not the too bright though. :p

Jennings just had the alliteration thing with Jacinda so I went with that.

I picked Adana because it means fiery. Someone had already used Fiery with Ember, so I needed something close. :D

Dieing Ember would only be good if you were a Poe fan. Would make a cool Goth name tho.

Sorcha is the name of a character in an unfinished novel that's been on the back burner for, well, years now. She isn't me in disguise; in fact she's a supporting character in a fairly large cast. But she's flamboyant and wide open and I guess I was hoping some of that would rub off on me. (Sadly, it didn't - I'm as quiet and diffident in SL as I am in RL. Ah, well.)

Lovenkraft... well. It didn't suit the "me" I was trying to create at all - but how could I resist naming myself after good ol' H.P. Lovecraft? I need to find a Cthulhu avatar for next Halloween...

I was given a poor choice of surnames and this was shortist for typing.

Now, to answer the OP.

I'm not so fond of the name itself, and what makes that awful is that this is NOT my first SL personna. Almost everyone winds up with a name they later regret on the first try. I did this one intentionallly and with forethought, and STILL got something thick & lumpy! *slaps head*

One day my initial personna (I dislike the term "main";) encountered 2 lucky chairs with unusually GOOD prizes - expensive stuff. Both of the chairs were on the letter "X", and another one nearby was on "Z". I thought: "The stinking scammers don't really want to give that away! They're just gaming for traffic & have progammed the chairs to only the most unlikely letters."

Being in a surly mood I vowed on the spot to make an Alt with an "X" name. That's right, this identity came about just to jump on lucky chairs and scam the scammers. Perhaps it was some sort of prescience, because at the time I was completely unaware of how VERY lucky he would be.

None of the available X surnames seemed to present a decent choice for cutesy "XX" initials, and furthermore I didn't want my monogram to look like a sleazy theatre marquee. The historical name of King Xerxes had just come to mind when I saw "Kingstop" in the CSI list. Thus Xerxes Kingstop came gridside. The initials "XK" remind me of an expensive sports car, but overall XK had very inglorious origins.

Created during a fit of ill temper to scam the scammers and bearing a name I didn't particularly care for, XK seemed doomed and would soon have been abandoned. In fact, I considered him already abandoned, then one day for no reason I rezzed him again. On that day immeasureable good luck descended upon me.

You see, XK is my only alt who wears glasses. Along my random exploration that day a stranger asked about my glasses. When I turned to engage the conversation I met the woman who quickly stole my heart and is now my precious SL mate.

Consequently, XK is now my ... errr.... "main" (choke) ... and nobody else seems to get rezzed very often at all.

Bec, you fill my soul. Every word you speak is a delight and every meeting takes my breath away.

:)

My new permission testing alt is Worf Merryman. In one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Capt. Picard and his crew were dressed as Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Worf was not happy about this.

Ahh, yes, I remember - and I laughed.

"Commander! I am NOT a merry man!!"

From: Aebleskiver Thibedeau
Aebleskiver is a throw away word I use for choosing log on names. It's always available, and I really hate having any name with lots of numbers in it---Ann29399040-----my mind does not embrace numbers in that way.

So when I discovered SL, having this weird misconception that it was some sort of computer game (isn't that silly?), I slapped 'Aebleskiver' in the blank space without thinking. I had absolutely no idea that I would be explaining the name for my entire second life, or even that I had a potential second life. Totally clueless. <shakes head ruefully>

Aebleskiver is a Danish spherical pancake filled with sweetened apple, and covered with powdered sugar, or served with jam. It's a traditional Christmas dish, although my Danish mother serves it year round.

It's pronounced 'Ebble-Skewer" by the way, not 'Skiver' (you Brits know who you are). Don't call me no lazy git!

Thibedeau comes from my current fantasy to sell out here in the US and buy an abandoned farm in the Auvergne in France to learn traditional French farmstead cheesemaking from the native cheesemakers there.

Vive la France! :)

#2- Talamasca, because it started with T, and sounded familiar.

If I coulda picked " BigPenis UpInYa", it'd be a different story! :p

somehow i thought the 69 was...well nevermind..but now i see you in a different light...grins

Thanks for reading that. You made my weekend!

Yummy, thanks to your thread. I googled my uncle and found out there's a research award in his honor. I never would have seen that if you didn't start this thread, so thanks a million!

Raymond Einhorn Research Award
AFGA has established the Raymond Einhorn Research Award to provide up to $25,000 in each of two annual awards to individuals or teams of researchers to support research that will advance knowledge, concepts, and tools of government financial management or accountability, governmental accounting, or auditing.

The Raymond Einhorn Research Award is named for a former Association of Government Accountants president and an early leader in government financial management. During his more than 30 years as a federal accountant, Mr. Einhorn was a pioneer in governmental auditing and fiscal responsibility. He set up the first internal auditing functions at three federal agencies, and wrote the GAO’s first guide to internal auditing of federal agencies.

Wow, Raymond, it's amazing and wonderful that you are able to honor such a great man!
Im so impressed with everyone's stories..this is such an interesting read! I woke up to this thread, and it's almost like I dont want it to end! Everyone's names and stories are just so interesting, and some of you really put alot of thought into them. They have become like a tatoo, imprinted in SL. Have any of you become so comfortable with your SL names that sometimes you use them in RL?

Provides me with the most important of the food groups - caffeine.

Actually, I do find myself thinking of myself as 'Nic' sometimes, rather than the RL nickname I've been using for nearly 20 years. Almost no one uses my real RL name aside from relatives and employers. It's especially bad when I'm doing email. I keep wanting to sign off as Nic.

I don't know how I'd respond, though, if someone else called me Nic in an RL context. Some guy called me by my RL name in SL (don't ask me why I was foolish enough to tell him) and it just felt icky wrong.

Just yesterday I answered the phone at work, "******* University, this is Wes— ummm — this is ******." The person on the other end laughed. "Are you sure?"

And I'm not spending too much time in world. The new viewer is all but unuseable for me.

Derbor was my throw away name to sign up to web sites or games that required an email address... when I first came to SL I was not planning on staying, I figured I would spend a couple of days, understand the hype and see how it would apply to my work... well, needless to say Derbor is not a throw away name anymore.. and now he gets as much email as my rl personal account.

:)
