Kelli started as my alt, an account to do all the disreputable and kinky things I didn't want associated with my main. So I picked a sort of stripperific name (apologies to any real Kellis out there), a slight play on 'Holli Would' from Cool World. Somehow Kelli became the main and started acting a bit more respectable... or I stopped thinking what I was doing was so way out.

Incony
In co ny - "nee" adjective [ Confer Conny , Canny .] Unlearned; artless; pretty; delicate. [ Obsolete] « Most sweet jests! most incony vulgar wit!» Shakespeare. Hathaway Anne Hathaway (1556 – August 6, 1623) was the wife of William Shakespeare. Very little is known about her, beyond a few references in legal documents, but her personality and relationship to Shakespeare have been the subject of much speculation by historians and creative writers. i chose Incony, because at the time, one word internet names were, and still are scarce. It allows me to have one word entries for nearly everything i do on the web... i have Incony.org my web site... Incony-secondlife.org etc etc.. i am incony everywhere.. even in the dictionary, thanks to Shakespeare, an exceptional author. when i joined SL, i looked for an associated name, and Hathaway, the wife of Shakespeare was available... so i think its a good choice.. but then.. i am certainly artless and vulgar... what do i know... ![]() |

My RL had been helping to cut a conifer hedge around the time I came to SL. I wasn't fully aware of how important my new name would be when I first came to SL, just for a look around. Dada was chosen because it went well with Conifer.
But I quite like my name. _____________________

#1- Tod69, as Tod is my 1st name, and 69 being the year I was born.
#2- Talamasca, because it started with T, and sounded familiar. If I coulda picked " BigPenis UpInYa", it'd be a different story! ![]() _____________________

I've used my first name before in other games. It's a play on my RL name. Since it sounds vaguely royal I picked Regent as a surname from the list available on the day.
Chellonia is pronounced Shell-oh-nyah. I've sinced learned that Chelonia is the taxonimic group name for tortoises/turtles! Which is rather appropriate for me. _____________________

Aebleskiver is a throw away word I use for choosing log on names. It's always available, and I really hate having any name with lots of numbers in it---Ann29399040-----my mind does not embrace numbers in that way.
So when I discovered SL, having this weird misconception that it was some sort of computer game (isn't that silly?), I slapped 'Aebleskiver' in the blank space without thinking. I had absolutely no idea that I would be explaining the name for my entire second life, or even that I had a potential second life. Totally clueless. <shakes head ruefully> Aebleskiver is a Danish spherical pancake filled with sweetened apple, and covered with powdered sugar, or served with jam. It's a traditional Christmas dish, although my Danish mother serves it year round. It's pronounced 'Ebble-Skewer" by the way, not 'Skiver' (you Brits know who you are). Don't call me no lazy git! Thibedeau comes from my current fantasy to sell out here in the US and buy an abandoned farm in the Auvergne in France to learn traditional French farmstead cheesemaking from the native cheesemakers there. Vive la France! ![]() |

Herzog in tribute to Werner Herzog, the film director. And it was by far the best of the bunch when I was choosing.
Max, because it seemed to fit well with Herzog. I think so, anyway. I'm very fond of my SL name. _____________________

Sakura - I'm a big fan of Japanese animé, and 'Cardcaptor Sakura' is just one of my faves.
Hullabaloo - hmm, it seemed to go well with my first name and when I joined SL I didn't really expect to still be on over a year later. If I could change this to something more 'catchy' and less of a mouthful I probably would... |

To be honest, this was not my first choice for a user name. Originally I was going to use the name of an old role playing character of mine: Janus Lunar- unfortunately at the time that I signed up, Lunar was not a name in the list.
I looked through the list for a name that I could use and came upon Legion - I used to make names using a little thought and wordplay for my other services, so I sat down and thought of the perfect (to me anyway) counterpart for Legion. Then it hit me - Solar, as in the sun itself! The Legion of the Sun! |

Re: Baskerville
This picturesque name is of French origin and is locational from Boscherville in Eure, Normandy, deriving from the Old Northern French 'boschet', copse or thicket, and 'ville', a settlement or town. Baskerville and its variant spellings Baskwell, Baskerful, Baskerfield, Basketfield, Basterfield, Pasterfield and Pesterfield, were introduced by the Normans at the Conquest of 1066.... The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Roger de Baschervilla, which was dated 1127... Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. It's similar to the surname portion of an "internet name" I used prior to SL. Re: SuezanneC Suezanne is just a spelling variation of Susanne or Suzanne. The nickname I would expect would be Sue. Presumably due to the oddball spelling, I get "Suez" as the short form a lot, and it gets pronounced "sooz" by some, I think, and as "Suez like the canal" by others. The C at the end is the initial of Clarissa. My avatar has a middle name. Avatars should have fields for, at least first, last, and middle names, numeric distinguishers such as I, II, IV, suffixes like Jr. and Sr., titles, honorifics, and other such things. _____________________

. . . so I got frustrated and hit a bunch of letters on the keyboard and a prt of the sequence was Rhaorth... Rhaorth, All this time I thought it was some ancient Welsh or Brittanic name. Ray, Thank you for introducing us to your uncle. I actually thought Figtree sounds very British too in a Dickens kind of way. My name is nothing arcane. Weston was a character (who was really me of course) in some awful fiction writing I attempted when in the grip of teenaged angst. Graves was not intended as anything morbid, but was the shortest and easiest to spell on the list at the time. The shorter name Oh was still around I think, but I was afraid it would be confused with dialog, and I was right. I still sometimes get momentarily annoyed with people who I think have a bad habit of starting all their chat with "Oh --" |

This is a fun thread; it's been interesting to read about everyone's names!
I picked my name with my brother looking over my shoulder as he spurred me to sign on to SL. Not sure what I would have picked had he not been there - probably something closer to my alt's name. My brother encouraged me to pick something with an Indian sound, because I love Indian movies. So I chose Madhu for my first name; it's a common Indian name (sometimes used for women and sometimes for men, varying regionally) meaning "honey" and is also short for the names of two of my favorite Indian movie stars, Madhubala and Madhuri Dixit. For my surname, I wanted to select an Indian name to go with Madhu, and while there were several available, Maruti jumped out among them, I suppose because I liked the consonance of it. My alt's name is based upon the name of a main character in a novel I have been not really writing for many years. As I said, without my brother suggesting that I pick an Indian name, I probably would have gone this route for my main's name. But I like being Madhu Maruti. ![]() _____________________

Great thread!
Picked my first name because it's an Irish name I always loved. Nover gave pronunciation a single moment's thought, because I didn't know voice was an option in SL Hehe...the first time I was at a club, and the poor DJ was calling out (in voice) people's names...and he got to mine..."um...See-oh-ban?" (It's shi-vawn or shi-vahn.) And I picked my last name, Noyes, because it's the name of the street I lived on with my best RL friend, who introduced me to SL. We used to refer to it as the "street of indecision"... |

1) Start with the 1st 3 letters of your last name
2) Add the first two letters of your first name 3) Add the first two letters of your mother's maiden name 4) Add the first two letters of the city in which you were born 5) Then you are allowed to remove one letter to make it sound cool. I removed two letters in order to sound cool ![]() Neva, I chose because it was a river and I wanted something natural sounding. _____________________

I picked Kyomoon because it has "moon" in it which I thought was vaguely romantic. Then I went to a find-a-name-for-your-baby site and started with the k's, for the sake of alliteration I guess. One of the first ones I saw was Kaimi which I thought sounded nice and it's supposed to be a Hawaiian name meaning "seeker" which is perfect. Only later did I realize that everyone was pronouncing differently than I was. I pronounce it Kaw-EE-me.

A very long time ago in a bohemian event in London, I was backstage at the fashion show. HBO were filming the stage, out front, and all the models were in properly tight rubber dresses. In fact, one was too tight: when latex lets go, it REALLY goes - self-ripping, almost.
With about 2 minutes to go to on-stage, I bodged a repair with gaffer tape. Designer's mojo and model's tush both preserved (so long as she didn't move too far away from the drag queen behind her). When the designer saw what I had done, he threw this huge camp number about "ooh, der Gummi Doktor" (yes it's confusing; he's english, so am I, but he was in a german state of mind that night - I dunno) - so when I went online and these strange things called forums and online chat and the like all wanted a nickname, I thought I'd use one which had actually been planted on me without me thinking about it, instead of going to the lengths of working one out on my own. So Doktor Gummi I am, in various places - Except blooooody SL, where I had to decide between Doktor Richthofen, or Gummi Richthofen, while time was short. So Gummi Richthofen it is. Yes, I'd love to be able to use the "proper name" I have, but even when SL have been close to it in the surname fields, I've run out of alts and for some reason they don't like "Doktor" as a first name. No, I don't understand it either... |
