I know some tiny robot vegetables that like jazz. Maybe they'll check out Cheetah's some time. Finding a place with GOOD jazz has not been as easy as I, er, they thought it would.

See Trout Knucklehead? you see to be imune to Cupid's wonderful little arrows!

Sorry Ann, I tried!

Not immune. You'd be surprised.

It is nice, however, to be able to come on here and joke around and know that there are a lot of people with similar senses of humor who can play right back and who know that if you take SL with a grain of salt, an open mind and a healthy dose of humor, that you will enjoy your experience a lot more.

OK- Come as you are/were/wish party!!!!

I volunteer Terminus for a gathering spot but grant that there isn't much in the way of lavish entertainment - pool for swimmers, air for fliers and plenty of good company we will provide our selves :D

Veggies welcome :)

No matter, as I've taken lately to wandering around in tiny dino form and biting people's ankles. *rarr!*

I am liking being a tiny dino I must say. I may change to that full time. hehe

Not trying to belittle the post but I really don't see this as a big deal. There's a million other places to go in SL. I can see their point, they're creating a certain standard, ambience. But even if its kinda lousy, well just move on I think. This is SL, not RL. Different standards err or sometimes no standard at all. That's the deal pretty much to me. Unfortunately furries, demonesses or blue people are not welcome everywhere. I think it's cool to have these interesting avi's running around, part of what makes SL so wonderful, and just another part of the difference of SL from RL.

That's pretty much how I'd put it too and remind people, as already mentioned, that people can state who they do and don't want on their property.

If nothing else the OP has created some publicity for Franks Place! (whether he wanted it or not!)

He's a she- me :) - and I don't care about the publicity - let them enjoy it - I am glad for the publicity for Cheetah's more - since now at least the fur folk that read here will know where to go. I know Shiraz, where I hang out mostly, is also free of any kind of stereotyping and only ask people to come in dressed - the other night there we dancing bananas- go figure!

And I do absolutely agree with people's rights to have who they want and to bar who they do not - I personally prefer freer environments and will see to it that that is where I roam.

Of course, being a furry is a choice, and furries can just as easily take on a human form if they want to go somewhere that furries are not welcome. But in SL, everything is a choice, isn't it? What if some dance club put up a sign that said, "Caucasian Avatars Only". We would flip out. The place would be vilified. But skin color, while not a choice in RL, is completely a choice in SL. I can be African, Asian, Caicasian, blue, green, or whatever. I'm not saying that discrimination against furries is the same thing, exactly, because the history of discrimination against non-caucasian races is a significant real world issue and there are no furries in real life. Saying "No Furries" doesn't strike me as being as despicable as "Whites Only".

My point is that EVERYTHING about how we look is a choice. So does discrimination exist at all? Where do we draw the line? When it includes real life racial hatred? That seems like a good place, but how do we define RL hatred in SL? ...
Right, this is quite a puzzle. The case of furries is interesting because, by their very nature, they create a category confusion, which is only amplified in SL. What I mean is, RL furries (oh, they do exist, Trout--see, e.g., FURCON) intentionally blur the line between human and non-human: they want to "be like" a non-human, but in fact are human and have reason to expect to be treated as human. So at least in principle, they can work in the kitchens of fast food restaurants  where real non-human forms usually, thankfully, are not welcome.

In SL, the "humanness" is another step removed: there's a human at the keyboard against whom one would not discriminate, but that human has chosen to be represented by a non-human form. How "human" do they even want to be treated? Is it an offense to scratch behind the ears? Presumably that's okay. But it would probably cross the line to sick the hounds on them, gut them, tie them to a spit, and serve them medium-rare with garnish as a main course.

So, most everywhere in SL just ignores the avatar form altogether, treating it as a mere icon much as the "avatars" on this forum. But one can imagine reasons for being more "discriminating" (if not exactly discriminatory)--perhaps where the RP scenario is particularly tenuous in the first place. Take for example that planet on the other side of the sun, ruled over by an unseen mountain colony of golden insects; really, they kinda need all the help they can get to keep in-character, working with that script. ;)

heres an observation: Did ANYONE bother to ask Frank(owner?) WHY? or will this be another im offended remove it from my sight thread?

again, as it has already been posted, their sim, their rules. don't like it, move on.
seen to many threads like this, and well, its gettin old. there is way too much to see in SL to worry about this.

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

For RL furries, it's still a choice. They want to be seen a certain way, but really, they could take off their gear and put on more normal clothing and nobody would look at them twice. The human behind the keyboard in RL has the ability to be represented by any number of different avatars. From humans of all races and colors to furries, to tinies, children, quadropeds, and my favorite, a steam-powered, gear-driven spider. One of my best friends on Sl is a raven sometimes. I'm a skeleton bird when the mood strikes me. We have the ability to conform to whatever dress code a sim owner wants, and that includes restrictions on race, religion, national origin, and any number of other things that we would find to be despicable.

Like Madhu said, I think there's a difference between blue people/furries/robots being discriminated against and people with ethnic skins being discriminated against, but that's because of my feelings about those practices in RL. If you refuse to let someone shop in your store because of the color of their skin in RL, you're a scumbag. If you refuse to let someone dressed as a furry shop in your store because it weirds out your other customers, then you're just doing what you have to do to run your business IMHO. That doesn't necessarily carry over to SL, though.

I think this is a bad move by the club. It's within the TOS and it's their right, but I don't think I'll be going there anymore. It's my right to go to Danielle's place instead, or any number of other jazz clubs. formal dance places, etc.

I'll agree with ya Trout. One of the hottest gay clubs in SL doesn't allow furries and only allows trans and women once a week. I use to go there regularly but decided that even though it's their right, that I can no longer be a part of it. One thing I love about SL is that most people are so open and not only tolerate, but enjoy meeting different types of people. Why would I want to be with the few who bring close minded attitudes to SL with them?

Move on and find a better place to go.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Whenever I see a sign that says "No Furries", I have to fight the impulse to ditch my human av and go in as a Dalek.

OK, sometimes I don't fight it.

One of my best friends on Sl is a raven sometimes.

I often run around (actually fly) as a Crow which is often mistaken for a Raven. I would just like to point out that I am NOT nor have I ever been one of Trout's best friends. There once was a guy following me all day in his plane (was that you?), but I was eventually able to lose him.

I would be terribly sad if it became the norm for sims or stores/clubs to become avatar specific. Some enjoy shoes in all there shapes and colours, I enjoy avatars. I can't seem to pass one by without purchasing it or putting it on my wish list. Where else but in SL can I do this? I tried going to work as a Tiny, but got lost in the Metro. People wouldn't move out of the way when my station pulled up.

Really, please make everyone feel welcome to your places in SL. I understand 'Theme' looks and follow the guidelines, but I would leave SL if it became the norm..

Wasn't me following you and I was talking about someone else, but ouch! Did you have to be so emphatic about not being my friend? That stung a little.

I agree with everything else you wrote there.

I'm sorry. Please forgive me.
Sometimes when I'm trying to be funny, it comes out really UN-funny. Okay, who am I kidding. I'm hardly ever funny when I think I am. People sometimes laugh, but it's usually when I'm trying to be serious. Or while they're pointing at me.

It would of course be an honour if you ever thought of me as a friend. :o
