I've only been here 11 days so I take what I can get my hand on, but I do also cut down on duals and other things. Now I would be more effective if my suggestion about a Creator Search for the items in the inventory are added into SL.

I have 14k+ stuff. But that's because I'm new. I'm sure it will shrink eventually once I get rid of the "Free" boxes with 1000 of stuff.

I think you've just set a record for Biggest Newbie Inventory.
This weekend, you'd better spend your time weeding through that mess and get it pared down and organized.

It's not going to get any better on its own, you know. Inventory management (in some cases, inventory triage) is the SL equivalent of brushing your teeth, or housework. Got to do a little bit every day.

I've already started. And I'm going to camp for a hair pack that demands 850 minutes so I have plenty of time to do so. About 750 of the items are hairs from Calla.

Let's see, assuming the 2L/10 minutes I usually see, that means 170L. You're spending 14+ hours to earn $.67? Even if you found a better paying one, say 5L/10 minutes, that's still only $1.59.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Um, does anyone spot the little logical fallacy here? You've got 750 hairs from Calla (that's got to be over 50% of her inventory!) and yet you are going to camp to get MORE Calla hair?

Anyway, camping for the big hair packs isn't such a hot idea, because
1. You're probably going to crash before you hit the 850 minute mark, and
2. You're probably going to want to stand up to try on some of that stuff, which'll reset your camping chair, or
3. Something, like sleep, will call you AFK for more than 30 minutes and SL will log you out.

Zedja, I'm going to recommend a new group for you to join...Second Life Shoppers Anonymous. It's a friendly, easy, 12 step program to address your acquisition addiction... :D

Egad, a vision!
A huge pile of prim packages makes its way to the podium. A muffled voice emerges from the pile, "Hi, I'm Zedja, and I'm an SL shopaholic."
Chorus of (mostly) female voices: "Hi, Zedja!"

True, and I think that Zedja's camping plan is ill-advised, but for other reasons.

Calla's actually pays campers in two ways...free hair, if you stay the course, plus they've got a trivia game that'll probably earn you a bit more than the usual camping rates, if you're at all good.

Besides, she's not in it for the money, she's in it for the chance to sort that 11,000+ item inventory...or so she says.

Poor new kid! I thot the camping comment was kinda cute!

Come by the Forum Hangout if you get tired of the view from your camp chair, hon! Take a jetski out, sit by the fire, or just hang out, dance and listen to the crazies.

I explained that above. You use llSetTexture and pass the texture's key, which you've kept in a text file on your PC for a month, hidden away in an encrypted data file, so LL can't possibly know it's there. ;)

What will happen is in about a month that UUID will no longer work with the LLSetTexture. This is a know issue when you create the books/photo albums.

As long as you put that texture in a storage prim and tuck it away somewhere, it will exist. If all 'physical' copies of it are deleted, then it is deleted from the database in about a month, plus or minus a random time.. :)

I'd love to see accounts that have been inactive for a given period, say 6 months purged...

As someone who went inactive for over 2 years before returning to SL, I would have hated to see my inventory purged when I came back.

Perhaps they should be stored offline then requested?
Then again, my WoW & COH characters never come back if I go offline for 2 years either. And my previous ISP probably won't have my emails and webpage if I went back to them............

The pack is worth 2000 Linden. That's more than I've gotten all together since I joined.

But if you don't like me camping, then you can always support me with Lindens ;)

I've already sorted a lot of the things I have and deleted copies. But I have a lot of free boxes to look through..

With only 129 Linden on my account at present shopping isn't really the word. More like bargain hunting.

And Callas camp is good for a third thing. Talking with fellow campers.

Kind of related: Is there a way to delete items you own without picking them up? I pick up things that I would have just deleted if I could.

There used to be a delete on the pie menu for objects in-world but it was changed for the safer 'return'. Therefore the only delete is from within inventory.

If it's something you own? Right click, More, Delete. That puts the object into your inventory trash, then next time you empty the trash it's gone forever.

Seems to me that I've tried that and there was no "delete" option. I'll have to have another look when I can log in. Thanks. :)

*points Zedja at ETD's discount room* Several all color packs for only 1L each. Several other packs for around 5L.

Im not sure how the convo has gotten so turned around. If you remove something from your inventory that's fine, you have helped your inventory, not a asset server. If there happens to be at least one more item in the world its still in the asset servers. Every single item with a specific UUID would have to be deleted and purged to have it removed from the asset servers. Cleaning your personal inventory does help SL run a bit smoother for you, but saving SL? SL doesnt create multiple instances of a item, there's only one out there, it just shows up as duplicates in your inventory.

Click edit on the item. Press delete on the keyboard.

I believe deleting an object from your inventory also frees space on an asset server in a record that is not associated with your inventory. Where else would instance-specific information be stored (e.g., script state)?

Not that it really matters. Delete unused stuff from your inventory -- it helps.

No need to be on a asset server, you request the info from a asset server, it doesnt save who has accessed the item.

I just find the whole concept "Save SL" quite funny, that reducing your inventory will be the saviour :)

Again, if our bloated inventories cause any problem at all with any performance metric on the grid, it is NOT in any way related to database capacity or filesystem capacity. As Ian noted a year or so ago in an interview, "I can add database capacity in my underwear."

There can really only be one issue, and this is a subject of much debate as to whether it's an issue at all - opening your inventory folder causes SQL queries to execute against the database in order to populate your folders. This can induce load on the MySQL server clusters, as well as additional network traffic, if enough people, with sufficiently large inventories, are opening them simultaneously. Whether this load is detrimental to the grid, ever, can only be answered by a Linden who pays attention to such things.

By the way, script state - stack and variables - is stored along with the bytecode, not in a database row. It's not a conventional asset like the script's source code would be.
