From: Vampiric Lemon they did resolve it out another way.
so this is quite the tempest in a teapot.
look. again, LL isnt my fave company EITHER. not by a LONG shot. i'm just puzzled that people are overreacting so much.
i've also always thought that if you get perma banned, you should get a pro rated tier refund and chance to sale your land and pull your money out of SL. i do think that LL goes too far sometimes, but this is not such a case.
the level of drama surrounding this incident is not proportionate to the wrist slap she got. We're just following LL's lead. They overreacted, so we overreacted. Now you can overreact to our overreaction, to which we will overreact in turn This Metaverse thingy is fun!

Let me know when we reach a level 5 over reaction. I can blog about it, post it here and the circle can begin once again!

From: Chris Norse The words of a coward have no value. Rha, you know me. I will always say what I think to anyone. I will take unpopular positions and stand by them. I don't hide behind an alt to do it. I think you are the same way. While I don't always agree with you, I do respect you. But I cannot and will not respect a coward or anything they have to say. I too will not use an alt to post (and in the couple times I have, I have said it was me, because I forgot to log the alt out) however I do not judge the words based on who says them, I see the words for what they say. and to Brenda yes I have deleted posts, just as many other folks on the forums have, does that make me a bad person? nope, just makes me realize what I said needed to be removed as it was not something that needed to remain. I do not see you finding other folks who have deleted their posts and saying what they say doesn't matter, because they will just delete it later your comment was low... thanks Brenda One thing I can say about this thread, I am seeing a lot of folks in a different light... and it is not a flattering one

I noticed folks are making comments about how this is the same as someone doing CS on the phone for a RL company etc
there is a big difference
on the phone, it is one person, one customer service rep one irate customer
in sarah's case it was a group chat with a lot of folks... who knows who was listening in and not saying anything (ie reading but not typing)
So in this case it is not just the company or one employee, but a whole list of customers that had to see it too...
try going into your local phone company office or something and telling the staff FU phone company, especially when there are other customers there, listening to your conversation... see how well that goes.

Vamp, I'm pretty sure we'll have to agree to disagree about whether the suspension was warranted. I'll never think it was, and you'll never believe otherwise. You are right about the proportionality (is that a word?) of the response to this incident. Though, I do notice you're still hanging with the subject pretty hot and heavy yourself...oh man of many, many posts to this thread...so it must have some juice. Every time something like this happens there will be a disproportionate response. At least until LL really gets it together on the customer service front. As it stands, right now most residents are in a perpetual state of pre-boil over. All it takes is an incident like this to tick up the heat a bit and the lid comes off the kettle. I'll restate though, it is utterly ridiculous to suspend someone for...saying a swear. It was an arbitrary knee-jerk reaction by someone with far too high an opinion of themselves to deal with customers in rational, respectful and patient manner. Bench 'em.

You aren't a bad person Rha. I know becuase I am. And you're never at the meetings. But proudly proclaiming you stand by what you say , and that you have the fortitude to say it....then trying to erase it when there is some heat from it, is a bit disingenuous. You can apologize for things you say, but you can't take them back once they've been said. Just as I will apologize for an admitted cheap shot towards you, it will remain out there to be seen by those who follow us for eons to come.

If I do, you can bet they aren't going to suspend my phone service for 3 days in response. And I think every person on the board has seen someone act up in such a setting. At most the person is escorted from the premises. Usually they're simply asked to tune it down.

From: reeneebob Birmingham The only reason my work came into it is that someone mentioned no one has the right to swear at a CS rep for a company, and if they do so getting banned/suspended is reasonable and happens all the time. I have worked customer service since I was 13. I am now 33. At no time, anytime, have I been permitted to ban a customer from a store/cancel their service/suspend their service short of them threatening me with death. In fact if I had said anything in my defence, I would be written up. It's as true with my current IT job (which happens to relate closest to SL) as with my high school retail job. In fact, when taking sup calls, I am not allowed to hang up or retaliate in any way or I face disciplinary action.
If someone who works for LL can't handle a FU LL they need a new line of work.
LL over reacted. It has nothing to do with it being Sarah, I would feel that way if it was anyone else. FU is not the worst thing that can be said, far from it. Hell, I wasn't allowed to react to a customer telling me they hoped a technician died and that he had children who had a horrible christmas because of it last week...and that is far, far worse than FU.
Some people in this thread seem to lose sight of that because they are blinded by their own self righteousness.
I don't think Sarah owes LL a single thing, in fact it's LL who owes her an apology. your experience is not the norm. i too have been in CS most my adult life and i can supply an opposite anecdote to each of yours. so what? anecdotes dont mean much. and why do we think that its ok to swear at people on the phone? people really love to get all badazz on the phone, but i bet that same person wouldnt do it in a restaurant. anyway, even if ALL companies allowed it, it still doesnt make it right for them to swear at you. you said yourself you don't like it. i used to work in restaurants. we had a bar. we had to throw people out for cussing at us. the horror. you're splitting hairs, hiding behind telephone/ text chat here and promoting behavior that is not ok in most other venues. just because your companies let people get away with it doesn't mean the whole world should sanction it. unless thats the kind of world you think is desirable.

From: Sarah Nerd One f word should not be an issue at all in 18+ game of adults. If it is really that offensive to you then honestly you have no business being in Second Life. It's unfortunate that society labels obscenity as "adult behavior". What it means is that adults are mature enough to deal with it, but some people think it means that's how adults conduct themselves. If you surround yourself with people who think cussing is adult behavior it's going to take you a very long time to grow up.

I have not removed everything I have ever put in, and there are some comments I would take back, but feel it is best to leave them, then there are comments that are basically useless garbage that I remove (and at times I say things in the heat of the moment, that I regret and remove, as my intention is not to hurt anyone, and sometimes words said in moments of anger or hurt, end up hurting others) just because I remove the words, doesn't mean I do not stand by my words, after all, folks see them before they are deleted yes it was a cheap shot, and I am boggled why you felt the need to do it, as I have never done anything to you, heck only ever met you once in world, and I don't think we have spoken directly to one another on forums till now. Apology accepted

If you surround yourself with people who think cussing is adult behavior it's going to take you a very long time to grow up. That's just a matter of opinion. I don't associate adulthood with any set of words. I think a lot of the passive aggressive behavior, and cowardly use of alts is far more childish than the use of a single "fuck".
