The restaurant analogy is apples and oranges. One is a monthly service paid for in advance. The other is an event paid for at the time of consumption.

Let's say I had an account with a catering company who provides a spread for weekly/daily meetings. And while in a conference with other customers their rep is telling me they will be raising my rates by 67 percent. I get pissed, stand up, and say F The Company.


Does that give them the right to, with no warning, not deliver the spread at the next function?

as long as it is paid for, then yes they must deliver

if it is not paid for then they have no reason to deliver


want to go with you analogy... ok so you pay the catering company... you pay them by the month, and they provide by the month
suddenly they tell you that prices will raise (the raise is not immediate)
so,.,, you now have a choice, pay the higher fee to keep this catering company or move on

if you go to their establishment and swear at them because of the raise hike while their customers are around, do they have the right to kick you out, damn right...

and if being kicked out means you can not pick out something for your spread, then you brought it on yourself

in sarah's case they did not take the sims away from her, did not take any of her land away, they just suspended her from entering their store (for 3 days which she got lifted)

thats not what LL is doing as far as i know. being suspended doesnt make you forfeit land or something. they didnt take it away, i.e. they didnt not deliver the spread.

you'd think some of you thought a 3 day suspension was a death sentence and forfeiture of your entire second life.

by definition a catering company delivers...just as LL does, it delivers a service. This service comes to me automatically as long as I'm paid up, unless it is willfully disrupted.

The catering company has my order and I'm on their list as a customer with deliveries to be made at a certain time. If I go to their store and swear at them, that does not absolve them of responsibility to deliver.

The contract between us is a separate thing from my behavior. If I go in to their establishment and say F your company, they may have a right to ask me to leave the premises. What they don't have the right to do is renege on deliver of a service for which I've already paid. Not without dissolving or altering our business arrangement and giving me a refund.

hell i got suspended once for going off on a GM way back in the early UO days. i didn't even use profanity.

when my suspension was up, my house and horse and all my stuff was still there for me.

LL doesn't like land renters/sellers. they are competition. its no surprise to me whatsoever that they raised the price, and i was surprised they were ever as cheap as they are.

*sigh* Like I said Vamp, you and I are never going to agree. But now you're changing the character of my statement. Or else misunderstanding it.

If the catering company chooses to skip delivery one day in recompense for my bad behavior, that would be unacceptable. I'm not talking about stopping service or 'taking my stuff' I'm talking about skipping service. Depriving a person of access to a service for which they've paid, even if for a short time, should not be done in such a knee-jerk and cavalier manner.

Honestly, it's probably a techie-thing. Understanding how to keep customers purring is a different skill set from creating/maintaining the service. LL is still a pretty young company, I imagine their CS support will improve as they get in more people well-trained, experienced and talented in that area.

i doubt we ever get to see what happens to regular people who swear at LL. im sure they do a time out.

but since you have a land biz i guess you think youre more important. and as we see, you got some sort of FIC treatment, after the fact, so i really dont see what all the complaining is about.

you agreed to the same rules as the rest of us and swearing at LL is definitely not allowed and punishable. people have said less than you and been punished harder.

did you REALLY think before all this happened, that if you said "fuck you LL"and got caught, that they would do nothing?

Total crap. People do far worse than say fuck in SL all the time and nothing ever happens. I have a 3 year good track record and get tossed with no warning over a word that several people were saying.

Again could you address my other questions? How is it again that your protecting anyone other than yourself by being a coward?

youre right, we wont agree.

this catering analogy is a different type of agreement than that we all have with LL. we agree to terms, and you can bet your rear that if the catering contract had a provision for verbal abuse, the caterer would be well within their right to suspend service for a period of time as detailed in the contract.

if what you think is so wrong was really so wrong, the courts would be choked with people suing over this sort of thing.
